Israeli army forces stormed a school housing displaced Palestinians in northern Gaza on 15 December, opening fire and killing at least 40 civilians, while forcing dozens to flee.
All the men who were sheltering in the Khalil Oweida school in Beit Hanoun were abducted, while the rest were forced to evacuate at gunpoint. Several others were injured in the attack on the school.
According to WAFA news agency, the displaced women and children were forced to head to an Israeli checkpoint on the Salah al-Din axis leading to Gaza City.
Anadolu Agency (AA) reported, citing eyewitnesses, that the bodies of the victims were spread out across the Khalil Oweida schoolyard and nearby streets.

According to the report, which sites Palestinian and US officials, PA President Mahmoud Abbas has ordered his security services to “take control” of the Jenin refugee camp, where resistance factions – most prominently the Jenin Brigade of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) movement’s Quds Brigades – have a strong presence.
After some of the security officials expressed “reservations” about the anti-resistance operation, Abbas declared that “whoever disobeys his order” would be sacked.
The PA president briefed Washington and advisors of President-elect Donald Trump on the Jenin operation, the report adds.
Axios also reported that US Security Coordinator Mike Fenzel met with PA security chiefs and reviewed their plans before the operation against Jenin camp was launched.

Israeli Defense Minister Says Israeli Military Will Occupy Gaza After War
The comments from Israel Katz come amid reports that say Israel and Hamas are close to a hostage deal that will involve a temporary ceasefire
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Tuesday that the Israeli military will occupy Gaza like it does the West Bank even after the genocidal war in the Strip comes to an end.
“After we defeat Hamas’ military and governmental power in Gaza, Israel will have security control over Gaza with full freedom of action, just as it did in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank),” Katz wrote on X.
Katz’s comments come amid reports that Israel and Hamas are close to a hostage deal that would involve a temporary ceasefire. However, on Tuesday, Israeli officials told Axios that significant gaps remain and an agreement is not imminent despite optimistic statements.
Hamas reportedly conceded not to seek an Israeli military withdrawal as part of the deal, but Hamas officials are saying their proposal involved a gradual end to the Israeli military presence, meaning Katz’s comments could sabotage negotiations.
According to Middle East Eye , Israeli media reported that Israel plans to keep troops in place in Gaza to prevent displaced Palestinians from returning to northern Gaza, where the IDF has been carrying out an ethnic cleansing plan known as the “General’s Plan.”

According to the Times of Israel, The Israeli army has confirmed that a group of settlers crossed into Lebanon earlier this month near the southern Lebanese village of Maroun al-Ras.
Initially, the army reported that the settlers had set up a camp near an Israeli border community and were dispersed by soldiers because the area was designated as a closed military zone.
Following further investigation, the military stated that the activists had crossed the Blue Line by several meters before being identified and dispersed by Israeli troops.
“Any attempt to approach or cross the border into Lebanese territory without coordination endangers one’s life and harms the IDF’s ability to operate in the area and fulfill its mission,” the army said.
An Israeli military source said entry points along Israel’s border with Lebanon have been blocked recently, and troops were briefed on handling civilians near the border.

A push is underway to get the US House of Representatives to pass the controversial Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) , before the mandate of the current Congress expires in early January.
To this end, Senator Marsha Blackburn – a Republican who, along with Democrat Senator Richard Blumenthal led the charge to get the bill adopted in the Senate in July – has penned an opinion piece almost entirely crafted as yet another “think of the children” talking point.
Buried in the article – meant to demonstrate the urgent need of adopting KOSA by linking minors’ online presence with anything from anxiety and depression to cognitive decline, sex trafficking, and death by overdose – is the mention of one of the key criticisms of the bill, namely, that it will bring in even more censorship.
Blackburn acknowledges this is the concern that has kept KOSA “stalled for months” in the House, but then quickly dismisses the reasons as “blatant falsehoods” spread by Big Tech lobbyists.
Equally quickly the senator reveals that the bill that the Senate passed has been “updated” in order to dispel those same censorship concerns. The gist of these changes appears to be to make the bill less overbroad and vague – which is how censorship of protected speech could creep into its implementation if it becomes law.
Hardly a “Big Tech” lobbyist, the digital rights group EFF in September warned that mitigating online harms is something that needs to be done, but without violating the First Amendment.
