Israeli Army Sets Fire To North Gaza's Last Functioning Hospital

Troops evicted staff and patients at gunpoint and forced them to strip down to their underwear in the freezing cold

Israeli forces stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza on 27 December, evacuating people at gunpoint and setting the facility ablaze after brutal attacks on the hospital’s vicinity.

At least 50 people have been killed around the besieged medical facility since Thursday evening.

“The storming of Kamal Adwan Hospital … by the criminal Zionist occupation, and forcing the medical staff, patients, wounded and displaced persons inside it to leave at gunpoint, after the intensification of the barbaric shelling of the hospital’s surroundings last night, which led to the martyrdom of more than 50 people, including five medical staff; is a war crime,” a Hamas statement said.

Plumes of smoke were seen rising out of the hospital early on Thursday as a result of the Israeli arson attack inside the facility.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israeli troops ordered patients and medical staff to take off their clothing and forced them out of the hospital in the extremely cold weather. Some were told to evacuate to the nearby Indonesian Hospital, which is also under Israeli siege and attack.

Clashes Erupt In Western Syria After Locals Ambush HTS Fighters

The ambush was reportedly carried out by former elements of the Syrian Arab Army, coming during an eruption of sectarian tensions across Syria

Clashes raged in Syria on 26 December between the remnants of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the currently-ruling Hayat Tahrir-Sham (HTS) extremist group several hours after over a dozen HTS militants were killed in the western Tartous governorate.

Footage captured by a local woman from her home offers a close-up view of the chaos, showing militants exchanging fire directly below…

Violent armed clashes were recorded by citizens in Tartous on Thursday. Video footage also showed positions of the SAA’s 25th Division stationed in the Latakia mountains in western Syria.

A newly released video from the 25th Special Forces Division, also known as the “Tiger Forces,” shows resistance fighters in the mountainous areas of Latakia. In the video, they pledge to continue their fight against Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)

HTS-led authorities announced on Thursday that they confiscated weapons belonging to former government soldiers in the Damascus countryside. HTS’s Military Operations Administration has launched a security operation to confiscate SAA weapons and arrest “those who incite” sedition, according to a source from Syria’s new Ministry of Interior cited by Al-Watan newspaper.

HTS Names UN-Designated 'Terrorist' As Syria's New Intelligence Chief [He's Al Nusra Co-Founder]

Former Al-Qaeda commanders make up the bulk of new authorities named by Syria's western-backed 'transitional government'

On 26 December, Syria's de facto authorities appointed former Al-Qaeda commander and Nusra Front co-founder Anas Hassan Khattab as the head of the country's general intelligence agency.

Khattab, also known as Abu Ahmed Hudood, was blacklisted as a “terrorist” by the UN Security Council in September 2014 for his close association with Al-Qaeda.

According to the listing, for several years, he was involved “in the financing, planning, facilitating, preparing, or perpetrating of acts or activities by, in conjunction with, under the name of, on behalf of, or in support of” and “otherwise supporting acts or activities of” the Nusra Front. This Al-Qaeda offshoot was rebranded as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in 2017.

Khattab served as the administrative emir of the Nusra Front as of early 2014 and was part of its shura council by mid-2013. He was also tasked with selecting personal bodyguards for HTS leader and Syria's de facto ruler Abu Mohammad al-Julani, who dropped his nom de guerre earlier this month and now goes by his real name, Ahmad al-Sharaa.

In recent years, Khattab oversaw general security operations in Idlib. His involvement in intelligence gathering dates back to the period when HTS consolidated control over northern Syria with Turkish support; during this time, he managed surveillance of covert networks along the borders of HTS-controlled areas.

New Damascus Governor Declares 'Our Problem Not With Israel' As Tel Aviv Expands Occupation Of South Syria

The HTS-appointed official said Syria wants ‘peace’ and ‘cannot be an opponent’ to Israel while downplaying Israeli attacks and occupation

The new governor of Syria’s capital, Damascus, Maher Marwan, said in an interview released on 27 December that the country's new authorities are looking to establish cordial ties with Israel, and do not want to “threaten” its “security” in any way.

