The second group of Palestinian prisoners released as part of the Gaza ceasefire deal includes 121 serving life sentences

Israeli authorities released 200 Palestinians from Israeli prisons on 25 January as part of the Gaza ceasefire agreement with Hamas.

WAFA news agency reports that according to the Palestinian Commission for Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners Society, the group includes 121 who were serving life sentences and 79 serving long-term sentences.

Hamas released four female Israeli soldiers as part of the deal earlier in the day.

One hundred fourteen Palestinian prisoners were transferred from Ofer Prison in the occupied West Bank for release in Ramallah, 16 were returned to Gaza, and 70 were exiled outside Palestine, WAFA added. Egypt will host them for 48 hours before they are sent to Tunisia, Algeria, and Turkiye – which all agreed to receive them.

Trump wants Jordan and Egypt to accept more refugees and floats plan to ‘just clean out’ Gaza)

President Donald Trump said Saturday he would like to see Jordan, Egypt and other Arab nations increase the number of Palestinian refugees they are accepting from the Gaza Strip, potentially moving out enough of the population to “just clean out” the war-torn area to create a virtual clean slate.

During a 20-minute question-and-answer session with reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump also said he has ended his predecessor’s hold on sending 2,000-pound bombs to Israel. ..

“We released them today,” Trump said of the bombs. “They’ve been waiting for them for a long time.” Asked why he lifted the ban on those bombs, Trump responded, “Because they bought them.”

Trump has built his political career around being unapologetically pro-Israel. On his larger vision for Gaza, Trump said he had call earlier in the day with King Abdullah II of Jordan and would speak Sunday with President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi of Egypt.

“I’d like Egypt to take people,” Trump said. “You’re talking about probably a million and a half people, and we just clean out that whole thing and say, ‘You know, it’s over.’”

Trump said he complimented Jordan for having successfully accepted Palestinian refugees and that he told the king, “I’d love for you to take on more, cause I’m looking at the whole Gaza Strip right now, and it’s a mess. It’s a real mess.”


... Still, Trump said the part of the world that encompasses Gaza, has “had many, many conflicts” over centuries. He said resettling “could be temporary or long term.”

“Something has to happen,” Trump said. “But it’s literally a demolition site right now. Almost everything’s demolished, and people are dying there.” He added: “So, I’d rather get involved with some of the Arab nations, and build housing in a different location, where they can maybe live in peace for a change.”

..He suggested after he was inaugurated on Monday that Gaza has “really got to be rebuilt in a different way.”

The new president added then, ”Gaza is interesting. It’s a phenomenal location, on the sea. The best weather, you know, everything is good. It’s like, some beautiful things could be done with it, but it’s very interesting.”

Clashes are raging between Israeli forces and the Palestinian resistance in Jenin and its refugee camp

The death toll from Israel’s brutal operation in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin and its refugee camp has risen to 13, as Palestinian Authority (PA) forces cooperate with Tel Aviv in the indiscriminate assault.

A young resistance fighter, Mohammad Shadi al-Sabah, was shot dead by PA troops in the Jenin camp late on 22 January, bringing the number of deaths to 13 in under 48 hours.

Israeli troops demolished a home in the town of Burqin, west of Jenin, on Wednesday night after besieging it for hours. The resistance fighters who were inside reportedly refused to surrender. Two fighters responsible for a shooting operation that assassinated three Israelis in Al-Funduq village earlier this month were killed.

Heavy clashes continued to rage in the area as well as in Jenin city and the camp, continuing into the next morning – with the Jenin Brigade of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) movement’s Quds Brigades announcing several operations against Israeli forces.

“Our fighters detonated a guided explosive device in a military vehicle in the Jalbuni axis, achieving confirmed injuries,” the Jenin Brigade said early on 23 January.
