Israeli Army Officially Reinstates Soldiers Caught On Tape Raping Palestinian Prisoner

Israeli courts dropped the charges despite video and medical evidence of the assault

Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir approved the return of five Unit 100 soldiers charged with the rape and torture of a Palestinian detainee at Sde Teiman prison to active military service, even though investigations into their crimes remain incomplete, Haaretz reported on April 16.

The decision allows reservists implicated in the assault to resume service while the military says its internal inquiry “will be completed soon,” adding that “the investigation does not prevent them from serving in the reserves.”

The case centers on five soldiers who were charged in February 2025 with raping a Palestinian detainee in Sde Taiman prison in July 2024.

The soldiers beat the detainee, dragged him across the ground, stepped on his body, and used a taser against him, including to the head. One soldier stabbed him in the anus, causing a tear in the rectal wall.

VIDEO | Just one minute before the ceasefire came into effect at midnight, Israel carried out an airstrike on a residential complex in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre, resulting in a massacre, according to NBN reporter Hasan Fakih, who was at the scene.

This morning, emergency teams recovered the bodies of 11 victims from beneath the rubble of a residential complex in Tyre, while 35 others were reported injured. Civil defense crews are continuing their search for those still missing under the debris.

❗️62% of Israelis believe that Israel will resume US-led aggression on Iran

Three opinion polls published in Tel Aviv indicate that a clear majority of Israelis, some 62 percent, believe the war against Iran will resume in the near future. Just 24 percent said they do not expect the fighting to restart, while another 14 percent remain unsure, underscoring a prevailing expectation that the current ceasefire marks only a temporary pause in hostilities.

The surveys, conducted by Kan 11, Channel 12, and Maariv alongside Walla, point to widespread dissatisfaction with Israel’s political leadership, even as military figures receive significantly higher approval ratings. Across the polls, Netanyahu and his cabinet were assessed poorly compared with senior security officials, with results also suggesting that a wartime context would not be enough to secure his political survival in a future election.

In the Maariv and Walla poll, 46 percent said Israel and the United States had not won the war, while only 22 percent claimed victory. Channel 12 similarly found that most respondents either rejected the idea of victory or saw no clear outcome, with over half opposing the ceasefire. Across all three surveys, support for continuing the war against Lebanon remained overwhelming.

❗️Sharaa says Israel talks progressing despite 'great difficulty'

Talks with Israel have not broken down but are continuing with “great difficulty” because Israel insists on maintaining its presence on Syrian territory, Syria's self-appointed President Ahmad al-Sharaa said, adding that Syria remains “serious” about reaching a security agreement aimed at preserving regional stability.

In an interview with Anadolu Agency, Sharaa said Israel “is acting with great brutality” and is occupying areas near the Golan, while Damascus has “chosen a diplomatic path” to avoid further escalation.

Regarding relations with Turkiye, he stated that cooperation between the two countries “will shape the future of regional and global security.”

He also said Turkiye has 'supported' Syrians throughout 14 years of war, adding that the two nations share “deep historical and geographical ties.”
