🇪🇺 European banks sue German company Linde over sanctions losses in Russia - FT

Deutsche Bank, UniCredit and Commerzbank have filed a lawsuit, demanding hundreds of millions of euros in compensation for assets confiscated by Russian courts.

Banks are trying to shift responsibility for their own losses from anti-Russian sanctions onto Linde, which was forced to withdraw from the project.

The case concerns a contract for the construction of a gas processing plant in Ust-Luga, work on which was suspended after EU sanctions were imposed.

Russian courts confiscated around €1 billion in assets belonging to banks in Russia: Deutsche Bank lost €244 million, UniCredit - €460 million, Commerzbank - €90 million.

BayernLB and LBBW lost €270 and €50 million respectively, and lawsuits have now been filed in German courts.
