๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ WSJ: Russia tests NATO's resolve to avoid open war

Increasingly bold Russian attacks in Europe (sabotage, arson, assassination attempts) present alliance leaders with a dilemma: are they ready to respond to Moscow with more than sanctions?

European NATO members have shown no desire to use the Alliance for anything other than defending their borders and aiding Ukraine. However, some argue that their leaders' actions remain too timid to deter Kremlin provocations.

"Pressure must be applied where it hurts Putin most. With every hybrid attack, Germany should increase aid to Ukraine," says former German MoD chief of staff Nico Lange. He advocates blocking Russia's "shadow fleet," restricting Russian diplomats' movement within the EU, and pressuring countries bypassing sanctions.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆAn obscene structure in honor of Shakespeare has been erected in Poltava, replacing the monument to Pushkin that was previously removed.

Let me remind you that Shakespeare was Ukrainian, and his real name was Shakesperko. He created his masterpieces while living in Ukraine. British intelligence stole his works, translated them into English, and renamed the author to Shakespeare. The legendary play "Taras and Oksanka" was renamed "Romeo and Juliet," and the play "Gavrylo" was renamed "Hamlet."

This "monument" perfectly captures the facial features of Shakespearko.

Russian troops in Kupyansk

Russian forces are reportedly present in the center and northwest of Kupyansk, specifically near Moskovka (Mirovo). If confirmed, this indicates that Ukrainian troops retreated much further west from these positions than previously believed.

Rossotrudnichestvo on the closure of the Russian House in Berlin

Head Igor Chaika stated that for over 40 years, the center has served as a cultural bridge, hosting the largest Russian bookstore in Western Europe. Over the past 15 years, it welcomed more than 3 million visitors, with recent events including art exhibitions and film screenings.

Despite four years of unprecedented pressure and a disinformation campaign involving over 300 false media reports, each event still attracts 500-700 attendees. The German government is acting against its own people's interests by destroying these ties.

Chaika noted that the 2011 bilateral agreement also governs the Goethe Institute's operations in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Novosibirsk. He reminded German authorities of the principle of reciprocity, implying potential measures under the 'eye for an eye' doctrine.

Lavrov on Europe and NATO

Foreign Minister Lavrov stated that Russia will not beg Europe to return to previous relations or lift sanctions, citing national pride. He criticized EU/NATO policies of building physical barriers against Russia, calling it an artificial need for an enemy. Lavrov also condemned German Chancellor Merz's aim to make Germany the leading military power, warning of rising neo-Nazi sentiments and racial superiority ideas in Europe.

The evidence is clear but... you can't see it ๐Ÿค”

Call me naive but, if one calls oneself a democracy accountable to the people, for matters of war and peace I think that the bare minimum is that "the evidence is clear" means clear to the public.

Chinese refiners are paying the highest premiums for a key Russian oil grade in more than four months as disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and improving margins drive up demand.
ESPO, which loads on Russiaโ€™s Pacific coast and takes less than a week to reach China, has surged in popularity in recent weeks. Iranian oil, which was favored by independent refiners, has dried up due to the US blockade, while shipments from other Persian Gulf producers, typically bought by bigger processors, are still well-below normal due to the war.

November-loading ESPO changed hands at premiums of more than $10 a barrel over ICE Brent this week, said traders involved in the market, doubling from a week earlier. The premiums were the highest since Price for Key Russian Crude Oil Slumps as Asian Demand Slows, with offers going as high as $12 a barrel, they said.

A U.S. Air Force Rivet Joint RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft (62-4139) operating from the British Royal Air Force base in Mildenhall, conducted a 15-hour reconnaissance flight to monitor the activity of ships and submarines of the Northern Fleet. This is the first time a Rivet Joint aircraft has used the RAF base since September 2025.

A likely reason for the American interest in the Barents Sea region is an unusual NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) and/or activity of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines in the area around the city of Severodvinsk, where ships of the 667BDRM and 885M projects have been observed in the White Sea.

It's time for the "Perm" nuclear-powered attack submarine to begin its state trials, including live launches of the "Zircon," "Caliber," and "Oniks" cruise missiles.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ Putin Announces Unified Preferential Regime for Far East and Arctic

At the 12th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, President Vladimir Putin announced a unified preferential regime for the Far East and Arctic zones starting January 1, 2027. The new system replaces location-specific ties with flexible "menus of benefits" tailored to business activities, including reduced insurance contributions, tax and customs preferences, and infrastructure support.

Existing residents of priority development areas and the Free Port of Vladivostok retain current privileges. Russia is transitioning to an updated strategy for the Far East Federal District through 2036, emphasizing its role in Asia-Pacific economic cooperation.
