Clashes Continue Between Syrian Forces, Kurdish-Led SDF Despite Ceasefire Extension
Factions affiliated with Syria's Ministry of Defense continued their attacks on Kurdish forces in the Kobani countryside on Sunday
A 15-day ceasefire extension was reached on 24 January between Syria’s Defense Ministry and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in northeast Syria, amid ongoing clashes in the Ain al-Arab (Kobani) countryside.
Authorities in Damascus said the extension was intended to support a US-led operation to evacuate ISIS prisoners from SDF-run prisons to Iraq.
The SDF also issued a statement confirming that an agreement to extend the ceasefire had been reached, affirming their commitment to the deal as a step toward de-escalation, civilian protection, and stability.
Government troops loyal to Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, the former Al-Qaeda and ISIS leader, have seized swathes of northern and eastern territory in the last two weeks in an effort to crush the Kurdish-dominated Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
SDF fighters from the Arab-majority and tribal areas of northeast Syria abandoned the SDF’s Kurdish leadership, allowing Sharaa’s forces to take full control of Raqqa and Deir Ezzor Governorates. The SDF retains control of Hasakah city, which has a large Kurdish minority, and Qamishli, which has a Kurdish majority.

Canadian PM Says 'No Intention' Of Striking China Trade Deal Following Trump's New Tariff Threats
Canada and China have reduced mutual tariffs on goods like EVs and canola oil in recent weeks
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated on 25 January that he is not pursuing a free trade deal with China following threats by US President Donald Trump.
Carney said under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with the US and Mexico, Canada made commitments not to pursue free trade agreements with non-market economies without prior notification.
“We have no intention of doing that with China or any other non-market economy,” the Canadian premier said. “What we have done with China is to rectify some issues that developed in the last couple of years.”
On Saturday, Trump threatened to impose a 100 percent tariff on Canada if it reached a new trade deal with China.
“If Canada makes a deal with China, it will immediately be hit with a 100% Tariff against all Canadian goods and products coming into the U.S.A.,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The President said there is now a large “armada” in the Middle East
President Donald Trump renewed his threats to attack Iran if the Islamic Republic does not comply with his demands. The President claimed that Iran must agree to a new nuclear deal or would be attacked by the “armada” Trump has assembled in the Middle East.
“A massive Armada is heading to Iran. It is a larger fleet, headed by the great Aircraft Carrier Abraham Lincoln, than that sent to Venezuela. Like with Venezuela, it is ready, willing, and able to rapidly fulfill its mission, with speed and violence, if necessary,” the President wrote on Truth Social Wednesday .
“Hopefully Iran will quickly ‘Come to the Table’ and negotiate a fair and equitable deal – NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS – one that is good for all parties. Time is running out, it is truly of the essence!” He continued, “As I told Iran once before, MAKE A DEAL! They didn’t, and there was ‘Operation Midnight Hammer,’ a major destruction of Iran. The next attack will be far worse! Don’t make that happen again.”
After returning to the White House, Trump tightened sanctions on Iran and threatened to attack the Islamic Republic if it did not agree to a deal that would limit or eliminate its civilian nuclear program.
Tehran has stated that it is willing to agree to limitations and strict inspections of its nuclear program, but it will continue to enrich uranium. The President has asserted that Iran must completely eliminate its enrichment program.

'Gaza’s first planned community' will be built on the ruins of Rafah and could provide an excuse for Israel to steal more Palestinian land
The UAE is set to fund the construction of a tightly surveilled ghetto for Palestinians on the ruins of Rafah in southern Gaza, providing a limited number of Palestinians with basic services as long as they submit to biometric data collection and security vetting, The Guardian reported on 24 January.
According to planning documents and people familiar with the matter, plans for the construction of “Gaza’s first planned community” were held at the US-led Civil Military Coordination Center (CMCC) in Israel.
The CMCC has been tasked with overseeing the administration of Gaza as part of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point “peace plan” for the strip.
The Guardian obtained an unclassified slide deck detailing the plans, which were approved by Israeli officials. The slide deck was used in a presentation to a group of European donors who visited the CMCC on 14 January.
The planned ghetto in Rafah will be overseen by Trump’s newly created “Board of Peace,” which has been mandated to oversee reconstruction efforts in Gaza.

'Gaza’s first planned community' will be built on the ruins of Rafah and could provide an excuse for Israel to steal more Palestinian land
The UAE is set to fund the construction of a tightly surveilled ghetto for Palestinians on the ruins of Rafah in southern Gaza, providing a limited number of Palestinians with basic services as long as they submit to biometric data collection and security vetting, The Guardian reported on 24 January.
According to planning documents and people familiar with the matter, plans for the construction of “Gaza’s first planned community” were held at the US-led Civil Military Coordination Center (CMCC) in Israel.
The CMCC has been tasked with overseeing the administration of Gaza as part of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point “peace plan” for the strip.
The Guardian obtained an unclassified slide deck detailing the plans, which were approved by Israeli officials. The slide deck was used in a presentation to a group of European donors who visited the CMCC on 14 January.
The planned ghetto in Rafah will be overseen by Trump’s newly created “Board of Peace,” which has been mandated to oversee reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
