Saudi Arabia Says OPEC+ Cuts Can 'Absolutely' Stretch Into 2024
The bloc of oil-producing giants has maintained oil production cuts for nearly a year and a half to stem the damage caused to energy markets by western sanctions on Russia
Massive oil production cuts implemented by the OPEC+ group of nations can “absolutely” stretch past the first quarter of 2024, according to Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman.
His comments come less than a week after the bloc of oil-producing giants held a virtual meeting in which they unanimously agreed to voluntary output cuts totaling about 2.2 million barrels per day (bpd)
“I honestly believe that 2.2 million will overcome even the usual inventory build that usually happens in the first quarter. There are already signs that demand is improving," the Saudi official told Bloomberg in an interview in Riyadh on Monday.
The cuts for the first half of 2024 are set at 2.2 million barrels daily, equal to about 2 percent of global supply. Currently, the OPEC+ output equals some 43 million bpd, which already reflects cuts of about 5 million bpd to stabilize the market.

55% of Republicans said that declining fertility is a negative sign for the nation — more than double the percentage of Democrats (27%), according to the ninth annual American Family Survey.
Conversely, Democrats were more than twice as likely as Republicans to view declining fertility as a positive sign for the nation (32% vs. 15%).

Nevada - Las Vegas Shooting Suspect Dead, At Least 3 Injured At Unlv, Police Say —
Las Vegas police on Wednesday said there appear to be multiple victims in a shooting on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus. Police said the suspect was dead.
"The suspect has been located and is deceased," the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department wrote on social media, after earlier saying, "The suspect is contained. This is an active investigation. Please continue to avoid the area and watch for responding emergency units."
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill said Wednesday afternoon that there were at least three victims and that the number could change.
"Right now, we know there are 3 victims, but unknown extent of the injuries. That number could change. We will update you when we know more," McMahill wrote on social media.
The university asked people to continue to shelter in place as police evacuated buildings one at a time. "Police Services continues to respond and clear buildings systematically," the university wrote on social media
Texas - 6 Killed And 3 Injured In A Series Of Attacks Across 2 Texas Communities, Police Say
"Six people were found dead and three injured after a string of homicides and shootings unfolded across two Texas communities on Tuesday, and a suspect was taken into custody and charged with capital murder, police said.
Four people were killed and two police officers shot in Austin on Tuesday, authorities said. The suspect was also linked to the deaths of two people near San Antonio, they added.
The suspect was identified by police Wednesday as Shane James, Jr., and the two victims in San Antonio were identified as his parents."

Stock Market Bets Suggest Foreknowledge Of 7 October Attack
Unusual short selling activity allowed investors to profit from the Hamas attack on Israel, just as investors profited by placing unusual bets before the 9/11 attacks
Unknown investors placed unusually large bets anticipating a drop in Israel’s stock market just days before 7 October, indicating foreknowledge of the surprise Hamas attack many now view as “Israel’s 9/11,” a new report from two prominent US legal scholars shows.
Robert J. Jackson, Jr. of New York University and Joshua Mitts of Columbia University issued a report on 3 December documenting a significant spike in short selling in the principal Israeli-company ETF days before 7 October.
Short selling allows investors to sell shares borrowed from other investors, in hopes of repurchasing the shares at lower price in the future. The investor then returns the borrowed shares and profits from the difference in price.
The report states that, “days before the attack, traders appeared to anticipate the events to come: on October 2, short interest in the MSCI Israel Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) suddenly, and significantly, spiked. And just before the attack, short selling of Israeli securities on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange increased dramatically.”
The report states further that, “The short selling that day far exceeded the short selling that occurred during numerous other periods of crisis, including the recession following the financial crisis, the 2014 Israel-Gaza war, and the COVID19 pandemic.”
The report’s findings suggest the traders placing these bets were informed about the coming attacks and successfully profited from them.
“For one Israeli company alone, 4.43 million new shares sold short over the September 14 to October 5 period yielded profits (or approximates avoided losses) of 3.2 billion NIS (roughly $860 million) on that additional short selling,” the report explained further.
Although the scholars observed no increase in shorting of Israeli companies on US stock exchanges, they did identify “a sharp and unusual increase, just before the attacks, in trading in risky short-dated options on these companies expiring just after the attacks.”...
Many analysts have struggled to explain how Israel’s vaunted intelligence services failed to predict the surprise Hamas attack, in which 1,200 Israelis were killed and 240 taken captive to Gaza.
Many suggest that the decision to launch the attack was a tightly guarded secret, and that the leader of Hamas’ military wing, Mohammad Deif, did not notify even members of the Hamas political bureau living outside Gaza...
Similar activity in the options markets before 11 September 2001 suggests investor foreknowledge of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and Pentagon in Washington, D.C. as well.
Much of the attention focused on the trading in the days leading up to 11 September in options written on American Airlines (AMR) and United Airlines (UAL), the two companies whose planes were hijacked and crashed by the terrorists.
University of Chicago finance professor George Constantinides said that the option market trading to profit from a fall in the stock price of both AMR and UAL was “so striking that it’s hard to attribute it to chance. So something is definitely going on.”

Bill Gates, UAE Sign Nuclear Development Deal
The UAE, in its search for more green energy investments, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bill Gate's TerraPower LLC company at the COP28 climate conference
Bill Gate’s nuclear company, TerraPower LLC, and the UAE state-owned Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) announced an agreement on 4 December to study the potential development of advanced nuclear reactors in the UAE and abroad.
The memorandum of understanding signed by both parties comes as the UAE announced during the COP28 climate conference in Dubai that it wants to develop its nuclear energy capability.
“For the UAE, we're looking for a future for the clean electrons and molecules that will be brought to reality by advanced reactors,” said CEO of ENEC, Mohamed al-Hammadi, at the signing ceremony.
TerraPower President and CEO Chris Levesque stated that "bringing advanced nuclear technologies to market is critical to meeting global decarbonization targets."
The BBC disclosed on 27 November that Abu Dhabi also wanted to pursue bilateral oil agreements with foreign governments at the upcoming COP28 climate summit.

Senate Votes Down Resolution to Withdraw Troops from Syria
The bill was led by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and failed in a vote of 13-84
The Senate on Thursday voted down a resolution that would have directed President Biden to withdraw all US troops from Syria, where US forces have come under frequent attack in response to President Biden’s support for Israel’s Gaza onslaught.
The bill failed in a vote of 13-84 and received support from seven Democrats, five Republicans, and one Independent, Sen. Bernie Sanders (VT). The resolution was introduced by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who argued the US occupation of eastern Syria risks a major regional war.
“Keeping 900 US troops in Syria does nothing to advance American security. Rather, our intervention puts those servicemembers at grave risk by providing an enticing target for Iranian-backed militias,” Paul said.
“Our continued presence risks the United States getting dragged into yet another regional war in the Middle East without debate or a vote by the people’s representatives in Congress. Congress must cease abdicating its constitutional war powers to the executive branch,” he added.
