You know I have a unique view of life that might shed a little more light on why I believe what I believe. Part of my life (23 plus years) was spent in the quality assurance world of building the SSMEs (Space Shuttle Main Engines). Part of what I had to do was insure that all the machined parts were inspected to the engineering drawings and that any rework of discrepant parts had to pass inspection as well as the NASA review board’s scrutiny. Many of these machined parts had tolerances of +/- .0001 (one ten thousandths of an inch). All of that said from my perspective it took a lot of engineering, and hard, dedicated work by all involved to produce engines that would perform flawlessly (proud to say I was part of a team that NEVER had an engine fail in flight in 30 years of service). What I learned along the way is that it takes an incredible amount of effort and “man hours” to get 7 human beings off this planet for a short time and safely return them to earth. It is a dangerous business as you know, and have witnessed – we lost 14 astronauts along the way – a sad fact of space travel. What we have received in return, in discovery is hard to describe in words. The images from the Hubble telescope (check the website) are nothing short of amazing – we have discovered we are much “smaller” than we once thought because of the discovery of many new galaxies, stars, super novas, etc. These discoveries only strengthen my faith as we build bigger telescopes - we discover how much we didn’t know. In Psalm 19:1 the writer pens this phrase “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” I believe that, I believe the writer had no knowledge of what was up there when he penned that phrase – I believe it was inspired writing. I believe we were “created in God’s image” and we were given brains to reason, understand, and communicate with each other and God. If that makes me “uneducated” or inferior in your mind – that’s your problem. I just happen to also believe if you think we evolved from pollywogs to walk the earth and pilot space shuttles you have a bit more “faith” than I do. By the way I don’t think we know everything about God, or how He operates, or why – it doesn’t stop him from being God. Question: If God doesn’t believe in atheists does that mean THEY DON’T EXIST?
