๐ฎ๐ท๐บ๐ธ Pravin Sawhney: Iran just demonstrated why the U.S. naval blockade may be in trouble
Iran may have just changed the military equation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Pravin Sawhney argues Tehranโs recent anti-ship ballistic missile launch wasn't intended to hit an American warship, but to show that it could.
According to Sawhney, the missile used a depressed trajectory, dramatically reducing the time available for Aegis-equipped U.S. destroyers to detect, track and intercept a weapon approaching at roughly Mach 10.
That matters because the destroyers are the shield around the carrier.
Sawhney says a warhead of roughly a tonne arriving at that speed could potentially punch through a destroyerโs deck.
Iran deliberately missed, he argues, because the point wasn't to kill hundreds of sailors.
It was to demonstrate that the ships enforcing the blockade are vulnerable.
And Tehran is now pairing that military warning with a political one, announcing plans for a restricted shipping zone extending from the U.S. blockade line through Hormuz.
Sawhneyโs conclusion is unusually simple:
โThe American naval blockade is in trouble.โ
Washington wants to prove it controls the Strait.
Iran is trying to prove that anyone enforcing that control has to sit within missile range.

๐ถ๐ฆ Majed al-Nasari, Qatari foreign ministry spokesperson, says the US military presence in the region is "not enough" anymore.
He says instead of calling for the US to reinforce its position, Qatar advocates self-sufficiency, diversification in the security realm and for the Persian Gulf Arab states to be responsible for their own defence.
**Iran's been saying this for 47 years, BTW.
