Zelensky Admits Counteroffensive Defeat, Hints Mobilisation; Shoigu Ukr Lost 125K Troops 6 months

American journalist Hersh claims, citing anonymous US officials, that Russia and Ukraine are allegedly conducting secret peace negotiations along the Gerasimov-Zaluzhny line, despite the objections of Zelensky and the White House.
In an article on the Substack platform, Hersh wrote that the issue of possible fixation of borders along the current front line with the retention of Crimea and the liberated territories of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions for the Russian Federation is allegedly being discussed; in exchange, an option is being considered in which Kiev could join NATO, but with a commitment that the alliance will not station troops or offensive weapons there.
“The American official said that Zelensky was made to understand that it was not him, but “the military that would solve this problem, and negotiations would continue with or without you.” “If necessary, we will pay for your trip to the Caribbean,” the American official told me,” wrote Hersh.

🔴 In a statement by John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications at the National Security Council at the White House: The United States does not support a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, but it wants to extend the “humanitarian truce.”
While Washington calls for an extension of the alleged “ humanitarian truce,” it supplies Israel with bunker-busting bombs, each weighing 2,000 pounds, or approximately 1,000 kilograms, in order to tear the bodies of Gaza’s children into pieces, under the justification of “ Israel’s right to defend itself.”

Ukraine Faces a "Christmas Carol" Scenario
Ukraine's supporting myth of the Ghost of Kiev during the early war has long since given way to the stark reality of the Ghost of Bakhmut.
This spirit looms large this Christmas season as Ukrainian soldiers go on the defensive. Ask, what kind of defense can these men hope to mount this winter? 9 months ago, Russia's campaign in and around Bakhmut resulted in an average lifespan for frontline soldier of just 4 hours.
This ghost has sat with them. Can the specter of defeat change Ukraine's path towards annihilation?
In Ukraine, an alternative ending is being written for the Dicken's classic novel. Tiny Tim will not make it, his parent’s will be destitute, and the feiry pits of hell are all that await Scrooge on Christmas morning.

Ukrainian channel Strana:
The head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, held a meeting at Boryspil airport with representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Ukraine.
At the meeting, Ermak said that Boryspil airport will be the first in Ukraine to be opened to aircraft. He didn't say when exactly this would happen, but made it clear that it could happen soon.
“I’m sure: the symbolic boarding passes you received at the entrance will soon become real,” Yermak said.
Previously, Ukrainian aviation authorities said that the country's airspace was unlikely to be open until the end of the war.
The topic of Ermak’s meeting with the ambassadors in Boryspil was the implementation of the Ukrainian “peace formula”.

Europe’s muddled armed forces ‘could be washed away by Russia’
British Paper The Times writes:
Europe is not prepared for a war with Russia and is in danger of being “washed away” in a conflict, much as the Holy Roman Empire was broken up by Napoleon, Germany’s pre-eminent military historian has warned.
At a high-level defence conference in Berlin, several German generals also suggested that Nato might be unable to win the “first battle” in a defensive war on its eastern flank, because it would struggle to ship sufficient numbers of troops and equipment to the front line quickly enough.
Sönke Neitzel, professor of military history at Potsdam University and the leading academic authority on the modern German armed forces, described the logistics as a “nightmare” and said it could take at least 15 years before Germany was ready for war.
He pointed out that troop numbers were in decline and fell at least 30,000 short of the 203,000 target strength, while the country needed another 60,000 reservists in addition to the 34,000 it has.
“We need more money. We need more personnel. And there are limits in politics,” Neitzel told the Berlin Security Conference. “We can’t exclude that the Bundeswehr [German armed forces] will have to fight.
“We are going to stand by the coffins at the soldiers’ graves and we are going to be asked: ‘What have you done?’ We will have to explain to the mothers and the fathers why the soldiers could not fulfil their jobs. And at the moment we can only die gallantly if there’s a war.
...
Neitzel said he had visited Nato’s headquarters in Brussels last week and despaired at the way various allied states still had mutually incompatible ammunition. “This always reminds me of the story of the Holy Roman Empire of the German nation, how they had to react to Napoleon and they couldn’t agree on anything,” he said. “And they were washed away. Historical structures can be washed away. That’s the lesson from history.
Brigadier-General Vesa Valtonen, commander of the Finnish army’s Pori Brigade, said the situation in Ukraine bore a troubling resemblance to the final phase of his own country’s winter war against a Soviet invasion in 1939-40. After valiantly holding off a much larger and better-equipped force, the Finns were ground down and forced to sue for peace.
“We lasted alone for 105 days,” said Valtonen. “The last third of the war was looking like Ukraine is now: attrition. Our side didn’t have reserves. The other side has or had them.
“There are 40 million people in Ukraine. How are they going to [keep up] the mobilisation and such? Are we willing to produce enough ammunition so that they can keep on fighting? This is a long-term period. We can’t give up. You can’t win a war of attrition against Russia.”

Кавказская пленница (1967)
Kidnapping, Caucasian Style <- YouTube (eng sub)
I was told by a member to forget Nevsky and write an article on Кавказская пленница. I won’t name names (Owl eyes) but I thought she was some crazy Russian girl—no doubt dancing with brown bears.
She is a crazy Russian girl but she's right, the film is great.
The film starts with protagonist Shurik. Unfortunately he can't get his ass to move. I’m sure this is something many of our readers have struggled with on a dance floor.
Then Natalya Varley enters. My mind immediately went to Jayne Maynesfield in The Girl Can’t Help It walking along a street…ice melts…up the stairs…milk bursts from bottles.
As she passes by, Shurik’s ass gets moving.
The movie features a trio of baddies comparable to the Three Stooges. One of my favorite scenes has them receiving shots. This movie was so much fun.
TL;DR Watch this movie to learn how polar bears make the world go round.

I would like to add: Natalia Varley, the protagonist, apart from one of the most beautiful women that ever roamed the earth, is both a communist and a devout Christian (this might sound strange, but it isn't in Russia). She actively supported Zyuganov, in a time this was dangerous and frowned upon, in the election he won but Yeltsin frauded his way to victory.
She was also banned from entering Ukraine long before it became fashionable to be a patriot in Russia.
One simply cannot overestimate the importance of this film in Russian/Soviet culture. Every single person knows it and the song my colleague alluded to. It is a tradition to broadcast this on tv around New Year, when I saw it for the first time.
