Talks with Israel have not broken down but are continuing with “great difficulty” because Israel insists on maintaining its presence on Syrian territory, Syria's self-appointed President Ahmad al-Sharaa said, adding that Syria remains “serious” about reaching a security agreement aimed at preserving regional stability.
In an interview with Anadolu Agency, Sharaa said Israel “is acting with great brutality” and is occupying areas near the Golan, while Damascus has “chosen a diplomatic path” to avoid further escalation.
Regarding relations with Turkiye, he stated that cooperation between the two countries “will shape the future of regional and global security.”
He also said Turkiye has 'supported' Syrians throughout 14 years of war, adding that the two nations share “deep historical and geographical ties.”

A ceasefire means a complete halt to all hostilities, and because we do not trust this enemy, the resistance fighters will remain in the field with their fingers on the trigger, and will respond to any breaches of the ceasefire accordingly. There can be no ceasefire on the part of the resistance alone; it must be mutual. We will not accept another fifteen months of patience in the face of Israeli aggression whilst waiting for diplomacy that has achieved nothing.
The next step is the implementation of the five points:
1. A permanent halt to aggression throughout Lebanon by air, land and sea.
2. The withdrawal of the Israeli enemy from the occupied territories up to the border.
3. The release of prisoners.
4. The return of residents to their villages and towns up to the border.
5. Reconstruction with international and Arab support and national responsibility.
Hezbollah is open to the fullest cooperation with the authorities in Lebanon, turning a new page based on achieving the sovereignty of our homeland, Lebanon, within a framework of unity, preventing strife, and harnessing our potential within a national security strategy. We shall build our homeland, Lebanon, together; we shall prevent foreign interference and thwart the Israeli enemy’s political objectives; and we shall translate sovereignty and the protection of citizens into clear measures and plans.
Israel and the tyrants of the earth have not defeated us, and they will not defeat us, especially after the sacrifices of the martyrs, foremost among them the leader of the nation’s martyrs, Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah (may God have mercy on him), Sayyid al-Hashimi, and all the martyrs, and the sacrifices of the wounded, the prisoners, and the great people. Lebanon’s head will remain held high by its self-sacrificing sons.
