The Army is not a place for liberals. You are part of a larger and not at all liberal mechanism. And secondly: the Army is first of all logistics.
Russia's army is a continental army. Russia is connected to its army by land. You can march on land for a very long time without encountering the problems that a British expeditionary corps would encounter. Food, water and so on. It's always been two different armies. But continental armies are different. It's industry and a long war.
