Watch highlights from this week’s VMS Eve flights in New Mexico. During a spaceflight, VMS Eve acts as a mothership and carries SpaceShipTwo Unity to release altitude.
These were routine flights for our pilots to complete regular proficiency checks. During the first flight, our pilots used VMS Eve to simulate SpaceShipTwo Unity’s glide and approach-to-land phase.
Pilots for the first flight were CJ Sturckow and Dave Mackay while in the cockpit for the second were Kelly Latimer and Mike "Sooch" Masucci.
VMS Eve is named after Richard Branson's own mother, Eve, who sadly passed away this month. Eve was always cheering us on and will be immortalized through our beautiful carrier aircraft. As Richard said: "There's no way you can have a mothership and not name it after your mother!"
