Five years after the U.S. withdrawal, Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has called for Washington to reopen its embassy in Kabul and invest in the countryโs mineral resources, dams, and infrastructure.
In an interview with The New York Times, Muttaqi said the โchapter of warโ has ended and Afghanistan wants relations based on mutual respect, while firmly rejecting any return of U.S. troops.
The United States remains opposed to normalization, citing ongoing terrorism concerns and Taliban policies on human rights and governance.
