A video shows the Israeli army abducting and harassing a Palestinian youth in the town of Beita, in the occupied West Bank.

Today, Israeli settler gangs attacked Palestinian homes and farmers on the outskirts of the town of Burqa, east of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, under the protection of Israeli forces. Israeli forces then proceeded to storm the town.

❗️According to sources who spoke to Al-Akhbar UN Special Representative for Iraq, Mohammed Al-Hassan, visited Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Ali Sistani, to request him to issue a fatwa (an Islamic legal ruling) to dismantle the PMU. Sistani reportedly refused to receive him.

The Iraqi government has received multiple requests from international and regional parties to dissolve the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) and hand over their weapons to the state.

The PMU have said that they will not disarm until the complete withdrawal of US forces from Iraqi soil.

In the aftermath of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, the PMU participated in operations against Israeli and US military targets, under the name of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq.

The PMU was formed in 2014 after the Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Ali Sistani issued a fatwa calling on Iraqis to volunteer alongside the Iraqi army against ISIS militants who had taken over nearly the entire country and were projected to take Baghdad if left unhindered.

Former Al-Qaeda In Syria Founder Named As Caretaker Foreign Minister

Members of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham continue to fill posts in Syria's new caretaker government after the fall of Bashar al-Assad

The General Command of the Armed Opposition Factions in Syria has appointed Asaad Hassan al-Shibani, a founding member of Al-Qaeda in Syria, as the country's new caretaker foreign minister.

The official Syrian news agency (SANA) reported on 21 December that Shibani, a 37-year-old graduate of Damascus University, was chosen to fill the post. He previously led the political department of the National Salvation Government, which has ruled Syria's northwestern governorate of Idlib since Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) conquered it in 2015.

HTS, led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, launched an assault from Idlib on 27 November and quickly toppled the cities of Aleppo, Hama, and Homs. HTS militants entered Damascus, toppled the government of Bashar al-Assad, and seized power in Syria on 8 December.

Sharaa, also known as Abu Mohammad al-Julani, is the former leader of Al-Qaeda in Syria, previously known as the Nusra Front.

According to the opposition Syria TV, which broadcasts from Istanbul, Foreign Minister Shibani was previously known as Zaid al-Attar. He was in charge of the foreign relations file and oversaw the transformation of the Nusra Front into HTS.

Netanyahu Aide Altered Official Records To Allege Earlier Response From PM to 7 Oct Attack: Report

In the 6:40 am phone call with his military secretary, Netanyahu discussed the possibility of 'kidnappings' by Hamas

Israeli TV has broadcast parts of a phone call between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and then-military secretary Maj. Gen. Avi Gil that took place during the first minutes of Hamas' 7 October attack. The time stamp for the call was later altered by Netanyahu's chief of staff to suggest an earlier response by the Prime Minister to the threat.

During the conversation, which took place at 6:40 A.M. on 7 October 2023, Netanyahu asked Gil whether the Hamas attack could potentially involve "kidnappings." Gil responded, "That's what we think."...

Netanyahu told Gil, "We need to see if we can take out their leadership immediately, if there's something available… Take them out from Sinwar and down."

"We're trying to understand what's happening. Yamam (the police's elite counter-terrorism unit) has been deployed to [the Gaza border community of] Netiv HaAsara, and the Gaza Division is now transitioning to emergency [status]," Gil told Netanyahu, adding that "There's no doubt we're dealing with something different here."

"We're in a broad operation," he continued, asking Netanyahu "for 15 minutes" to check "if there are any foot infiltrations" into Israeli border communities.

Netanyahu questioned why the attack erupted, saying, "We have no indication. I don't see anything in the [provided] intelligence." Gil then said, "We have nothing. We'll need to address these questions later, like how they surprised us."

Netanyahu then said, "The first thing we need to see is the scale of the attack and decide if we need to mobilize reserves. We need to gather at the General Staff as soon as possible."

Though not mentioned in the call, the Israeli Air Force was first dispatched to respond to the attack. The Israeli military also issued the “Hannibal Directive,” instructing its forces to kill Israeli soldiers and civilians if needed to prevent them being taken captive...

Israeli authorities are now investigating whether the Prime Minister's Office chief of staff, Tzachi Braverman, sought to alter the timestamp of this conversation in the official records.

Braverman allegedly changed the timestamp from 6:40 A.M. to 6:29 A.M. to create the impression that Netanyahu had already issued instructions on the unfolding security situation...

Military secretary Gil later noticed the alteration and reported it to Israel's Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara...

Israeli troops captured more Syrian land and the defense minister says they will continue to occupy it through the winter

The plan will spend $11 million to encourage the expansion of illegal settlements in the Golan Heights. The territory is currently populated by about 31,000 Jewish settlers and 24,000 mainly Druze Arabs, who consider themselves Syrian.

“Strengthening the Golan is strengthening the State of Israel, and it is especially important at this time,” Netanyahu said in a statement. “We will continue to hold onto it, cause it to blossom, and settle in it.”

