'Syria Will Not Engage In Conflict With Israel': De-Facto Ruler Makes First Comments On Israeli Attacks
The former ISIS and Al-Qaeda commander said the Turkish and US-backed coup in Syria was 'a victory over the dangerous Iranian political project' in West Asia
Syria's de-facto new ruler and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) leader Ahmed al-Sharaa on 14 December addressed for the first time Israel's numerous violations of Syrian territory and sovereignty.
"We are not about to engage in a conflict with Israel," Sharaa – who recently shed his nom de guerre Abu Mohammad al-Julani – said in an interview on Syrian TV, pointing to “Syria's weakened state.”
The former deputy commander of ISIS and co-founder of Al-Qaeda in Syria added that Israel's “arguments” for attacking the country “no longer exist.” “Hezbollah and Iran are no more,” he said.

The massive failures of October 7, 2023 – the day on which Israel's lines of defense collapsed, the country's borders were breached, approximately 1,200 Israelis were killed and some 240 people kidnapped – will never be properly investigated. That's the most important headline to emerge from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's press conference on Monday night.
Most of the 45-minute event was a narcissistic performance in which Netanyahu glorified himself and attacked Israel's courts, police and state prosecution for daring to put him on trial and investigate the alleged crimes of his top aides....
Netanyahu convened the press conference in order to viciously go after the judicial system, ahead of the first day of his testimony and questioning in his corruption trial. But nothing he said about the subject was new, or newsworthy. It was the same set of lies, spin and political talking points we've been hearing from him and his supporters for years.
Instead, the biggest piece of news arrived toward the end of the press conference when a reporter asked him when he will finally create a state commission of inquiry into the failures of October 7.
In Israel, a commission of inquiry is the most powerful entity that can be set up to investigate failures and disasters that involve agencies of the state. Sixteen such commissions have been established so far... This law gives the government the authority to set up a commission of inquiry whenever it identifies "an issue that is of vital public importance and requires an investigation."...
The most famous was the Agranat Commission, led by retired Justice Aharon Agranat, which was established in November 1973 to investigate the failings of that year's Yom Kippur War. It led, five months later, to the resignation of then-Prime Minister Golda Meir.

Kurdish militants in northern Syria have been reaching out to Israel for “assistance” after their villages were stormed by extremist groups who were involved in the assault that resulted in the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government, according to a 12 December report by Hebrew newspaper Israel Hayom.
“Senior Kurdish militia figures are turning to Israel for urgent help, in light of the seizure of territories from them by Islamist militias backed by Turkiye,” the report said.
The daily added that the Israeli security establishment is deliberating on whether or not it should respond to these Kurdish requests for aid, highlighting there has been ongoing communication between Tel Aviv and the Kurds, which has increased since Assad’s government fell on 8 December.
Yet Israel faces a “dilemma,” given the potential backlash from Turkiye. The main Kurdish group operating in Syria is the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which helps the US oversee its occupation of the country.
It is predominantly made up of forces from the Peoples Protection Unit (YPG) – the Syrian branch of Ankara’s longtime rival, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Fed-Up NJ Sheriff Sends Own Drone To Follow Mystery Flying Objects — What Happened Left Some ‘Stunned’
A fed-up New Jersey sheriff said he tried to track the mystery drones swarming the skies above his county — but they “easily” evaded the effort.
The mysterious drones, which don’t give off heat like more typical versions, swiftly maneuvered out of their clutches, Mastronardy told News Nation reporter Rich McHugh.

McHugh told the story Friday night to anchor Elizabeth Vargas, explaining he originally thought the drone hysteria might be a result of “pranksters” until he saw them himself.

According to people in the area and local media, a number of those killed were aid guards who were present to prevent lootings and chaos from arising at distribution points.
Nasser Banat, whose son and son-in-law were guarding aid before they were killed in the attacks, told Middle East Eye that the Israeli army targets such convoys because they believe the armed aid guards are Hamas-backed.
"They [the Israeli army] want people to steal the aid packages, and keep the chaos ongoing," he said.

Netanyahu Tells Iranian People That Regime Change Will Come ‘A Lot Sooner Than People Think’
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a fresh threat to carry out a regime change in Iran. The Israeli leader said Tel Aviv had scored a recent series of victories over Tehran.
In an English-speaking address to the people of Iran, he slammed Tehran for subjugating the Iranian people and promised, “One day you will be free.” Adding that he planned to “transform the Middle East.”
Netanyahu went on to suggest that Tel Aviv would play a role in ousting the Iranian government. “And I have no doubt that we will realize that future together.” He continued, “A lot sooner than people think.”
The Israeli leader issued a similar address to the people of Iran, also in English, on September 30. “When Iran is finally free, and that moment will come a lot sooner than people think — everything will be different,” he said at the time. “Our two ancient peoples, the Jewish people and the Persian people, will finally be at peace. Our two countries, Israel and Iran, will be at peace.”
Shortly after this address, Netanyahu significantly ramped up the massive bombing campaign of Lebanon and began the final stages of the ethnic cleansing in North Gaza. In the video posted to X on Wednesday, Netanyahu claimed great victories over Hamas and Hezbollah.
“The historic events we witnessed today are a chain reaction. A chain reaction to the pounding of Hamas, the decimation of Hezbollah, the targeting of Narsallah,” he said, referring to the Israeli assassination of the former leader of the Lebanese militant group. He referred to those events as “blows to Iran’s axis of terror.”
Netanyahu also referenced President-elect Donald Trump’s crediting of Israel’s “fighting success” for bringing down the Syrian government.
Since the October 7 attack, Israel has been on a rampage.. in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen.