“Israel may have felt fear. So, it advanced a little, bombed a little, etcetera,” Maher told US-based news outlet NPR in an interview, downplaying the massive and unprecedented bombing campaign and army incursion launched by Israel in Syria after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government.

This fear was “natural,” Marwan added. “We have no fear towards Israel, and our problem is not with Israel,” he went on to say in a message relayed on behalf of Syria’s new government.

“And we don't want to meddle in anything that will threaten Israel's security or any other country's security. There exist a people who want coexistence. They want peace. They don't want disputes,” the governor told NPR. “We want peace, and we cannot be an opponent to Israel or an opponent to anyone.”

Marwan was not the first member of Syria’s new administration led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) to openly declare a lack of animosity towards Israel.

Ankara Will Have A Hand In Drafting Syria's New Constitution: Erdogan

Turkiye has expanded its attacks against US-backed Kurds in Syria and has deployed its proxies against them

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on 20 December that Ankara has begun contacts with Syria's new leadership to discuss drafting a new constitution for the country, after the fall of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad’s government earlier this month.

“Our brothers and sisters in Syria will make their own decisions about their future,” the Turkish president said on Friday.

“We will try to help them with what the government structure should be and we will help the Syrian administration with how to transfer our experience there and how we can revive the state,” he added. “One of the most important steps in restoring the state is establishing a constitution, and in this regard, we have already begun communicating with representatives of the new Syrian administration.”

Erdogan confirmed that the head of Turkish intelligence is discussing the issue with authorities in Syria.

Turkish-backed extremist groups, including Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and Ankara’s proxy, the Syrian National Army (SNA), stormed Damascus on 8 December after an 11-day shock offensive that resulted in the collapse of the Syrian army.

The whole “We have to be in Syria to fight ISIS” (and that is why we are plundering the country’s exhaustible natural resources as the people live in poverty the US has largely contributed to, and still does through sanctions) is a bit convenient given that a 2012 intelligence report from the DOD reveals that the US *checks notes* predicted that funding the US funding the opposition to Assad, whom the report acknowledged was largely composed of *checks notes* Jihadi extremists including Al-Qaeda, would likely lead to an Islamic state, which “the supporting powers to the opposition”, identifed as the US, Turkey, and the Gulf nations, WANT….

And why did the US, Turkey, and Gulf nations want an Islamic to rise? To “isolate the Assad regime”… You can’t make this shit up.

Project Stargate ... The classified project was conducted at Fort Meade in Maryland, recruiting men and women who claimed to have extrasensory perception (ESP) to help uncover military and domestic intelligence secrets.

The subject was asked to focus their attention on '40.89 degrees north, 9.55 degrees west.'

'It sort of looks... I kind of got an oblique view of a ah... pyramid or pyramid form,' the subject said.

They continued to describe the structure as okra-colored, a hue ranging from yellow to deep orange and brown.

The subject then observed shadows of 'very tall, thin' people wearing strange clothing.

The administrator prompted the subject to remain in that time period but move to another location in space.

The landscape featured a very long road with what appeared to be the Washington Monument at the end.

'It's like an... obelisk,' the subject said before being asked to move to different locations until they saw people again.

The subject moved to a place where a violent storm was ripping through Mars, and people were using the giant pyramids for shelter.

'Different chambers... but they're almost stripped of any kind of... furnishing or anything. It's like ah... strictly functional, a place for sleeping—or that's not a good word—hibernation, some form,' the subject said.

The administrator asked the subject to describe who was sleeping through the storms.

'Very... tall again, very large... people, but they're thin. They look that way because of their height, and they dress like in, oh hell, it's like a real light silk, but it's not flowing type of clothing. It's like cut to fit,' they explained.

