Today's UK Column News featured a litany of names of people running Ofcom, the British state regulator of broadcasters, highlighting how many of them are ex-BBC.

With the catastrophic decline in BBC licence fee payers and watchers, the BBC's relevance (as in its desperate plea, "It's Our BBC") from now on is going to reside in regulatory capture: in furnishing the governing class with the coves who busy themselves with censoring and hedging about actual journalism. (As Ofcom head Dame Melanie Dawes' schoolfriend James Delingpole says of her and her usefully zealous ilk, "Terribly nice, but awfully bossy and terribly woke.")

It strikes me that the NHS and the Church of England—which in my analysis always partner with the BBC as a triad to own body, mind and soul the British people and our penumbra abroad—are being lined up for the same role.

There won't be any NHS or C of E services worth speaking of, but anyone else seeking to offer healthcare or religious ministry in the land will be subjected to the same officiousness as Ofcom now exerts upon actual providers.

Ofcom, Ofmed, Ofpray.

(Not forgetting Ofsted, which has replaced the trade unions as the programmer of rising generations to demand an ever bigger state.)