Blinken Confirms The US Is In Direct Contact With Al-Qaeda-Linked HTS
HTS is designated by the US as a terrorist organization
Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Saturday that the US has been in direct contact with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, a US-designated terror organization that grew out of al-Qaeda in Syria and recently led the offensive that overthrew former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
“Yes, we have been in contact with HTS and with other parties,” Blinken said on Saturday, confirming earlier reports that said the US was talking to HTS. “Our message to the Syrian people is this: We want them to succeed, and we’re prepared to help them do so.”
HTS and its leader, Abu Mohammad al-Julani, are overseeing the new “transitional” government in Syria. Blinken and other US officials have celebrated the ouster of Assad and made clear they’re willing to work with Julani despite his past as an ISIS and al-Qaeda leader.
Julani, who has been going by his real name, Ahmad al-Sharaa, has been presenting himself as a moderate in an effort to gain support from the West and began a rebranding campaign in 2016 by claiming his former group, the al-Nusra Front, was cutting ties with al-Qaeda. At the time, he thanked the “commanders of al-Qaeda for having understood the need to break ties.”
In 2017, Julani merged his group with several other Islamist factions to form Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, which the US State Department designated as a foreign terrorist organization in 2018. The US also placed a $10 million bounty on Julani’s head.

EU Violates Privacy Laws While Promoting Privacy-Violating Law
The European Union, that sanctimonious beacon of regulation and rule of law, just got caught violating its own sacred privacy laws.
This week, the EU’s executive arm, the European Commission, took an embarrassing hit when the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) confirmed what everyone already suspected: their micro-targeted ad campaign on X was a flagrant breach of EU data protection rules.
It was all done to sell a deeply controversial legislative proposal that critics argue would eviscerate digital privacy under the guise of fighting child abuse material (CSAM). Yes, that’s right, the EU violated privacy to push a law that would violate privacy.

Privacy for Thee, But Not for Me
Let’s rewind to the fall of 2023 when the Commission’s Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs launched a propaganda blitz to promote its “Chat Control” proposal . The plan? To force messaging platforms to scan every single user’s communication for traces of CSAM. Noble cause? Sure. But the implementation? A privacy nightmare. Think of it as a digital TSA rummaging through your private messages while muttering something about “public safety.”
Critics weren’t buying it. Civil rights groups and privacy advocates warned the proposal would shred end-to-end encryption—turning every private conversation into potential evidence in a perpetual surveillance state. Some even argued the plan was legally dubious, as it brushed up against EU principles that protect free expression and privacy. But instead of engaging in a debate, the Commission went full Orwell, rolling out targeted ads designed to soften public resistance.
And where better to run this charm offensive than X? The Commission’s campaign used micro-targeting to tailor its message, processing citizens’ sensitive political data in the process. For an institution that prides itself on regulating Big Tech, it’s a bit like lecturing your neighbor about noise complaints while blasting heavy metal at 2 a.m.
Noyb and the EDPS Drop the Hammer (Sort Of)
Unsurprisingly, this Orwellian escapade didn’t sit well with privacy advocates. No sooner had the campaign launched than regional nonprofit noyb—short for “none of your business”—filed a complaint. They accused the Commission of engaging in “unlawful micro-targeting” by processing citizens’ political views without consent.

Privacy for Thee, But Not for Me
Let’s rewind to the fall of 2023 when the Commission’s Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs launched a propaganda blitz to promote its “Chat Control” proposal . The plan? To force messaging platforms to scan every single user’s communication for traces of CSAM. Noble cause? Sure. But the implementation? A privacy nightmare. Think of it as a digital TSA rummaging through your private messages while muttering something about “public safety.”
Critics weren’t buying it. Civil rights groups and privacy advocates warned the proposal would shred end-to-end encryption—turning every private conversation into potential evidence in a perpetual surveillance state. Some even argued the plan was legally dubious, as it brushed up against EU principles that protect free expression and privacy. But instead of engaging in a debate, the Commission went full Orwell, rolling out targeted ads designed to soften public resistance.
And where better to run this charm offensive than X? The Commission’s campaign used micro-targeting to tailor its message, processing citizens’ sensitive political data in the process. For an institution that prides itself on regulating Big Tech, it’s a bit like lecturing your neighbor about noise complaints while blasting heavy metal at 2 a.m.
Noyb and the EDPS Drop the Hammer (Sort Of)
Unsurprisingly, this Orwellian escapade didn’t sit well with privacy advocates. No sooner had the campaign launched than regional nonprofit noyb—short for “none of your business”—filed a complaint. They accused the Commission of engaging in “unlawful micro-targeting” by processing citizens’ political views without consent.