The subject told the administrator that these were ancient people who were dying.

'It's past their time or age,' the subject said. 'They're very philosophic about it. They're looking for ah... a way to survive, and they just can't.'

The subject appeared concerned for the ancient people, saying they were looking for a way out or waiting for something to return.

'It's like I'm getting all kinds of overwhelming input of the... corruption of their environment,' the subject said.

'It's failing very rapidly, and this group went somewhere, like a long way, to find another place to live.'

Top US Diplomats Talk 'Vision' For Syria With Ex-Al-Qaeda Chief

Envoys from the White House also informed Syria's de facto new ruler that Washington will not continue to offer a $10 million reward for his capture

The leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and former commander of Al-Qaeda and ISIS, Ahmad al-Sharaa, held a meeting with a senior US diplomatic delegation in Damascus on 20 December.

US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf led the delegation along with Daniel Rubenstein, who is leading Washington's efforts in Syria. The two became the first US diplomats to travel to Damascus since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government earlier this month.

“The meeting took place and was positive, and positive results will emerge from it,” AFP cited an official from Syria’s new government as saying.

During the meeting, Leaf reportedly informed Sharaa – who recently dropped his nom de guerre Abu Mohammad al-Julani – that Washington will not continue to offer a $10 million reward for his capture under terrorism charges. Furthermore, officials said Sharaa “assured” them that Iran “will have no role in Syria's political future.”

According to a spokesperson for the US embassy in Damascus, a press conference was scheduled after the meeting but canceled for “security reasons.”

Earlier on Friday, the State Department said officials from the outgoing government of US President Joe Biden will discuss with HTS leadership their “vision” for the future of Syria and their support for a transitional process incorporating inclusivity and respect for minority rights...

The HTS extremist group, formerly known as Al-Qaeda’s Nusra Front, has set up a transitional authority under the premiership of Mohammad Bashir. The new government in Syria has publicly promised that the rights of people from all sects and minority groups will be respected. Yet, incidents involving attacks on ethnic minorities and vandalism of holy sites have already begun.

More than three months after learning of their loved one's killing, the family of Turkish-American activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi – fatally shot by Israeli troops at a West Bank protest – still has limited information on the circumstances of her death. And they say they're receiving very little assistance from the U.S. government on the matter.

Eygi, 26, was shot in the head following the weekly protest at the West Bank Palestinian village of Beita near the Israeli settlement of Evyatar. According to the Israeli military's initial findings, the soldiers probably did not mean to shoot Eygi, but activists present at the incident say she was shot nearly half an hour after clashes between soldiers and protesters dissipated.

In a packed week of meetings last week, the Eygi family finally got face time with outgoing U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and met with 15 U.S. lawmakers and their staff on Capitol Hill in their bid to secure justice for their slain loved one.

"All this effort we're doing is to obtain something, or to even begin something, that is very basic – really the bare minimum. It shouldn't really take this much effort," says Hamid Ali, Eygi's husband.

"There's a precedent for it. Merrick Garland himself – the attorney general of the United States – has said 'we investigate every American death.' It is not something exceptional that we're asking for. This is very minimal."

US-Backed Kurds Express Readiness To Join 'New Syrian Army' Under HTS Rule

Heavy clashes between the SDF and Turkish-backed militants east of Aleppo have killed over 130 people in the past two weeks

The commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, says the US-backed Kurdish militia has been closely coordinating with the de facto authorities in Damascus and is ready to integrate into the new Syrian army once a “suitable formula” is negotiated.

“Future Syria must have a single national army that defends the country and Syrian citizens. This is indisputable. The weapons of the Syrian Democratic Forces will be the weapons of this national army, integrated into it with all its experience and strength. For this to happen, direct discussions are needed to reach a suitable formula for implementing this matter,” Abdi told the Saudi daily Asharq al-Awsat on 27 December.

