Sadhguru: Kedarnath is a tremendous space. The utterance of the sound “Shiva” attains a completely new dimension and significance in Kedar. It is a space which has been specially prepared for this particular sound. When we utter the word “Shiva,” it is the freedom of the uncreated, the liberation of one who is not created. It is almost like on this planet, the sound “Shiva” emanates from this place. For thousands of years, people have experienced that space as a reverberation of that sound.

This is also a place that has witnessed thousands of Yogis and mystics of every kind. When I say every kind, you cannot imagine those kinds. These are people who made no attempt to teach anything to anyone. Their way of making an offering to the world was by leaving their energies, their path, their work – everything – in a certain way in these spaces.

Sadhguru: I have been to many truly sacred and powerful places, I have seen many powerful beings - when I bow down to them I am genuine, but I bow down to them a little less than I would bow down to my Guru, always. It doesn't matter whether it is Kedarnath or Gautam Buddha or whoever comes in front of me, I bow down to them genuinely, but a little bit less than what I would bow down to my Guru.

But when I bow down to Kailash, I bow down to it the same way I would bow down to my Guru. Never before have I done that to anything or anyone in my whole life. I always kept a little bit extra. But with Kailash, when I bowed down I really bowed down as I do to Him.

Kailash is the greatest mystical library on the planet. In terms of inner dimensions, anything that you could ever want to know is in Kailash. If you know how to perceive and decipher it, everything that you ever want to know about your own creation, about your making and your existence, and about your liberation, it is all there in Kailash. Every tradition has deposited this knowing there and it is very much available. If one is willing to raise one's perception to sufficient clarity, it is distinctly visible.

Sadhguru: Shiva is generally referred to as the ultimate man. He is the symbolism of ultimate masculinity. But you will see in the Ardhanarishvara form of Shiva, one half of him is a fully developed woman.

Let me tell you the story of what happened. Parvati once asked Shiva, "This state that you are in within yourself, I want to experience it too. What should I do? Tell me. I am willing to do any kind of austerity." Shiva smiled and said, "There is no need for you to do any great austerity. Just come and sit on my lap."

Parvati came and with absolutely no resistance towards him, sat on his left lap. Since she was so willing, since she had placed herself totally in his hands, he just pulled her in and she became half of him. You need to understand, if he has to accommodate her, he has to shed half of himself. So he shed half of himself and included her. This is the story of Ardhanarishvara.

This is a dialectical way of saying that the masculine and feminine are equally divided within yourself. And when he included her, he became ecstatic. What is being said is that if the inner masculine and feminine meet, you are in a perpetual state of ecstasy. If you try to do it on the outside, it never lasts, and all the troubles that come with that are an ongoing drama.

Essentially, it is not two people longing to meet, it is two dimensions of life longing to meet - outside as well as inside. If you achieve it inside, the outside will happen one hundred percent by choice. If you do not achieve it inside, the outside will be a terrible compulsion. This is the way of life. This is the reality which is being expressed in a beautiful dialectal form.
