According to OVD-Info, at least 364 people detained at protests against mobilization have been arrested by this minute. Of these, 96 are in St Petersburg, 89 in Moscow, and 45 in Yekaterinburg.
Good. Now, instead of jail, send them to the front lines. There are a couple of spots I can remember.

Biden at UNGA today:
“I reject the use of violence and war to conquer nations or expand borders through bloodshed. To stand against global politics of fear and coercion. To defend the sovereign rights of smaller nations as equal to those of larger ones.”
I listened to this very carefully, twice, and wrote it down verbatim. Not sure what it means.

Lavrov: With its actions to nurture a Russophobic neo-Nazi regime in Ukraine, military development, and turning its territory into a bridgehead to deter Russia, the West has left us no choice but to conduct a special military operation. Its objectives are known: to protect the population of Donbass, to eliminate threats to Russia's security, and to demilitarise and denationalize Ukraine. All of them remain relevant and will be fulfilled, no matter how long it takes.

An army fights best when it knows that just beyond the hill reinforcements are on the way—reinforcements that will look to those at the front line to hold it and push forward as the new soldiers enter the fray.
The announcement of partial mobilization—whether it could or should have been done earlier is immaterial now—came at the exact right time for the Russian army facing a nearly-exhausted offensive by the best that the Ukraine could muster.
As the Ukrainian assault is now petering out—Belogorovka is the furthest they came and could have come east, and the Ukrainian defensive lines near Krasny Liman have reportedly been breached by the Russian units—the Russian forces, reinvigorated, with morale on the upswing, can now begin the inevitable push back.
Further analysis from me will follow, but it is my considered opinion that the break in the Ukrainian assault that began at the end of August was already looming, and the change in the tide has only been reinforced by the timely acknowledgement from the Kremlin that Russia has finally turned to face her foes and untied her right hand for a swing of the sword.

GB: This is my personal opinion, and not necessarily that of anyone else or of @Slavyangrad. Deal with it.
If Aiden Aislin was released, it was only so that those captured by the Nazi Ukrainian regime could come home. I welcome it, and I have no doubt that Aislin will fade into ignominy in his own merry way. Russia need not help him in this endeavour.
PS. I have never been an advocate of capital punishment—it solves nothing and only feeds the thirst for blood in the population at large. Other ways to punish criminals exist, and sometimes those who have done wrong can be used to accomplish something right.

Russian patience runs out. Only with that, I can summarize what has happened in the last few days. We tried to negotiate with Ukraine, to no avail. Instead of talking, they become courageous, with the help of gasoline from the West. So, relatively calmer options fell off. What do we have now? Russia means business, and when I said that, I mean it. First, let's call SMO by its real name. War. Till now, it was more like a reality show and pretending to be nice and all that...After this morning's speech by President Putin, cards are on the table. Not all, that is true. But plenty of them. We know that the significant air force is relocated near Ukraine. We know that Russia changed doctrine and is now hitting infrastructure objects of vital importance to Ukraine. It's safe to say that such a trend will continue. TPPs, HPPs, comm relays, important road junctions, storages with strategic materials...In defense, one of the reasons why are they still not hit was, to play nice, but more importantly, you would need lots of money to rebuild them. Now, when we are in a war, priorities are changing. We need to paralyze the enemy, to make his even most basic necessities torment to obtaining them. Normal life as they know it will have to be changed from the roots. No more dancing crowds in Kiev. No more Internet access. No more water and heating. They didn't see war, like the one they cause in Donbas. It's time they feel it in all its power. Our next move should be to Europe. Closing the valves for oil/gas. We don't have friends in the West anymore (question is, did we ever have them). We don't need to feel sympathy or think badly about such a move. They sided with our enemy and they don't deserve our pity. They want us destroyed. Instead, we will throw their industry on its knees, and everyday life will become unbearable for the majority...Their production, heating, electricity...even underwear will be expensive and/or out of reach. And European people shouldn't blame Russia, but their own elites for that. We, we will have to endure, because we don't have another choice. Someone will break, but that's not going to be Russia.

