Ukraine meant to overwhelm Russian battalion tactical group (BTG) firepower with multiple massed maneuver assaults hoping it would overload Russian lines, they would break, allowing Ukrainian forces to route Russian forces.
This is based on assumptions drawn by US military analysis in 2017 that Russian BTGs had bad battlefield awareness, difficulties communicating with other BTGs and that these weaknesses could be exploited with bold maneuver warfare.
Obviously much has changed since the 2014 engagements US planners drew these conclusions from. Maneuver warfare against superior firepower with acute situational awareness is highly fatal. The losses reported are about what you'd expect if assumptions regarding BTG capabilities were wrong.

ENERGODAR, September 4. /TASS/. Fragmentations of US-manufactured rockets, used by the Ukrainian military against the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and discovered later at the site, were shown to a mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Head of the Energodar military-civilian administration Alexander Volga told TASS on Sunday.
According to Volga, the IAEA fact-finding mission team, led by Director General Rafael Grossi, was demonstrated a map of the Ukrainian military strikes targeting the area of the Zaporozhye NPP.
"The most important is that we showed him [Grossi] fragmentations, which were discovered at the scene following an explosion," he said. "They match rounds possibly fired by US multiple rocket launchers, rockets manufactured by other Western countries and artillery shells fired by [US-made] M-777 howitzers."
Volga said Grossi was provided with the proof of fired rockets and a map of locations hit by them, including nuclear fuel storages.
"It included an area of the spent nuclear fuel storage, which was shelled repeatedly," Volga stated. "He [Grossi] certainly took a notice of everything clearly understanding that there were also strikes delivered by combat drones targeting the NPP substation."
On Thursday, the IAEA fact-finding mission team visited the Zaporozhye plant to estimate the material damage to the facility and to evaluate the operational capabilities of the nuclear station’s safety and security systems. After inspecting the Zaporozhye NPP, Grossi told reporters the experts had conducted an initial assessment, had seen "the key things" they needed to see, and were planning to stay on.
Meanwhile, Energodar residents, who Grossi talked to before leaving the plant, handed him a petition with over 20,000 signatures, calling for an end to Ukraine’s provocations against the nuclear power plant. They also handed the IAEA chief evidence related to the bombardments of the city by the Ukrainian armed forces, including photos and statements from eyewitnesses.
Energodar, which is the site of the Zaporozhye plant, Europe’s largest nuclear power facility, has been the target of shelling attacks by the Ukrainian military over the past few weeks. When carrying out its strikes against the nuclear power plant, the Kiev regime is using drones, heavy artillery and multiple launch rocket systems. In most cases, the attacks are repelled by Russian air defense systems. However, some rockets hit the NPP’s infrastructural facilities, including nuclear waste storage sites.
On the morning of September 1, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that Ukrainian troops attempted to disembark at 07:00 at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, near the Vodyanoe village. The attempted raid was thwarted by Russia’s Armed Forces, when they sank two self-propelled barges carrying saboteurs that departed from Nikopol.
Also, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, at 06:20 Moscow time, the Kiev regime carried out a landing by two Ukrainian sabotage groups with a total number of up to 60 people on seven speedboats on the coast of the Kakhovka reservoir, three kilometers north-east of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. The Defense Ministry reported that the Ukrainian servicemen were hemmed in by units of the Russian National Guard and the Russian Armed Forces.

As you understand, these are the ammunition of volumetric explosion and caliber such that as in a humorous testament attributed to Taras Shevchenko: "Then take the brushes and give them to the dogs".
No kidding aside, there was noticeably less howling of joy in the networks of the Ukropites (they were forbidden to discuss the army, well, well, well). But already after the first day of the "offensive", Kiev hinted that in one day alone the losses of the Ukrainian armed forces exceeded the number of those killed on the Ilovaysk battlefield in 2014.
And at Ilovaysk, the Ukrainians themselves were also not very good at calculating their losses: the AFU itself underestimated the number of casualties to 300 and a half, figures of 420-450 were flashed on the net, the Ukrainian military prosecutor's office estimated the number of dead and missing at more than 500 (plus the same number of wounded), and the Verkhovna Rada published a figure of its investigation of 1,000 - "200". 🔎 That's normal when they're burnt out and the camouflage or protective coating is gone. You see the same thing with burnt out cars.
High temperature corrosion is the chemical reaction at high temperatures. This is what causes the corrosion during the fire.

