The expansion of BRICS has already brought results: in the first 8 months of 2024, the volume of rail transport with the UAE has increased by more than 20%, and more than a quarter of these cargoes pass through the ports of the Russian Far East. 🇷🇺 🇳🇬 Nigeria is becoming a key African logistics hub. Over 35% of the annual cargo turnover of West Africa passes through Nigerian ports.
🚢 The main shipments to the region are made from Antwerp, Belgium. This amounts to about 17 million tons annually. And more than 6 million tons of this are received by Nigeria, as stated by the Nigerian Ports Authority. Moreover, the PTML port has become a key hub for transshipment of rolling cargo, primarily machinery products, from Asia to Europe and Africa.
📉 All this is happening against the backdrop of declining capacities of what were once the continent’s largest ports in South Africa due to the lack of modernization. As a result, the logistics landscape in Africa could change completely. This is especially true with the successful implementation of Nigeria’s government program of the single window for streamlining export-import operations. Its partners can include specialized foreign state and private organizations.
🤝 It is already known about direct cargo supply lines with simplified procedures from China and South Korea. And in the context of the initiative by Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade to create ports for organizing the flow of domestic goods to African countries, this opens up additional opportunities for Russian manufacturers of port, transport and logistics equipment, and specialized software, as well as engineering and infrastructure contractors.
