A Dullahan is a supernatural creature from Irish folklore, best known as a terrifying headless horseman. The name comes from Irish Dullahan, which is related to the word for “dark man.”
The Dullahan is usually described as a headless rider dressed in dark clothing, riding a powerful black horse. The most disturbing part is that he carries his own severed head in one hand. His head is sometimes described as having glowing or unnatural eyes that allow him to see enormous distances, even through the darkness.
The Dullahan is strongly connected with death. According to folklore, he rides through the countryside at night and appears when someone is about to die. In some stories, he calls out the person's name, and when the Dullahan stops riding, that person's death is near.
He is also sometimes described as carrying a whip made from a human spine. When he uses it, he can attack people or horses that get in his way. Some stories say that the Dullahan cannot be stopped by ordinary doors or gates and that they open automatically when he approaches.
