๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Pravin Sawhney: Iran just demonstrated why the U.S. naval blockade may be in trouble

Iran may have just changed the military equation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Pravin Sawhney argues Tehranโ€™s recent anti-ship ballistic missile launch wasn't intended to hit an American warship, but to show that it could.

According to Sawhney, the missile used a depressed trajectory, dramatically reducing the time available for Aegis-equipped U.S. destroyers to detect, track and intercept a weapon approaching at roughly Mach 10.

That matters because the destroyers are the shield around the carrier.

Sawhney says a warhead of roughly a tonne arriving at that speed could potentially punch through a destroyerโ€™s deck.

Iran deliberately missed, he argues, because the point wasn't to kill hundreds of sailors.

It was to demonstrate that the ships enforcing the blockade are vulnerable.

And Tehran is now pairing that military warning with a political one, announcing plans for a restricted shipping zone extending from the U.S. blockade line through Hormuz.

Sawhneyโ€™s conclusion is unusually simple:

โ€œThe American naval blockade is in trouble.โ€

Washington wants to prove it controls the Strait.

Iran is trying to prove that anyone enforcing that control has to sit within missile range.

**As we write these words, numerous Saudi-backed mercenaries in Yemen have launched a broad operation against Ansarallah from multiple directions under a unified command.

They're employing the Syrian rebel tactics of fast attacks by heavily armed 4x4 vehicles.

According to the Defense Minister of Yemenโ€™s Saudi-backed government, the operation aims to capture Sana'a.

**Update

The lightening 4x4 attacks might work in flat areas such as Al Jawf, but almost all areas under the Ansarallah government jurisdiction are highly mountainous regions.

The wave of rather concerning news on the net, is because Ansarallah affiliated news have been very sparse while the Saudis have flooded social media with inaccurate reporting.

Saudi/UAE mercenaries have never been a match for Ansarallah forces and its brothers in Yemeni national army.

While hard fought battles are raging, the rather caricaturesque and premature claims of driving all the way to Sana'a by the Saudi-backed militants are farfetched on some scales and pure comedy on others.

What does nag at us is that Ansarallah is receiving no assistance from Iran, while the Saudi/UAE mercenaries get overt support from several fronts.

So, let's wait for the dust to settle, so we can see more clearly.