Regarding Aiden Aislin's "supposed" release, I do not think as Gleb. I'm maybe of a traditional upbringing but a death sentence is deserved in his case. What he didn't deserve was a firing squad. That's a somewhat honorable way to go. He should have been executed on sight and thrown in some landfill where he truly belongs, together with his buddies mercs and Azov nazis. That's the faith that worldwide scum deserves. Always was, is, and will always be. Why show mercy towards those who didn't show not an inch of humanity? So we can pat ourselves on the back and tell how are we morally superior? That we are better? Are we truly comparing ourselves with Aislins of this world? I think that we are not in the same category, and hence, comparing is absurd. I think that we will do service to the world by killing them immediately. This way, we only acknowledge that we think that they are humans, which they are not. Ask people of Mariupol. Also, I believe that all members of the propaganda machinery of NATO and Ukraine deserve the same faith. What they did, and doing as we speak, is beyond contempt. People who justify the killing of civilians, manipulating the fact causing more innocent ones to be killed, will never get mercy from me. I hope, that we will see their faces one day. Preferably on some landfill.

Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, ex-Commander of US Forces in Europe: "If Russia uses nuclear weapons in Ukraine, the US will respond with a "crushing strike" against Russian military bases or the Black Sea Fleet.
Another direct threat and the words "ex" should not mislead anyone. We know that there are no exes. And we know how hawks in the military leadership of the United States and the entire NATO bloc feel about Russia.
We must conclude. If Russia is attacked, it could retaliate with a full range of weapons, including nuclear weapons. And that is exactly what Putin said today.
After all, no one has canceled the "dead hand" principle, and military and civilian facilities in the US will be hit with a high probability.

Fantastic analysis.
"Russia has declared a mobilization. What next?"
That's the title of today's Politico piece. The tone of the piece is enthusiastically pro-Ukrainian, but let's acquaint our readers with Western fantasies.
Russia's mobilization is said to have been announced by Putin because "Russia is losing the war in Ukraine". Allegedly, Russia has underestimated the fighting spirit of Ukrainian troops, the power of Western weapons, and the capabilities of its army. Therefore, Russia is forced to mobilize additional forces, otherwise, it will "lose the war".
Partial mobilization is compared by Western propagandists in the best tradition to Stalin's formula "quantity is more important than quality". When hints of mobilization appeared in the media, the price of air tickets from Russia increased tenfold, the authors of the article claim. After all, no one in the Russian Federation wants to fight for the regime!
The authors skilfully pick up on many theses put forward by Russian skeptics - about poor management, supply, and training problems - claiming that Russian mobilization will fail and that "a stream of coffins like those from Afghanistan" will be a factor in Russia's internal destabilization.
Vladimir Putin's statement about the use of any means to defend Russia's sovereignty was considered correct in the West: only still crying out for "nuclear blackmail". That the recognition of the results of the referendums will allow application for protection of the new Russian territories, the authors of the article have no doubts. However, for some reason, they believe that one of the options of using nuclear weapons is a strike on some Ukrainian cities "for intimidation", in a separate paragraph they emphasize that the US has warned about "serious consequences" in case of a nuclear strike by the Russian Federation.
The authors of the publication consider the freezing of the conflict and the transformation of Russia into one big North Korea to be a serious alternative to achieving the goals of SMO. Russia, they argue, could simply wait for Europe to lift sanctions and slowly weaken Ukraine - a scenario beneficial primarily to the US. However, it is immediately noted that Ukraine will not want to end the conflict on the wave of success, and will only agree to a ceasefire after the withdrawal of Russian troops from its territory.
The worst thing for Putin, the Western propagandists conclude, is the prospect of a tribunal and punishment for "crimes", so he is ready even for a nuclear escalation - sums up Politico.
Such materials indicate one thing: a serious approach to the Ukrainian problem is feared in the West. We will soon see what their warnings and "consequences" are worth. The SMO's objectives, however, will be fulfilled.
