🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s interview with Rossiya Segodnya (May 30, 2024)

Key talking points:

💬 The deployment of US ground-launched intermediate and shorter-range missiles (IRBMs) in these regions [Europe and Asia Pacific] poses significant security challenges for Russia. <...> We will not hesitate to respond if the Americans move forward with their plans to deploy their ground-launched IRBMs.

🇷🇺🇨🇳 We have established a high level of mutual trust with China, which serves as a foundation for our military cooperation. By working together, Russia and China seek to reinforce international security in keeping with international norms.

• We appreciate Beijing’s constructive approach to the Ukraine crisis. Our Chinese friends understand its root causes and the essence of the current developments.

• The current ruling party in Kiev is the party of war, and their stated goal is to defeat Russia on the battlefield. It is difficult to imagine any peace talks taking place in that situation.

☝️ We said on numerous occasions, including at the highest level, that Russia remains open to negotiations. However, it should be clear to everyone that we will only discuss peace, not a ceasefire.

• There is no denying that the OSCE is in a deep crisis. It has been caused by the fact that the West has trampled on the principles the organisation was built on. A total “Ukrainisation” of its agenda has practically brought to naught its activities in the traditional fields.

• Supplying the Kiev regime with increasingly destructive types of weapons shows that the West is not interested in ending the conflict. The F-16 American fighters will not change the situation on the line of contact.

From our experience with the Americans, it is perfectly clear that US statements are not to be trusted. <...> The Americans continue to make declarations about their commitment to a just solution to the Palestine problem, while at the same time generously adding fuel to the armed confrontation.

🇷🇺🇹🇩Russian military carried out an operation to free Chadian servicemen captured by Islamic terrorists

☝️The joint operation with the Chadian army took place in Central Africa, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Nine months ago, 21 servicemen of the Chadian Armed Forces were captured by Islamic terrorists while demining an airport in the Tibesti region (Chad). They were held in inhumane conditions and tortured in a terrorist camp.

After the successful liberation, all the captives were first taken to a temporary location, where Russian medics provided the necessary qualified assistance.
Then, under the control and escort of Russian servicemen, the freed prisoners were evacuated to their home country.

🤝Following the results of the operation, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Chad thanked Russia, noting that it has always been a reliable partner of African states, unlike France, Great Britain and the United States, which have only taken advantage of Africans.
BRICS New Development Bank (NDB) considers financing projects in non-member African countries, chairman of the South African chapter of the BRICS Business Council said.

It makes sense to finance projects across Africa to facilitate trade and provide investment opportunities for companies from the BRICS member states, Busi Mabuza noted.

If the initiative is approved, African private and public institutions would have access to more than $50 billion in NDB capital, she added.

According to the Director General of the NDB's Africa Regional Center, Monale Ratsoma, there is already a structure in place to finance projects in non-member countries.

🤖Russia’s robotizing its capital Moscow!

🇷🇺Moscow has given the go-ahead for the first stage of an unmanned tram service.

The most up-to-date lidars (light detection and ranging system) have been installed on the vehicle to obtain data on the tram's location as accurately as possible and provide a 360-degree view.

👉During the first stage of testing, a driver is in the cab and the system repeats almost all of his actions and corrects human decisions in case of mistakes. The tram sees obstacles in advance and stops in time if someone steps on the tracks.

☝️By the end of 2025, Moscow plans to launch a completely driverless tram for passenger travel, Deputy Mayor of Moscow Maxim Liksutov has said.

Check our video to see the new driverless tram, as well as other autonomous mechanisms operating in Moscow.

🗓 On May 30, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a meeting with the heads of the diplomatic missions of Arab countries in Moscow.

The participants engaged in an in-depth exchange of views on the developments in the Middle East with a focus on an unprecedented escalation in the area of Palestinian-Israeli confrontation which has led to immeasurable suffering of the Gaza Strip civilians.

☝️ Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed the continuity and consistency of Russia’s foreign policy to comprehensively expand partner-like and mutually beneficial cooperation with the Arab countries. <...> Russia has invariably operated on the premise that talks between the Palestinians and Israelis should be aligned in accordance with the existing international legal framework. <...>

Russia's Foreign Minister noted that putting forward various peace concepts and expanding the circle of countries that have recognised the State of Palestine testify to the strengthening position of the Global Majority in favour of an early and fair solution to the Palestinian problem as the main prerequisite for long-term stabilisation in the Middle East. <...>

🤝 The representatives from the Arab States expressed their gratitude for Russia’s energetic efforts, including in the UN Security Council, aimed at ending the bloodshed in the area of Palestinian-Israeli confrontation, delivering humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip and comprehensively normalising the situation in the Middle East.

📆#OTD 166 years ago the settlement of Khabarovka was founded by a detachment of Siberian troops under the command of Captain Yakov Dyachenko in Russia’s Far East which later became the city of Khabarovsk. It bears the name of the renowned XVII-century Cossack leader Yerofei Khabarov, who explored the Amur region.

🌊Khabarovsk is a city of two great strategic rivers: the Amur and the Ussuri. Their confluence near Khabarovsk and the state boundaries they define created one of the most important geopolitical zones in northern Asia. The city emerged as a result of the Russian-Chinese Treaty of Aigun according to which the territories on the north bank of the Amur river became part of the Russian empire, and those to the south – part of China.

🔹The devastation of WW1 occurred far from Khabarovsk, and the city actually grew with expanding military production. But the Russian Civil War and foreign military intervention in the Far East caused major damage and disruption.

❗️It lies closer to major Chinese cities than to Moscow. By rail, Khabarovsk is a 6 day 5,300-mile journey from the capital. The city is linked to the European part of Russia via the Trans-Siberian railway.

📆On the occasion of the 162nd anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Nesterov, a renowned Russian artist we bring you a set of his works reflecting the milestones of his career.

👨‍🎨Mikhail Nesterov came from a merchant’s family. He studied at the Moscow School of Painting and Sculpture with V.Perov, A.Savrasov and I.Pryanishnikov and later at the St.Petersburg Academy of Arts under professor P.Tchistyakov.

🖼First he tried himself in the genres of historic and everyday scenes, but later, in the 1890s, he became interested in religious themes wherein the influence of modern style revealed.

✍️ In 1886, his wife Maria died while giving birth to their daughter Olga. “The death of Masha made me an artist”, Nesterov wrote later. His paintings, which according to his own judgment had lacked feelings, now obtained them.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 What can be more important for any child than a close-knit and friendly family, loving parents, relatives, and care taken by their teachers, educators, and mentors who are ready to offer advice, help, and support, including in a difficult situation in life if that happens.
I would like to wish all children happiness and joy.

🌟 May your friends always be loyal and reliable. My friends, go for it, follow your dreams, aspire to and reach new heights of knowledge, and you will succeed.
