Update: Republicans just voted down my amendment to protect veterans from mass firings. This is a slap in the face to all who have dutifully served their nation.
Today, at the start of Disability Pride Month, I’m fighting tooth and nail to protect services—like Medicaid—that millions of Americans with disabilities rely on as the GOP attempts to gut these services in their budget bill. I’m proud to stand with Virginia’s disabled community.
My statement with @markwarner after we voted NO on the dangerous Republican megabill:
61 years ago today, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 became law. It finally outlawed segregation in everyday places, such as restaurants, theaters, and hotels. We’ve come a long way since, but there’s still a lot of progress to be made. Today, let’s continue that work.
My statement with @markwarner on this week’s National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) hearing about the tragic January 29 crash near DCA:
Today, I talked with State Department officers who were arbitrarily laid off by President Trump. From counterterrorism and embassy security, to protecting human rights around the world—their jobs are critical. Losing this expertise puts our security and prosperity at serious risk.

Epstein's sweetheart deal? Cut by a Republican administration.

The guy who cut it? Trump put him in his first Cabinet.

Epstein's mysterious death? During Trump's first term.

Trump promised to release the files. Now he's not.

This is a Republican scandal. What is Trump hiding?
My statement on Eli Lilly’s announcement that it will build a $5 billion manufacturing facility in Goochland County:
As a former fair housing attorney, I know the importance of safe, reliable housing—and how urgently Congress needs to address the discrimination veterans and low-income families face when applying for it. That's why I'm leading legislation to help.
Trump’s trade war with Canada has caused:
-U.S. product sales in Canada to plummet
-Canadian tourism to the U.S. to nosedive
-Damage to our relationship with one of our closest allies
I urge my colleagues to support my bill to end these new taxes and protect the American people.
My statement with @MarkWarner following new reporting on the “serious safety risks” present at DCA on the night of the deadly crash over the Potomac River and the “political and economic forces” that perpetuated those conditions:
Last month’s layoffs were the highest we’ve seen in the month of October in 22 years. That means the last time this many people were laid off in October, Friends was still releasing new episodes, Beyoncé had just released her debut solo album, and W. was still in his first term as president.

Trump is trying to weasel his way out of a court order requiring him to help millions of hungry Americans. No one, especially children, should be forced to go hungry.
We know few details but are praying for these National Guard members and their families—suffering apart at Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! Today and always, I’m thankful I get to serve and represent Virginians.
It’s Small Business Saturday! Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, but Trump’s trade wars are forcing many small business owners to make tough decisions about how they’ll continue to operate. I'll keep working to protect them from Trump's economic chaos.