⚡️Russian Defence Ministry report on the progress of the special military operation in Ukraine (September 4, 2022)
◽️Kiev regime continues its unsuccessful attempts to consolidate at several areas towards Nikolayev-Krivoy Rog direction. Aviation of Russian Aerospace Forces, missile troops and artillery launch attacks at the units and reserve forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
💥The enemy has lost 11 tanks, 17 infantry combat vehicles, including 4 U.S.-manufactured Bradley vehicles, 10 other combat armoured vehicles, 5 pick-ups with large-calibre machine guns and over 150 servicemen at the abovementioned direction. Fighter aviation of Russian Aerospace Forces have shot down 1 Su-25 assault fighter of Ukrainian Air Force near Romanovka (Nikolayev region).
💥High-precision armament of Russian Aerospace Forces has eliminated provisional bases of the units from 80th Air Assault Brigade and a munitions depot near Kramatorsk (Donetsk People's Republic). Over 120 Ukrainian servicemen and 11 armoured and special motor vehicles have been eliminated.
💥Concentrated fire attacks launched at the positions of the units from 30th mechanised and 95 air assault brigades near Gusarovka (Kharkov region) and Adamovka (Donetsk People's Republic) have resulted in the elimination of 110 militants. AFU command is manning the abovementioned formations with mobilised citizens from western and central regions of Ukraine.
💥 High-precision attack of Russian Aerospace Forces launched at 2 bases of foreign mercenaries near Kurakhovo (Donetsk People's Republic) has resulted in the elimination of up to 50 foreign militants.
◽️ Operational-tactical and army aviation, missile troops and artillery continue launching attacks at the military facilities in Ukraine.
💥 Over the past 24 hours, 4 command posts, including: the headquarters of Kraken nationalist group near Kharkov, 66th Mechanised Brigade near Yelizavetovka (Donetsk People's Republic), 65th Mechanised Brigade near Nikolskoye (Zaporozhye region), as well as 57 artillery units, 189 AFU manpower and military equipment concentration areas have been neutralised.
💥 3 munitions depots near Seversk (Donetsk People's Republic), Nikolskoye and Malinovka (Zaporozhye region) have been destroyed.
💥 Russian air defence means have shot down 5 unmanned aerial vehicles near Balakleya, Pershotravnevoye (Kharkov region), Zvitne Bazhannya, Ivanovka and Zelyony Gai (Donetsk People's Republic).
◽️ 3 U.S.-manufactured HARM anti-radar missiles have been intercepted near Novaya Kakhovka (Kherson region), as well as 7 MRLS projectiles near Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, including 4 HOMARS and 3 Olkha.
📊 In total, 289 airplanes and 151 helicopters, 1,872 unmanned aerial vehicles, 372 air defence missile systems, 4,804 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 824 combat vehicles equipped with multiple rocket-launching systems, 3,367 field artillery cannons and mortars, as well as 5,276 units of special military equipment have been destroyed during the special military operation.
⚠️ Despite the presence of IAEA representatives at Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, Kiev regime continues provocations aimed at posing a threat to create a technological disaster.
❗️On September 3, AFU used 8 unmanned aerial vehicles armed with outboard projectiles for launching attacks at the nuclear power plant.
◽️Russian electronic countermeasures means have blocked the arriving drones and forcibly made them throw grenades to secluded areas at over 1,5 km from the plant's security perimeter.
◽️The radiation environment near Zaporozhye nuclear power plant remains normal.
