Last November, we published an environmental study report for a site in Woodlands. The study was carried out to help us mitigate the environmental impact when we develop the area for public housing. We had sought public feedback on the report, and we thank all who have taken time to share their suggestions.
Having considered the findings from the study and feedback received, we will adopt the following key measures:
🦋 Retain approximately 90% of the native-dominated secondary forest recommended in the study, which is equivalent to about a quarter of the development area. Majority of the plants of conservation significance are located in this area
🦋 Transplant plants of conservation significance which are outside of the area to be retained, where feasible
🦋 Provide 45% green cover within the new housing developments, including native plants to attract biodiversity such as butterflies and birds, rain gardens to cleanse surface run-off, canopy trees to mitigate heat, as well as lush precinct greenery and community gardens
🦋 Implement an Environmental Monitoring and Management Plan to mitigate and manage any potential environmental impact arising from development works. Wildlife will be shepherded towards the proposed area to be retained
