Darren Robbie, Series Director at Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, has announced the completion of the first season of Foster's Funtime for Imaginary Friends following a two-year production journey.

The new season features 40 11-minute episodes of CG animation. Robbie describes the series as full of chaos and anarchy, promising plenty of comedy alongside occasional emotional moments.

Robbie highlighted what an honour it was to collaborate directly with the franchise's legendary creator, Craig McCracken, bringing his imaginative ideas to life.

He extended heartfelt thanks to the wider Hanna-Barbera crew, specifically mentioning Sarah Fell, Emma Fernando, Sam Register, and the core production team, including early compatriots Alex Jennings and Dimana Bratanova. He also thanked Art Director Kirsten Shiel, Catherine Salkeld for storyboarding, Rhys Byfield for editing, Guillaume Glachant for animation direction, and Joe Sparrow and the motion graphics team for the show's song sections.

A broadcast date is currently to be confirmed. Official images from the finished production will be released closer to the premiere.

Reruns of Steven Universe and Uncle Grandpa are officially returning to Cartoon Network USA's daily schedule starting on the 7th of September. Steven Universe will air daily at 9:04 AM Eastern, and Uncle Grandpa will follow at 12:00 PM Eastern daily. Both series are also currently available to stream on Hulu.

Steven Universe is expanding with a new spin-off titled Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars. The series is in development for Amazon and will focus on Lars travelling through space, though an official release date has not yet been announced.
Uncle Grandpa, conversely, has no plans for a revival or spin-off. Series creator Pete Browngardt has previously expressed dissatisfaction with the upcoming Warner Bros. and Paramount merger, making any future continuation of the programme highly unlikely.

Summary of the Men's Journal exclusive interview with John Cena and Will Forte regarding their film Coyote vs. Acme:

Despite being shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery in 2023 due to a shift away from straight-to-streaming releases, Coyote vs. Acme has been rescued. Ketchup Entertainment purchased the distribution rights, and the film is officially set for a theatrical release on 28 August 2026. Both Cena and Forte credit the vocal support of fans for getting the live-action/animation hybrid into cinemas, noting that audience demand was the driving force behind the rescue.

Behind the Scenes

The actors discussed the unique challenges of filming a hybrid project. Forte highlighted the meticulous, months-long planning required to map out how animated characters would interact with live-action environments and complex stunts—such as an animated piano crushing a real car. Cena praised the entire crew, from the director to the props department, for leaning into the whimsy and imagination required for the film.

A New Spin on a Classic Character

Based on an article by Ian Frazier in The New Yorker, the film flips the traditional script on the Looney Tunes universe. Instead of just laughing at Wile E. Coyote's endless suffering, the story encourages audiences to sympathise with him. Cena noted that he used to idolise the Road Runner as a child, but the script's fresh perspective was a brilliant way to turn the dynamic on its head for a new generation.

Sequel Potential

When asked if they would be open to returning for a sequel, both Cena and Forte were enthusiastic. Cena enthusiastically agreed, saying he would "love to get the band back together", and Forte confirmed he was "100%" on board.

Warner Bros. Pictures Animation has scheduled the animated film Margie Claus to be released in cinemas on the 12th of November 2027. The date was pushed back by a week, which avoids a direct box office clash with Universal's holiday comedy Naughty. Melissa McCarthy voices the titular character, Margie Claus. She is joined by newly announced cast members Jim Gaffigan as Santa and Andrew Scott as Jack Frost.

The wider ensemble features Octavia Spencer, Maria Bakalova, Cedric Yarbrough, and Cole Escola, among others. The story follows Santa's wife, Margie, who must embark on a dangerous journey to the South Pole to rescue her husband and save Christmas. The film is directed by Kirk DeMicco, with a script written by Ben Falcone and Damon Jones. Pop star Meghan Trainor will write and produce the original songs, while McCarthy, Falcone, and Michelle L.M. Wong are producing the project.

MeTV Toons is updating its autumn schedule starting September 21, adding a mix of highly requested classics, rare broadcasts, and newly created programming blocks.

The most significant acquisition is The Quick Draw McGraw Show, which is returning to television after years out of circulation due to complex rights and materials issues. Warner Bros. Discovery has completed a full restoration of the Hanna-Barbera classic, keeping the original broadcast packaging intact. This includes the original opens, closes, and the Snooper and Blabber and Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy segments. Sonic the Hedgehog and Heathcliff will also join the regular weekday lineup. Other incoming titles include Centurions, The Mask, and Police Academy: The Animated Series.

The network is also introducing several curated programming blocks. A new Sunday-night block, Situation Animation, will be dedicated entirely to animated spin-offs of classic live-action sitcoms, including The Fonz and the Happy Days Gang, The New Adventures of Gilligan, Jeannie, and The Addams Family. Cartoon Carousel will be a weekly rotating block that will spotlight a different classic series every week, and Animation Antiques will be a dedicated block showcasing theatrical animated shorts from the 1930s and 1940s.

A new report by CVL Economics for Los Angeles County projects that the proposed merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. could result in the loss of 4,500 local film and television production jobs over the next three years. The report suggests the merger will accelerate an existing downturn as the combined company consolidates its slates and cuts costs to pay down debt, potentially moving productions out of Los Angeles.

