❗️ The European Commission has received a new letter from the ministers of the five EU member states on Ukraine's agricultural products.

Earlier, the Polish Agriculture Ministry said that the heads of agricultural agencies of the five EU member states handed over a joint letter to the European Commission, in which they asked it to tighten restrictions on imports of food products from Ukraine.

It was reported that the ministers again urged the European Commission to propose appropriate legally binding mechanisms in view of the increasing influx of agri-food products from Ukraine, as they fear that the decisions that came into force on 2 May 2023 may prove ineffective and insufficient.

What is known about the Ukrainian offensive on the Artyomovsk (Bakhmut) front at this time.

The Ukrainian forces are attacking in multiple directions, on the flanks of the Wagner PMC grouping in Artyomovsk, as follows (north to south):

— Near Soledar, the enemy forces attacked using several units, reinforced with armoured groups of 2-3 tanks, breaking through the first line of defence. The enemy is attempting to entrench itself on the new positions.

— On the northwest edge of Artyomovsk, the enemy is reported to have broken through the first line of defence at Berkhovka and Yagodnoye.

— To the south of Artyomovsk, the enemy is having localized success in an attack near Kleshcheevka.

— In the Gorlovka sector, the enemy is mounting an attack toward Mayorsk, a transitway station on the northwestern edge of Gorlovka.

The Ukrainian army has not been able to solidify its control of any of the contested areas yet, but the situation is difficult, and the battles continue at this time.

The goal of this initial phase of the Ukrainian offensive is still to find the weak spots in the Russian armour. The main event will not begin in earnest until we see:

— a real and sustained artillery barrage against the Russian positions across the entire (or most) of the frontline;
— long-range missile and MLRS strikes at the rear of the Russian groupings, at depots, and command and communications infrastructure;
— the deployment in significant numbers of the stored-up drone arsenal; and,
— massive information warfare fud about Russian troops allegedly leaving positions.

This is still the first stage. Nothing has happened so far that gives cause for immediate concern. Even minor retreats and withdrawals would mean very little. Any such maneuvers will generally have been prepared in advance to lure the Ukrainian forces into artillery fire bags.

For those inclined to panic, I would recommend taking a break from media for a couple of days, then return to watch history happen. Those of hardier constitution are welcome to follow our reports.

Igor Strelkov writes regarding the Ukrainian offensive in the Artyomovsk (Bakhmut) sector:

Poddubny writes about the beginning of a counterattack by the AFU near Bakhmut. At the same time he reports a breakthrough of our positions near Berkhovka and Yagodnoye, as well as the fact that the enemy has displaced our troops near Kleshcheevka.

Even one glance at the map is enough to understand that so far we are talking about local (although successful) counterattacks, aimed at "squeezing the ring" previously tightened by Wagner around the western part of Bakhmut. There can be no talk of any serious offensive - the tasks that the AFU has performed and can continue to perform at the specified sites are purely tactical.

I have no information about the (alleged) "breakthrough of the AFU to Soledar" yet.

[GB: I find the part omitted to be irrelevant noise, in the circumstances. The battle will show who is right and who is wrong.]

I remain confident that if the enemy is going to launch a serious strike at Bakhmut, it will only be a secondary one.

Notwithstanding the reports about enemy movements, all is quiet along the entire front line (from Kherson, to Zaporozhye and Ugledar, to Svatovo-Kremennaya and Kupyansk) other than on the flanks of the Bakhmut grouping of the Russian Army and the substantial shelling of Gorlovka.

The Russian Army must remain both flexible and steadfast here, luring the enemy, but standing its ground beyond the first-second line of defence. The situation remains tense here, but not unmanageable.

The Mayorsk attack by the Ukrainian forces ended up being reconnaissance-in-force by most infantry supported by 4 IFVs, and has been foiled, with enemy reportedly retreating at least in part after the initial minor penetration.

I've already written this once and I'll write it again. Just imagine what would have happened if there had been telegrams, Twitter, social networks during the Second World War? What would happen if soldiers from the front posted photos and videos for 4(!!!) years? Millions and thousands of dead soldiers, people dying of hunger. Or a video from besieged Leningrad where people cooked leather belts to survive? You would turn away from us, of course, you would say that the Russians will definitely lose, it's over, we're going our separate ways. Neither then nor now can we afford to lose and succumb to hysteria and a decadent mood. Learn to read the news without giving in to panic every time, even if something bad happened. There will still be a lot of things that will spoil our mood and upset us. But victory is not forged like that. You can't lose faith.
