According to The Age, the University of Melbourne in Australia is under investigation for potential privacy law breaches. This comes after reports that the university used surveillance to identify students participating in a sit-in protest against the Israeli genocide in Gaza.

The investigation was initiated after twenty-one pro-Palestine students received "general misconduct" notices, which included CCTV footage and WiFi usage records as evidence.

The Australian Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner is conducting the investigation and may issue a compliance notice if significant breaches are confirmed.
