UN Secretary-General António Guterres has warned that the organization is effectively engaged in a “race toward insolvency.” Around 3,000 positions have already been cut.

The situation is further aggravated by the UN’s inability to borrow money, while the majority of its expenditures are allocated to personnel costs.

Sources within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported that Tehran informed the Pakistani mediator that it remains firmly committed to ensuring that any ceasefire agreement includes the Lebanese front—not only through a cessation of hostilities, but also through a clear timetable for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory.

At the same time, Al Jazeera reported, citing sources in Tehran, that the United States had proposed a trade-off under which Iran would ease restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for Washington guaranteeing an end to the war in Lebanon and securing a security agreement between Beirut and Tel Aviv. The proposed agreement would include the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the deployment of the Lebanese Army to assume security responsibilities throughout Lebanese territory.

However, according to the same sources, Tehran rejected the proposal.

Sources within the IRGC also indicated that the Iranian leadership is considering the option of providing “military support to Lebanon” by intensifying military operations against Israeli forces should the escalation continue.
