Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will pay an official visit to Kiev on 21 February, the Italian publication Il Fatto Quotidiano has reported.

The US presidential administration has urgently demanded that the Ukrainian authorities consolidate their achievements on the frontline and possibly launch their counterstrike, Politico has quoted its sources as saying.

The newspaper stressed that all this was taking place against the background of preparations for Joe Biden's visit to Europe.

It calls that visit "one of the defining moments of the president's presidency.

The White House is also urging Zelensky's team, according to several officials, to prepare for an offensive now, while weapons and aid from Washington and Europe are flowing freely, fearing that support from Ukraine's European neighbors may become limited in the future.

Politico also draws attention to the formulation of the ultimate goals of the offensive. According to the publication, at a closed Zoom conference on Wednesday with outside experts, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the return of Crimea to Ukraine would be a "red line" for Putin. Apparently, America doesn't want to escalate the situation to that point. But, as Politico notes, in the event of a successful Ukrainian counter-offensive, it would be difficult to deter Ukraine from wanting Crimea back.

Earlier, the Washington Post reported that the US was pressuring Ukraine on an offensive. So, this is not the first such signal from the ocean.
