Russia can offer equal participation in economic projects, where the parties will have both a fair distribution of profits and an increase in the level of development of the host country through the import of technologies. And Russia is ready to provide this import to a much greater extent than the West. From time to time, the question arises whether this will not be the cultivation of a competitor to ourselves, but here we can only say that such cooperation should provide opportunities for its own development - so that there is something to offer the same African countries in another 20-30 years .

An interesting moment in Vladimir Putin's speech at the Russia-Africa forum was the initiative to create a transport and logistics center in one of the ports of Africa. Its creation is intended to link the continent with the North-South transport corridor and promote the development of bilateral trade.

There are no specifics on the “entry point” to the continent yet, but one can think about it: it seems logical to place it in a friendly country of Africa, close not only to the Indian Ocean (the exit of the North-South corridor), but also to the most promising markets for continent. Mali, the Central African Republic and other countries that we hear about thanks to the work of our military instructors are not suitable for this role - they have no access to the sea and are not located in the most prosperous part of the continent. Eritrea seems like a good option: friendly (often votes for Russia in the UN), as close as possible to the route, close to densely populated developing countries and Sudan, where our Navy base should appear. Nearby is another trade artery - the Horn of Africa. There is also South Africa - the BRICS country. It is further geographically, but more developed, and the region is calmer, which is important for trade.

The project, however, should be considered in the medium term. The fact is that the North-South, although launched, is still far from realizing its potential. Now only there is a jointing of its bottlenecks. In addition, in the context of Western sanctions, you need to either build up your merchant fleet or find partners in maritime transportation. However, in the future, this route could connect a vast territory from the Russian Baltic to the depths of Africa, equaling the scale of the Chinese One Belt, One Road project. This promises considerable benefits for Russia and its partners.
