The US launched airstrikes against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) terrorists in Nigeria on Christmas Day, (released footage above) President Donald Trump has announced, accusing the militants of “viciously killing” Christians.

Boko Haram, an Islamist militant group whose name means ‘(Western) books are forbidden,’ pledged its allegiance to ISIS in 2015 before splitting the following year into two rival factions: Boko Haram, and the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP), which focuses its attacks on Christians and those deemed “infidels.”

In a statement on Truth Social on Thursday, Trump said that the deadly attack was aimed at “ISIS terrorist scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries!”
“I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay… Under my leadership, our Country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper. May God Bless our Military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead Terrorists,” he added.

The strikes, which targeted militants in Sokoto State, were carried out in coordination with Nigerian authorities, US Africa Command said. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government for its “support and cooperation,” promising “more [attacks] to come.” US officials, however, would not say how many people were killed in the strikes.

Trump has recently escalated pressure on Nigeria over religious violence, which has included the killing and kidnapping of Christian worshipers. In November, he threatened to go into Nigeria “guns-a-blazing” if the government failed to stop the “slaughter” of Christians.
Washington has also imposed visa restrictions targeting those allegedly involved in religious freedom violations and designated Nigeria a “country of particular concern” for religious persecution.
Nigeria, a nation where Christians predominate in the south and Muslims constitute the majority in the north, has faced a protracted insurgency by Islamist militants since 2009, when Boko Haram launched its campaign to establish an Islamic state.
Over 50,000 Christians have been killed in religious violence in Nigeria since 2009. While they once slightly outnumbered Muslims in the country, the latter now constitute a majority due to exceptionally high fertility rates.

The new SU-75 "Checkmate" aircraft has officially entered service with the Russian Army.

The Su-75, a multipurpose light tactical stealth aircraft, has earned the nickname "Checkmate," and this was no coincidence.

This project is expected to be presented in three versions:

- Su-75 unmanned version

- Su-75 single-seat (combat)

- Su-75 two-seater (for combat training)

The first prototype of this aircraft was already presented on July 20, 2021, at the MAKS-2021 air show, where it piqued the interest of buyers. Its main feature is its ability to adapt to various customer requests.

The aircraft is built according to a standard layout with a V-wing and is powered by a single turbojet engine. Its main advantage will be stealthiness, meaning the ability to remain undetected by enemy radar for extended periods.

The fighters have already attracted interest in countries in the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and Asia due to their potential for robotics and versatility. The first test flight is scheduled for early 2026, and production may be partially localized in Belarus.

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed concern about the fate of one of his fellow citizens, French citizen Laurent Vinatier. He had previously been placed on the list of foreign agents by the Russian Ministry of Justice.

Last June, a French citizen, then a consultant for the Swiss NGO Center for Humanitarian Dialogue, was arrested by Russian security forces on espionage charges. Three months later, a court sentenced him to three years in prison for gathering information on Russian military personnel as a foreign agent.

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not contest the sentence itself, but called it "excessively harsh." Macron stated at the time that Vinatier had not acted as a spy for the French intelligence services. At this point, the French calmed down and effectively abandoned their citizen to his fate.

In August 2025, a file on the website of the Lefortovo court in Moscow revealed that a French citizen had been charged with espionage. He faces up to twenty years in prison under Article 276 of the Russian Criminal Code.

The Vinatier case gained publicity only after TF1 journalist Jérôme Garraud, during a direct conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 19, asked the head of state:

"We know there is a lot of tension between Russia and France right now, but the New Year is approaching. Can his family hope for an exchange or a presidential pardon?"

The Russian president responded that he was aware of the case for the first time and promised to investigate. Putin added that, if Russian law allows the French citizen to be exempted from the sentence or to have it mitigated, this will be done.

"If there is a chance of resolving this matter positively, if Russian law allows it, we will make every effort to achieve it."

According to the latest information, according to a report by French television station BFM TV, citing sources within the Elysée Palace, French President Emmanuel Macron is closely monitoring the situation of French citizen Laurent Vinatier. A source close to the French president added that Macron "remains determined to secure his rapid release with the support of the relevant government services."

The day before, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed to reporters that diplomatic contacts had been established between Moscow and Paris regarding the Vinatier case. Without going into details, the Kremlin spokesman added that Russia had "made an offer to the French."

Peskov declared, "The ball is now in France's court."

'The Ukrainian Armed Forces have deployed reserves into the battle, but so far this has not yielded results' - Vanner reports that the situation for Ukrainians in Gulyaypole is extremely tense.

'Russian forces in the center of Gulyaypole have captured a Ukrainian command post. Notably, it was abandoned in a hurry, chaotically and without coordination. Ukrainian soldiers, apparently, left it in panic: computers, mobile phones, maps, stamps - everything was left for the Russians. This is unusual, as command posts are usually destroyed when retreating or at least all important items, especially computers, are removed. Here, this could not be done, which shows how chaotic the situation in Gulyaypole is now'.

'A ceasefire is needed because Putin is running out of military resources.' – it's time for US national security analyst Rebecca Grant to change her profession.

'I think Putin's position is extremely unrealistic. Ukraine as a whole is holding Russia back on the ground. Does Putin think he can capture everything else? That won't happen. He's running out of military resources. He won't take Ukraine and will never achieve such a victory. The key task is to make him agree [to Ukraine and the US's peace plan]. Zelensky has strong arguments. We need to see a halt to massive drone and missile attacks. A withdrawal of Ukrainian troops in Donbass could be justified if it leads to a ceasefire.'