Israel first captured the Golan Heights from Syria in 1967 and declared its sovereignty over the land in 1981, a move not recognized by any country until the Trump administration did so in 2019.

Since Assad fled Syria and the al-Qaeda-linked HTS took over Damascus, Israel has launched hundreds of airstrikes in Syria and has taken control of a buffer zone that separated the occupied Golan Heights and the rest of Syria. Israeli troops have also invaded territory on the other side of the buffer zone and are reportedly only 15 kilometers from Damascus.

The plan to expand settlements in the Golan Heights applies only to the territory Israel controlled before Assad’s downfall, but there are signs that Israel could eventually settle the land it recently seized, which settler groups already have their eye on.

Mitt Romney’s AI Bill Seeks To Ban Anonymous Cloud Access, Raising Privacy Concerns

A new Senate bill, the Preserving American Dominance in AI Act of 2024 (S.5616), has reignited debate over its provisions, particularly its push to impose “know-your-customer” (KYC) rules on cloud service providers and data centers. Critics warn that these measures could lead to sweeping surveillance practices and unprecedented invasions of privacy under the guise of regulating artificial intelligence.

KYC regulations require businesses to verify the identities of their users, and when applied to digital platforms, they could significantly impact privacy by linking individuals’ online activities to their real-world identities, effectively eliminating anonymity and enabling intrusive surveillance.

The legislation, spearheaded by outgoing Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) and co-sponsored by a bipartisan group of lawmakers, seeks to establish an AI oversight office within the Department of Commerce...

Less concerningly, data centers training sophisticated AI models would also be mandated to disclose their ownership and facility locations to the Commerce Department’s AI office.

Supporters claim these measures are essential for addressing potential risks posed by frontier AI models and ensuring national security. ...

The KYC provision, modeled on financial-sector regulations, would force cloud and infrastructure providers to implement identity verification systems, effectively turning these companies into de facto surveillance agents for the government. This could set a new precedent, where private companies are conscripted to monitor user activity.

Noncompliance with the legislation, should it pass, carries severe penalties, including fines of up to $1 million per day or imprisonment for up to 10 years. Such punitive measures could disproportionately affect smaller developers and startups who are unable to navigate the bureaucratic hurdles imposed by the KYC requirements.

US Navy Shoots Down Its Own Jet During Latest Aggression On Yemen

US, UK, and Israeli raids have not deterred Yemeni operations in support of Gaza, which include several successful strikes inside Israel with hypersonic ballistic missiles

US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed during the early hours of 21 December that one of its warships in the Red Sea “mistakenly” shot down an F/A-18 jet that took part in the latest US-UK aggression on Yemen.

“The guided-missile cruiser USS Gettysburg, which is part of the USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, mistakenly fired on and hit the F/A-18, which was flying off the USS Harry S. Truman,” CENTCOM said in a statement.

Both pilots were reportedly recovered alive.

The friendly fire incident took place right after Washington and London conducted a new round of violent airstrikes on the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, and the port city of Hodeidah in support of Israel and its ethnic cleansing campaign in Gaza.

The missiles that targeted the capital were highly explosive, and focused on Mount Nuqum, Mount Attan, and the Al-Ardi complex.

CENTCOM claimed the attacks targeted “a missile storage facility and a command-and-control facility operated by Iran-backed Houthis,” as well as “multiple Houthi one-way attack uncrewed aerial vehicles (OWA UAV) and an anti-ship cruise missile (ASCM) over the Red Sea.”

New Fossil Suggests Humans Didn't Originate in Africa — New Findings Suggest Published in Nature Communications

For decades, common scientific knowledge has held that homo sapiens—human beings as we know them today—evolved in Africa some 200,000 years ago. But a new fossil discovery in another part of the world seemingly flips that notion on its head.

Scientists recently identified a new fossil ape, which they named Anadoluvius turkae, at an 8.7 million-year-old site near Çankırı in northern Turkey. The findings were first published in the Nature Communications Biology journal as research into this possible ancestor is ongoing.

The research, study co-author David Begun said, "suggest[s] that hominins not only evolved in western and central Europe but spent over five million years evolving there and spreading to the eastern Mediterranean before eventually dispersing into Africa, probably as a consequence of changing environments and diminishing forests."

Anadoluvius is believed to have been the size of a large male chimpanzee and weighed between 110 and 130 pounds. For comparison, an average female gorilla is around the same size and usually weighs between 165 and 175 pounds. In studying the fossil, the team found that Anadoluvius might have lived in a dry forest environment and not been a tree-swinging primate like some of its genetic relatives.

"We have no limb bones but judging from its jaws and teeth, the animals found alongside it, and the geological indicators of the environment, Anadoluvius probably lived in relatively open conditions, unlike the forest settings of living great apes. More like what we think the environments of early humans in Africa were like," study lead author Sevim Erol said, per Earth.com.