The Kurdish military commander also revealed that field coordination between the SDF and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) began on “the second day” of an offensive that ended with the ousting of president Bashar al-Assad.

“We haven't yet reached direct negotiations with HTS, but we believe Syria should be a decentralized, pluralistic, democratic state where the country's diverse identity and the rights of all Syrian components, including the Kurdish people, are constitutionally protected,” Abdi said.

Abdi also spoke about the ongoing clashes between the SDF and the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) near Tishreen Dam, which have killed at least 136 people over the past two weeks.

The Attack On Kamal Adwan Marks The Culmination Of A Three-Month Campaign Of Ethnic Cleansing And Destruction In The Northern City Of Beit Lahiya.

In the morning hours of Dec. 27, Israeli army forces stormed the Kamal Adwan Hospital compound in Beit Lahiya, culminating a nearly week-long siege of the last functioning hospital in northern Gaza.

Soldiers forcibly moved patients out of Kamal Adwan to the Indonesian Hospital further south in the city, which had itself been subjected to an evacuation order by the military several days earlier.

“Surgical departments, laboratory, maintenance, and emergency units have been completely burned, and the fire is now spreading,” a statement released by the hospital staff read, warning that patients are “at risk of dying at any moment.” Hospital Director Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya told Palestinian media that he received a “clear and direct warning” from the army that he would be arrested.

In a statement, the Israeli army claimed it was operating inside the hospital “following prior intelligence about the presence of militants, terrorist infrastructure, and terrorist activity at the site,” and was “allowing patients and staff at the hospital to evacuate the area in an orderly manner.”

On Thursday, an Israeli airstrike on a building in the vicinity of Kamal Adwan reportedly killed 50 people. Among them were five hospital staffers, according to Dr. Abu Safiya, who spoke with +972 on two occasions this week.

“We need the world to understand that this hospital is being deliberately targeted. The people here are not just patients — they are victims of a systematic attempt to destroy our capacity to save lives,” he told +972 on Dec. 23.

BBC Staffers Reveal Editor's 'Entire Job' To Whitewash Israeli War Crimes

News editor Raffi Berg reportedly controls online coverage of genocide in Gaza to ensure Israeli crimes are 'watered down' or ignored

BBC editor Raffi Berg has almost complete control of the British broadcaster's online coverage of Israel's war on Gaza and is ensuring that all events are reported with a pro-Israel bias, according to a new report published on 28 December by Drop Site News.

"This guy's entire job is to water down everything that's too critical of Israel," one former BBC journalist said.

Drop Site News spoke to 13 current and former staffers who stated that the BBC's coverage consistently devalues Palestinian life, ignores Israeli atrocities, and creates a false equivalence in an entirely unbalanced conflict.

Another BBC journalist said Berg plays a key role in a broader BBC culture of "systematic Israeli propaganda."

"How much power he has is wild," said another journalist.

"There was an extreme fear at the BBC, that if you ever wanted to do anything about Israel or Palestine, editors would say: 'If you want to pitch something, you have to go through Raffi and get his signoff," another journalist explained.

In one case, Berg downplayed Amnesty International's accusation that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.

Berg chose a headline that stated, "Israel rejects 'fabricated' claims of genocide," to describe the Amnesty report and failed to post the story for 12 hours after it was written to suppress its online reach.

The journalists interviewed by Drop Site also noted that the Amnesty report was not covered on the BBC's flagship news programs—BBC One's News At One, News At Six, or News At Ten or its flagship current affairs program, BBC Two's Newsnight.

"Anyone who writes on Gaza or Israel is asked: 'Has it gone to edpol [editorial policy], lawyers, and has it gone to Raffi?'" another journalist said.

Raffi Berg, who wrote a book praising clandestine Mossad operations, wields great power to influence perceptions of Israel's war on Gaza because the BBC news website is the most-visited news site on the internet, with over 1.1 billion visits in May alone.
