🔸 The incident took place in the early days of the fighting on the banks of the Litani River, in an area opposite Shakif Castle. A force from the 890th Paratroopers Battalion and the Yahalom unit went on a special mission to seize an area on the other side. The force prepared for about 36 hours before carrying out the operation, including engineering equipment preparation.

🔸 At the peak of the operation deep inside enemy territory, heavy shelling began on the joint force by Hezbollah. Dozens of mortar shells and rockets were fired within minutes toward the same area.

🔸 During one of the rocket barrages, Sergeant “Moshe Yitzhak HaKohen Katz” was killed, and around 20 fighters and officers were wounded with varying degrees of injury. While evacuating the wounded, the division command center overseeing the operation hesitated between stopping the critical mission and withdrawing due to the exposure of the force, or continuing despite knowing they were under fire.

🔸 As a result of the large number of casualties within the force, it was not possible to continue the mission, and the element of surprise and the ability to cross were lost—both of which were decisive factors for proceeding.
