Yemen Says Pro-Palestine Operations Will Continue If Israel 'Escalates Or Resumes Massacres' In Gaza

Israel has killed at least 87 Palestinians in Gaza since Joe Biden announced that a ceasefire agreement had been reached

Ansarallah leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi confirmed on 16 January that Yemen's military operations in support of Palestine will persist if Israel keeps massacring civilians in Gaza before a ceasefire starts on Sunday.

“If the Israeli forces continue committing massacres in the three days leading up to the agreement’s implementation, we will persist with our military operations in support of the Palestinian people,” Houthi said during a televised address on Thursday.

“Our stance aligns with our Palestinian brothers. If the enemy escalates or resumes massacres, we stand ready to offer military support,” the resistance leader stressed.

Houthi also said that the announcement by the US and Qatar of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza is an “important development,” highlighting that “the Israeli enemy was forced, along with the Americans, to go to the agreement in Gaza after months of horrific crimes.”

“The enemy failed in Gaza despite having enormous capabilities and a high level of intelligence activity to end the resistance and eliminate all the mujahideen,” the leader of Ansarallah said, adding that Israel and the US “failed in Gaza despite the siege on the resistance that was established from the beginning.”

'All Forces, Hands Off Syria': Erdogan Vows To 'Crush' ISIS, Issues Warning To Israel

The president’s statements precede the first official Syrian visit to Turkiye since the fall of Assad’s government

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a speech on 15 January that Turkiye is the “greater power” capable of defeating ISIS terrorism in Syria, while renewing his threats against Kurdish militants and warning Israel of the “results” of its continued expansion across the country.

The speech comes ahead of a visit to Turkiye by a Syrian delegation led by interim Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani and interim Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra. The foreign minister was involved in the founding of Al-Qaeda in Syria, which later became known as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), and the defense minister is accused of several war crimes.

“We will discuss with the Syrian delegation that will visit Turkiye ways to support Syria and rebuild. We will not allow the seeds of discord to be planted between us and the Syrian people,” Erdogan said.

“Israel must immediately end the hostility it is practicing in Syria, otherwise the results that will appear will harm everyone. If the People's Defense Units (YPG), which is plundering natural resources in Syria, does not lay down its weapons, it will bear the consequences,” the Turkish president added.

“Let all forces withdraw their hands from the region and we will be able, with our Syrian brothers, to crush ISIS and the YPG,” he went on to say, adding that “Turkiye is the greater power that has the ability to defeat ISIS.”

Hebrew reports say the delay aims to address a political crisis caused by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s objection to the deal

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on 16 January that his cabinet will not convene to approve the ceasefire deal for Gaza as was scheduled, accusing Hamas of backtracking from the agreement one day after it was announced by Qatar and the US.

“Hamas reneges on parts of the agreement reached with the mediators and Israel in an effort to extort last minute concessions. The Israeli cabinet will not convene until the mediators notify Israel that Hamas has accepted all elements of the agreement,” Netanyahu’s office said in a statement.

In response, Hamas political bureau member Izzat al-Rishq said the resistance movement is “committed” to the ceasefire that was announced on Wednesday.

According to Israel’s Broadcasting Corporation (KAN) and other Israeli outlets, Netanyahu has delayed announcing approval of the deal due to the political crisis caused by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s threats to withdraw from the government in protest against the deal.

Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Smotrich is considering bolting the ruling coalition, and that some members of his party are demanding guarantees from Netanyahu that the war will resume. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir has also stood against the deal.
