About that killed American..

What we know: On Feb 2, an American volunteer, ex-USMC Pete Reed was killed on in Bakhmut, possibly by an ATGM which struck a white van next to where he and several others were standing.

Western media reports that Reed's nemesis was a Russian Kornet missile. PMC Wagner's Evgeniy Prigozhin made a statement saying this was not possible and provided images to corroborate this.

The explosion was simultaneously caught on 2 cameras, a dashcam and a phone, located in an ambulance across the road. The angle of the CNN-released dashcam video is such that the impact is not fully visible. The phone video (attached) has been released only as a 4-frame GIF, showing what appears to be a Russian Kornet missile as it strikes the van. Another walk-around video shows the aftermath of the event.

The explosion and aftermath suggest the rear end of the van was impacted by a large projectile, which could have been a missile launched from the ground or air, a tank shell, or a shoulder-launched rocket such as an NLAW.

I searched very thoroughly for the original sources of the first 2 videos and there don't appear to be any online. The dashcam video was released on CNN, and the GIF animation highlighting the alleged Kornet missile is in wide circulation.

Until the original source footage of the phone video is released, there will be no way of telling if it does indeed show a Russian Kornet missile, or if the 3 frames were doctored. The GIF frames are very poor quality, and the missile could easily have been photoshopped in. Indeed the original source video of the phone footage remaining hidden is a red flag in my view.

All this successful work in defense would have been impossible without reconnaissance, which found the enemy with copters, aimed artillery at him and recorded the result. Therefore, I repeat, everything that we are now seeing on the Svatovo-Kremennaya front is the essence of a defensive operation of our troops.

Now the crest has withdrawn some of his strength, as he himself is afraid of a blow. Actively fortifies Seversk, Yampol, Krasny Liman, burrows on the heights behind Torsky, Terny, Makiivka, probably waiting for us to hit him. But as I have repeatedly said that the best recipe for a successful defense and offensive is an effective counter-battery. Let's take out the artillery of the Ukrainian, it will be much easier for us, even if there is a lack of our own shells.
