I had a throwback day in Spokane working with a couple of my favorite ex-Amazon product and UX leaders.
My client Vantage International landed a UX audit for a Lithuanian e-commerce company. We spent the day reviewing the shopping workflow and closed out by ordering a few products for pickup from a local store in Lithuania. It's not every day I get to do that!

The new Verses for Life website is live! Memorize Bible verses from the Topical Memory System, Roman Road, and about Prayer.
The new website features a modern website built using Next.js, React.js, and Tailwind CSS.
On the back-end, I'm using https://scripture.api.bible/ with the Digital Bible Library (for licensing Bible content) with Redis for caching.
The new version includes ESV, KJV, Contemporary English Version, and versions in Deutsch (German), Español (Spanish), Italiano (Italian), हिन्दी (Hindi), and ไทย (Thai) - available from the Settings page.

Swarzy's revamped Verses for Life website received a post-launch traffic jump
Max hourly traffic exceeded previous days in the week by over 5x, and it's still higher.

I got a phone call from Andrew Crapuchettes in December.
He asked, "Are you available? We need your help."
Here we are in February and the RedBalloon website has re-launched with a fresh design, a new homepage, new navigation, and a lot of other revamped features. I've enjoyed jumping in and helping their excellent team get the new launch out the door and off to a good start.
Good timing, too - the site (https://www.redballoon.work) is getting a traffic boost from freedom-loving people who want to find employment from companies who respect their values.
I'm ready for my next project. Do you need code or advice from a Principal Front-End Engineer? Do you have a project you need to get done? Reach out.

The Swarzy website has been revamped with updated information about the services we provide, a showcase of projects for recent clients, and links to apps we've built.

Last week, I launched an updated version of Swarzy.com powered by Next.js and React. Today, I finished optimizing it and the results are in.
PageSpeed Insights: 98 for Performance and 100 for accessbility, best practices, and SEO.
I'm starting to gather RUM (real user metrics) of Web Vitals using a trial version of RUMvision. I'll let you know what I find out.
To get to this speed, I had to do a couple of important things: 1) ditch the third-party JavaScript for my email form and do a direct API integration. 2) Optimize image loading. "next/image" makes big promises, but if used carelessly it can damage your performance.

Okay, Swarzy's fearless leader Calvin Freitas has a website update.
You can take a look:

The biggest revision is the addition of content from our social media feeds. Many of our historical Swarzy posts here have been duplicated to the blog to ensure they aren't lost to the sands of time on social media.
Working on the site was a good reminder of how easy blogs can be to work with, and why people love WordPress (despite being written in PHP, but I digress).

My new Catechism for Life app is coming along. It's my first paid app.
It's live on the Apple App Store now and I'm working on submitting the latest update that includes the basic addition of categories, tags, and verses.
Android coming soon - waiting for the Google Play Store review which always takes longer on the initial submit.
