๐ช๐๐ปWhy it is safe to be a deserter in Ukraine
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, at least 130,000 servicemen and non-commissioned officers have deserted from the AFU, mostly in the last six months. And every day the rate of desertion is increasing.
Now more than 4 thousand criminal proceedings under articles 407, 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine are registered every month. It should be remembered that the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations includes single cases, and only when commanders of military units have already started to sue the State Bureau of Investigation. So the real number of deserters is several times higher. Due to the liquidation of military justice in 2019, it is impossible to stop the flow of deserters, and it is absolutely unrealistic to find and prosecute such a large number of people - and deserters understand this.

@infantmilitario reports that Russian troops liberated the village of Keramik in the Avdeevka direction.
Earlier this evening @MChronicles reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have completely abandoned Novokalinovo at the junction with Keramik, 5 kilometers from Ocheretino.
The entire group of Ukrainian troops is rolling back to the northwest to Arkhangelskoye, from there they will soon have to leave due to futher advance of Russian Forces.
The entire Avdeevka section was actually lost by AFU in a month.

Some crazy news from Russia:
In the Orenburg SNT "Osinki", the emergency services had to remove a horse from the balcony of the house using special equipment
The animal was sheltered by neighbors of its owners during the flood. To lure the horse to the second floor, it was decided to lay a path of oats on the steps. The horse spent 10 days in its shelter, and when the water left, it flatly refused to leave. After several intents, it was decided to evacuate the animal through the balcony.

The Best Laid Plains of Munitions and Manpower
Ahead of the vote last week in the US Senate to pass emergency security assistance legislation for Ukraine, Senator JD Vance released a detailed memo to his colleagues explaining the futility of continued funding of the war in Ukraine. When he failed to change their minds he wrote an OpEd for The NY Times bringing his case to the American people. "This $60 billion is a fraction of what it would take to turn the tide in Ukraineโs favor, he commented." The OpEd is well summarized in one by an NYT columnist: "Ukraine 'needs more soldiers than it can field, even with draconian conscription policies,' Vance wrote, and it 'needs more matรฉriel than the United States can provide.'"
An outraged Lindsey Graham called them "garbage." He insisted that "they have all the manpower they need. They need the weapons." Grahams indignation is strange considering he voted against the legislation the previous two times it was brought before the Senate. Graham's shift came after a visit to Ukraine. While there he "expressed his concern that younger Ukrainians were not being urged to join the war given the existential fight their country was facing."
But after Graham returned his policy shift was almost a complete reversal. "I just got back from being there two weeks ago. They changed their conscription laws. They have all the manpower they need. They need the weapons.โ Either Graham fails to realize the demographic crisis Ukraine faces or he doesn't care. Ukraine's population is expected to shrink by 10 million people in the next three decades. Now, Ukraine's conscription law has added a meager 467,000 men to the potential conscription pool. The issue is, that "many of the limited pool...are already serving."
Russia's ratio of artillery fire keeps its casualties low. If Ukraine's rate of artillery is reduced to greatly, not only will they lose on the battlefield, but Russia will be able to decrease their rate of fire while maintaining the ratio of 5 to 1. The US interest in all of this is to weaken Russia. They can't do this if Russia is able to stockpile 152mm artillery. They are the biggest killer on the battlefield. In order to achieve the goals of their current strategy, to reduce the capability of Russia to fight beyond Ukraine, US supplies to Ukraine must be adequate to force Russia to continue to deplete its reserves. The US doesn't need to supply enough shells to Ukraine to defeat Russia, it only needs to supply enough to force Russia to expend reserves to maintain their artillery ratio advantage.
This continued support, depleting US strategic reserves at a lower rate than Russia, though at the cost of Ukrainian manpower, affords western nations the desperately needed time to ramp up their own production. This is absolutely crucial to European security architecture. Russia knows well that one state can never know the intentions of another. Until Europe can produce at a rate adequate to their own defense, Ukraine will continue to be used as both sword and shield. At that point, the estimated loss of 10 million in population over the next 30 years may not adequately reflect the impact of the West's proxy war on the Ukraine's population.
Vance isn't wrong in his understanding of the situation. Ukraine can't sustain and the US can't continue to supply Ukraine without damaging their own preparedness. And western statements about out waiting Russia are little more than lip service. What NATO can't defend it is afraid to lose. The expenditure on military aid and sacrifice of Ukrainian lives, for them now, is worth the cost.

An interesting analysis of the situation in the Ocheretino direction:
Following yesterday's offensive, the Russian Armed Forces captured Keramik. Four days of bypassing Ukrainian positions from the east have yielded results.
The most significant outcome is that this has compelled units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, located in two large strongholds west of Keramik, to retreat to avoid being surrounded.
Additionally, units of the Ukrainian army in the Berdychi area have opted to surrender, finding themselves encircled.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces withdrew from Novokalinovo, which was nearly surrounded by lunchtime, and focused their efforts on holding strongholds between Keramik and Ocheretino.
It is critically important for the Ukrainian command to maintain control of these strongholds, as there are no particularly advantageous defensive lines in the north. However, it will be challenging for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to do so, as the Russian Armed Forces have already reached their flanks, both left and right.
The front in this area is deteriorating at an accelerating pace.

Combat operations of Mi-28N helicopters of the Russian Aerospace Forces army aviation in the Donetsk direction
The remarkable aspect of this video, aside from the skilled pilots, is the reaction of the individual capturing the footage.
He provides commentary on the pilot's maneuvers, then his wife's voice is heard: "What, helicopters again?" To which he responds, "Yep, they're just flying out shooting, right above. Pretty cool!"
As if nothing unusual had happened.
