Boom of railway transportation in Russia
Demand for Russian railways to transport goods from Asia to Europe has risen sharply since the start of the Red Sea crisis. Requests for the transport of goods along the Russian rail corridor from German DHL have increased by about 40% since December 2023, according to the Financial Times. At RailGate Europe demand grew by 25-35%, and the Dutch company Rail Bridge Cargo said that freight turnover through Russia exceeded last year's figure by 31%.
At the same time, a number of European companies, including the German DHL, the Swiss Kuehne & Nagel and the Danish Maersk, claim that they did not transport goods originating from or going to Russia in accordance with sanctions export restrictions.
