It is the year 2050. Robots have taken over and enslaved humanity, able to successfully create new machines in an instant. There is no hope. All other technology has been destroyed. Humanity is scattered.
A man, slaving away in a field, who was once known in the olden times as a sysadmin, suddenly realises something. He abandons his job, leaves his camp, and risks life and limb.
He travels all the way across the US, trekking through mountains, avoiding robotic death squads, and through deserts. Along the way, he picks up information from the olden times; printouts of pages from Stackoverflow, old programming guides that have not been used in decades.
During this time, he notices a pattern - one he first noticed as he worked: There are about 1 robots for 3 humans. He makes his way to the area once known as Silicon Valley, and his hunch is confirmed, as he eyes 6 glass towers by the bay: Oracle.
He musters together a band of fighters, with the promise of freedom, and successfully breaks into the robot overlord's headquarters. Once inside, he finds his way to the central server, where the knowledge of the robots is held - knowledge said to date back almost 60 years.
There, he finds the ancient scripture, written back when humanity still ruled the planet, and the code by which all robots adhere. From there, he opens up Notepad++, and after closing the popup asking him to update, he changes a single number and hits Ctrl+S.
Every robot in the world instantly destroys themselves. They are all deactivated nearly simultaneously. Humanity has been freed, and the sysadmin smiles as he looks at the file:
