Moscow Warns US, UK Preparing 'ISIS Attacks' On Airbases In Syria

Washington has supported ISIS in the past and still uses the group's existence as a pretext to occupy northeast Syria

Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (FIS) warned on 28 December that the US and UK are planning to use ISIS to attack Russian military bases in Syria to further destabilize the country after the fall of the Syrian government.

Russian intelligence confirmed that ISIS field commanders had obtained attack drones to carry out these attacks.

The FIS stressed that President Joe Biden's outgoing government aims to sew chaos in West Asia "to ensure their long-term dominance in the region."

But this is "impeded by the Russian military presence on the Mediterranean coast of Syria, which remains an important factor in regional stability, which necessitated assigning ISIS to carry out the mission," the FIS said.

Russia maintains an air base near the coastal city of Latakia and a naval base near the coastal city of Tartus. The presence of Russian forces in Syria is now in question after the fall of the Syrian government led by Bashar al-Assad, a close Russian ally, on 8 December.

Haaretz: Israelis Must Wage War Against Those Who Sacrifice Hostages For Netanyahu's Continued Rule

Normalizing the issue of the hostages means leaving them for 14 months to be tormented and to die in Hamas' tunnels. It means torpedoing any deal or chance of saving them and bringing them home, loftily proclaiming "our commitment to the hostages" while wearing a yellow ribbon.

This is what Benjamin Netanyahu and his lackeys are doing. Anyone who cooperates with them, kowtows to them, treats them with undue politeness or agrees to be a prop in their manipulations and delay tactics is part of this normalization – even if fate has made them a relative of one of the hostages.

Yizhar Lifshitz is the son of Yocheved Lifshitz, who returned from captivity last November in the first and only hostage deal, and Oded Lifshitz, who has not returned. In an interview with Haaretz published this week, Yizhar said he goes to Knesset committee sessions every week, adding, "there is a normalization of madness. If we're not there … it will be easier for [the politicians] to just keep on like this. Our job is to be a bone in their craw, to keep the issue on the agenda."

Notably, Musk’s SpaceX was allegedly infiltrated by Lutnick’s former next-door neighbor, intelligence asset, pedophile and sexual blackmailer Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein reportedly introduced a member of his “entourage” to Musk’s brother Kimbal, then on the board of SpaceX. That young woman, who had previously “dated” Epstein and lived at the 301 66th St East apartment complex now known to have housed women Epstein trafficked, then dated Kimbal Musk from 2011 to 2012. As a consequence, the relationship with Kimbal “brought Epstein into contact with the Musk family and its businesses.”

This allegedly culminated in Epstein touring SpaceX facilities in 2012, a claim a SpaceX attorney very belatedly denied after the incident was first reported by Business Insider. Kimbal Musk is also on the board of another of his brother’s companies – Tesla – and, prior to his 2019 arrest, Epstein confirmed claims from sources that he was privately advising Tesla in 2018 to journalist James Stewart. After Epstein was infamous, Musk denied the claims. Per Stewart, Epstein was apparently part of the attempted deal to take Tesla private with Saudi money in 2018. Epstein was also a very close advisor at that time to the then and current de facto leader Muhammad bin Salman. Since then, an Epstein associate turned venture capitalist, Nicole Junkermann, has become a significant investor in SpaceX.

In addition, Elon Musk himself was subpoenaed as part of the now-shuttered USVI lawsuit against the bank JP Morgan for its role in facilitating Epstein’s crimes and is known to have socialized with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell on several occasions prior to Epstein’s 2019 arrest and death later that same year. In one such meeting, brokered by LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, Musk was reported to have introduced Epstein to Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook/Meta. LS Power, where Barrett was a top executive, has been investigated “for fraudulent conveyance of assets” in several bankruptcy cases. In addition, LS Power’s founder, Mike Segal – whose son Paul is now the firm’s CEO, did business with the Bufalino crime family. Luminus Management was also the largest shareholder in Valaris, which sold $650 million in oil rigs to Musk’s SpaceX in 2020. Haaretz Title: 'Networks of Poison and Panic': Netanyahu's Attack on the Media Goes Nuclear

Throughout his six non-consecutive days of testimony in his criminal trials, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been defending himself against his charges in Case 4000. According to the indictment, Netanyahu struck a deal with a media mogul to give his company regulatory benefits in exchange for positive coverage on the Walla news website.

The prime minister strongly denies this, saying that there is no deal – he'd just talked to Bezeq controlling shareholder Shaul Elovitch a few times about tweaking Walla to line up with the latter's own right-wing ideals.

This push, he claimed, came from his own sense of liberalism and the free marketplace of ideas. The Israeli media machine is infested with leftists and doesn't reflect the public's views, he claimed; Elovitch should have made personnel changes in the name of diversifying the national discourse and, apparently, the existential threats facing the country. Netanyahu further claimed that even when the quid pro quo would have been in place, the website was hostile toward him and his family.

Those arguments broke free from the courtroom on Thursday, with a four-minute video posted by the prime minister to social media. In it, he says that the allegations in his indictment are falling apart each day in court, but that's not the concern here – that would be his "enemies on the left and in the media."

This speech seemed to be inspired by "Uvda," an investigative news program hosted by journalist Ilana Dayan (no relation), which last week delved into how Sara Netanyahu directed attacks against perceived threats toward the first family – even if they were the attorney general, the prosecutor in the prime minister's criminal case, or bereaved families. But Netanyahu made it very clear that the program's sins are shared by the entire media ecosystem.
He decried the "networks of poison and panic" that spread fake news. "What happens on these poisonous channels is daily, hourly incitement against the right wing, against the Haredi community, against the settlers – that is the real poison machine."...

At the end of the video, he nonchalantly offers a suggestion to the media: "Enough. Get over it. The nation is smart, and it's tired of you. It doesn't believe your lies anymore."

What Has Been Revealed This Week About President Herzog's Interference In The Corruption Investigation Against Netanyahu Is Enough To Disqualify Him From Dealing With The PM's Legal Affairs, And He Must Say So Publicly | Haaretz Editorial

Israel's Tainted President Does Not Have the Authority to Pardon Netanyahu

President Isaac Herzog was asked two weeks ago... about being asked to pardon Benjamin Netanyahu should the prime minister be convicted in his corruption trial...

But Gidi Weitz's scoop about Herzog's eyebrow-raising interference in the investigations against Netanyahu ought to prevent him from dealing with this issue if he is asked. Weitz revealed that in 2017, while serving as leader of the opposition, Herzog paid a surprise visit to the home of the key witness in the lavish gifts case, Hadas Klein, who at that time was businessman Arnon Milchan's top aide.

Netanyahu and his wife received numerous gifts from Milchan.. Herzog asked Klein to safely stash away his own and her cellphones and then shared a secret with her: I know Netanyahu's version, he said; he claims that you forced him to accept those gifts. According to a source familiar with the details of the meeting, Klein felt that Herzog had come to her home not to help her, but rather to help Netanyahu – "to play with my head," a legal source quoted her as saying.

According to Weitz's report, Herzog also had a close relationship with Milchan and even made use of his deep pockets to pay a key political aide and another man.

... this revelation puts Herzog in a new, crystal-clear situation: He is tainted by involvement in this case, both because of his ties with Milchan, who provided him with benefits, and because he decided to meet with Klein and speak with her about the Netanyahu investigation.

Because he is tainted, Herzog must recuse himself from any future involvement in potentially granting a pardon to Netanyahu. Herzog and Netanyahu weren't just political rivals; for years, they had a friendly relationship. They spent time with and enjoyed the company of the same tycoon, and Netanyahu even supported Herzog's candidacy for president, even though Herzog is from the left (the same left that Netanyahu vilifies nonstop, including on the witness stand).

What has been revealed is enough to disqualify Herzog from dealing with Netanyahu's legal affairs, and he must say so publicly.

Haaretz: The Israeli Media Isn't Ignorant About Gaza. It Just Doesn't Care — In This War, Morality Isn't Part Of The Israeli Discourse

The New York Times exposé released on Thursday uncovered what the Israeli media failed to uncover. Not because it couldn't, but because it didn't try. Why should it?

The New York Times tried, and succeeded. Apparently Israel loosened the military rules and safeguards meant to protect noncombatants in Gaza, allowing officers to endanger a large number of Palestinians in air strikes. Israel at times refrained from checking strikes on civilians and didn't punish officers for their mistakes.

Also, Israel expanded the list of military targets, increasing the risk of mass killing innocent civilians. In certain cases officers authorized strikes on Hamas leaders knowing it would endanger the lives of hundreds of civilians. The rate of assaults and unreliable technologies operated did not enable the army to distinguish among the human targets: infant, woman or Hamas man. I wonder if the media that doesn't try (and hence doesn't succeed) will publicize this exposé.