This job loss is estimated to cause a ripple effect totaling 10,360 lost jobs across the regional economy. In response, a Paramount spokesperson stated the report highlights an industry already in decline and claimed the merger will create a stronger company that invests 30 billion dollars annually in production, though they did not commit to keeping those productions in L.A.

The merger is currently on hold until at least March 2027 due to an antitrust lawsuit from 12 state attorneys general. The Writers Guild of America is also suing over concerns about reduced project opportunities, while the Directors Guild of America and IATSE are urging a settlement to avoid the risks associated with delaying the deal.

Oni Press has announced a new fifty six page one shot comic titled Adventure Time Bonnie the Vampire Hunter Special number 1. Written by Eisner Award winning cartoonist Caroline Cash with artwork by Cash and Tia Roxae, the comic explores an alternate universe for the favourite characters Princess Bubblegum and Marceline.

Instead of continuing the established canon, the story reimagines Princess Bubblegum as a dedicated vampire hunter living on the fringes of society rather than in the Candy Kingdom. Her mission becomes complicated when she targets an unusually attractive vampire who turns out to be Marceline. To make matters more chaotic, Marceline already has a boyfriend, which sparks a romantic rivalry filled with the classic comedic energy of the original programme.

This alternate setting allows the creators to explore the chemistry of the duo without repeating old stories. The comic will be released on the 18th of November 2026 for eight dollars and ninety nine cents. It features a main cover by Caroline Cash, variant covers by Tia Roxae and K Wroten, and a black and white variant by Cash.

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing is Free on YouTube:

The classic 90s mecha anime Mobile Suit Gundam Wing is officially available to stream for free on the Gundam Channel INTL on YouTube. The series will remain available on the platform until 31 March 2027.

Key Takeaways from the Article:
A Toonami Classic: Originally debuting on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block in 2000, the series served as a crucial entry point into the Gundam franchise and serialised anime for a whole generation of Western fans.

Mature Themes: Unlike standard hero-versus-villain cartoons of its time, Gundam Wing stood out by treating its audience seriously. It explored heavy concepts such as political conspiracies, the moral ambiguity of violence, and the tragic consequences of turning teenagers into soldiers.

Iconic Mecha and Characters: The series is famous for its distinct, highly recognisable mobile suits (Wing, Deathscythe, Heavyarms, Sandrock, and Shenlong). Each mech was uniquely tailored to its pilot, resulting in a memorable, personality-driven cast.

Highly Accessible: Because Gundam Wing is a standalone story with its own universe, viewers do not need any prior knowledge of the wider Gundam timeline to understand it.

The article notes that this YouTube release is a perfect opportunity for nostalgic fans to easily revisit a childhood favourite, whilst allowing a new generation to experience the show's grand storytelling and unapologetic 90s charm without the usual hurdles of tracking down older anime.

The Powerpuff Girls went on to become a generational hit, but it was almost derailed early in its development by a disastrous focus group. When creator Craig McCracken first screened his initial short to a group of pre-teen boys, they intensely disliked it, with one stating it was "the worst cartoon that's ever been made".

In response to the harsh criticism, McCracken internalised the feedback and drastically overhauled the show. He redesigned the characters, trying to make them look more like "real kids" by giving them fingers. However, then-Cartoon Network producer Mike Lazzo intervened. He encouraged McCracken not to compromise his unique art style and original vision just because of one negative test audience.

Lazzo helped McCracken realise that the boys didn't connect with the short because it featured aged-up humour, rather than an issue with the animation itself. Following this advice, McCracken reverted the character designs and instead focused on improving the writing. He added more context about how the girls got their powers and what their daily lives were like outside of fighting crime. Trusting a creator's vision over a negative focus group was a highly unusual move for Cartoon Network at the time, but it proved to be the right decision that ultimately saved the show.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta cancelled a scheduled mediation session with Paramount regarding its proposed $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD).

Accusations of 'Playing Games': The talks were called off after Bonta accused Paramount of acting in bad faith. He alleged that the company leaked confidential details of a preliminary meeting to the press and misrepresented the substance of those discussions. Bonta stated that his office would be happy to resume negotiations only when Paramount "stops playing games and engages sincerely."

Paramount's Response: Paramount has denied being the source of the leaks. The company stated that it shares Bonta's concerns regarding the misreporting of the deal and remains ready to continue discussions in good faith.

High Stakes and Financial Pressure: The cancelled meeting is a significant setback for Paramount. Bonta, alongside 11 other state attorneys general and the Writers Guild of America, sued to block the mega-merger in July 2026 over antitrust and competition concerns. While the trial is set for March 2027, Paramount is under immense pressure to settle quickly:

Ticking Fees: Starting on the 1st of October, Paramount must pay WBD shareholders a $7 million daily fee for every day the merger remains unclosed.

Political Pressure: Paramount head David Ellison has threatened to move operations out of California if the deal is not finalised soon. Meanwhile, political figures like California Governor Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass have urged both sides to reach a swift resolution.

Bonta's office is reportedly demanding "robust structural remedies"—such as divesting certain cable channels and keeping the WB movie studio separate—before agreeing to any settlement.
