๐ฎ๐ถ What's exactly going on in iraq?
@SimurghRes
The new Prime Minister, Ali al-Zaidi, launched a large-scale operation at around 4:00 a.m. yesterday targeting politicians and members of parliament accused of corruption. Security forces, including tanks, reportedly surrounded Baghdad's Green Zone before conducting raids on the homes of dozens of individuals on a pre-prepared arrest list.
The operation comes shortly after the arrest of Adnan Hamad Mahmoud al-Jumaili, an Iraqi oil official who served as the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Liquidation Affairs and President of the North Oil Company. Authorities reportedly seized more than $100 million in cash and over 70 real estate properties linked to himโan extraordinary amount of wealth for someone in his position.
According to Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, al-Jumaili allegedly attempted to offer him a $600 million bribe in exchange for closing the corruption case. The prime minister stated that the offer was rejected, and the investigation continued.
Reports claim that more than 40 prominent political figures have been arrested so far. Authorities allege that the suspects collectively stole well over $1 billion in public funds.
During the raids, some reportedly attempted to destroy evidence by burning cash or hiding it underground. In one widely circulated claim, a parliament member allegedly burned around $5 million before being arrested by Iraqi Counter Terrorism Service (ICTS).
- Several politicians reportedly attempted to flee to the Kurdistan Region through flights to Erbil. However, according to some reports, the Kurdistan Regional Government cooperated by sending them back to Baghdad, where they were arrested.
- The operation has also expanded beyond Baghdad. Special operations units have reportedly been deployed across multiple provinces to arrest governors and senior local officials, including the ex-governor of Wasit.
- The operation represents one of the largest anti-corruption crackdowns in modern Iraqi history and has resulted in the arrest of numerous officials accused of stealing vast sums of public money while much of the population continued to face economic hardship.
At the same time, note that while the anti-corruption campaign has received widespread public support, questions remain about the government's long-term intentions.
I personally speculate that Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi could use the operation to replace the arrested officials with allies of his own.
I also believe the crackdown may also be intended to build public support ahead of potential future actions against armed resistance factions in an effort to disarm them.
Regardless of the political motivations, the operation has already removed many officials who were widely deeply corrupt and responsible for the misuse of billions of dollars in public resources.

๐ฎ๐ทThe Iranian government has just received another sharp rebuke from the Assembly of Experts.
This, despite the grovelling impromptu trip by President Pezeshkian to members of the Assembly of Experts who'd made clear in an official statement, that the duty of the government is not to deviate from the Leadership line on the MoU with the US.
Where as before the Pezeshkian trip, 63 members had signed onto the statement, immediately following his trip, 7 more members signed onto the pledge.
The Assembly is made up of 88 members. Four have passed away from natural causes and have yet to be replaced.
The count for members who publicly support the statement has now increased to 70: up from 63.
Many among the Iranian political scene attribute Pezeshkian's pathetic attempts to behind the scenes efforts by former president Fereydoon (aka Rouhani) and former FM Zarif's conspiratorial efforts to buy the Assembly's loyalty.
In any case, and despite an open letter from the Assembly's Secretariat criticising the mode of the members' announcement, the odds have suddenly become insurmountable for the "coup plotters".
Another howling miscalculation on their behalf is that through the USraeli process of elimination of Sepah and Army top brass loyal to the leadership, younger, more dynamic and far more capable officers have risen through the ranks, whose adherence to the Revolution is unwavering: the exact opposite of what was expected.

This, as the Ministry of the Interior has upped estimates of the mourners taking part in the Martyred Leader, Imam Seyed Ali Khamenei, from 15 to 30 million people.
This is practically one third of the entire population of Iran.

The US trynna stir a civil war both in Lebanon and Iraq.
In Lebanon, the US is trying to let the Lebanese armed forces become separated, where one faction supports dismantling the resistance weapons and another faction supports keeping the resistance weapons.
Looks like same stuff may be happening in Iraq

๐ฎ๐ท After nearly three-quarters of the 88 members of the Assembly of Experts issued a statement resembling a "fatwa" on Saturday, calling for revenge against U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the assassination of Imam Ali Khamenei, the Assembly's secretariat issued a statement on Sunday describing the statement as "unconventional" and providing clarification.
The statement issued on Saturday, signed by 63 members of the Assembly of Experts, stated that if "religious Muslims" were able to reach these American and Israeli leaders, it would be their "religious duty" to kill them.
However, a statement issued by the secretariat of the Assembly of Experts on Sunday stated that the Assembly's presidential body described the published content as "unusual and unconventional" and announced that its content requires further review and discussion.
Weird..
