Hayat Tahrir al-Sham spokesman Obeida Arnaout refuses to address Israel's brutal airstrikes on Syria following the fall of Assad's government, avoiding the question twice when asked by British Channel 4 news.

The World Central Kitchen (WCK) Fired 62 Of Its Palestinian Employees Helping To Distribute Aid For The Organization In Gaza, After Israel Claimed That They Had Links To Resistance Groups, Three Workers Told Reuters.

In a message to staff the WCK said it had "made changes," but that no conclusion could be drawn that the individuals were affiliated with any organizations, it said, adding that Israel had not provided evidence for its claims.

WCK was the partner of choice for the Israeli military to deliver aid in Gaza following the suspension of UNRWA, with the aid mission being directly coordinated with the military itself.

Earlier this year on 1 April, Israeli airstrikes targeted the WCK's vehicles while on a mission to deliver aid in Gaza, killing several international aid workers.

❗️A report by Bloomberg citing anonymous ‘sources’ claims Russia is nearing an agreement with HTS to keep two of its bases in Syria. Talks with the extremist opposition are underway for Russian forces to stay at Moscow’s naval base in Tartous (its only Mediterranean hub) and the Hmeimim airbase.

Israel Says It Launched 480 Strikes In Syria Since Fall Of Assad

The Israeli military has pushed further into Syrian territory and is said to be only 25km from Damascus

The IDF said it struck “most of the strategic weapons stockpiles in Syria” and estimated it destroyed between 70% to 80% of the former government’s weapons. Israeli strikes hit targets across Syria, including the port of Latakia, which destroyed naval vessels.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Israeli bombing campaign “destroyed the most important military sites in Syria, including Syrian airports and their warehouses, aircraft squadrons, radars, military signal stations, and many weapons and ammunition depots in various locations in most Syrian governorates.”

Israel has also seized territory inside Syria, a buffer zone separating the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights from the rest of Syria, and several areas beyond the zone. Sources told Reuters Israeli forces advanced 10 kilometers into Syrian territory and were only 25 kilometers away from Damascus.

Israeli sources denied that Israeli troops advanced that far into Syria but also announced they were creating a “sterile defense zone” in southern Syria, framing the occupation as temporary. The US has backed Israel’s land grab in Syria , also claiming it was a defensive move.

“Together with the prime minister, I have instructed the [military] to establish a sterile defense zone free of weapons and terrorist threats in southern Syria, without a permanent Israeli presence,” said Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz.

96% of children in Gaza feel that their death is imminent, while 49% say they want to die from the trauma they experienced, according to a study conducted by a Gaza-based NGO sponsored by the War Child Alliance charity.

A needs assessment found that 92% of the children in the survey “were not accepting of reality,” with almost 80% suffering from nightmares and 73% displaying symptoms of aggression.

The survey questioned caregivers of 504 children of families in which least one child is disabled, injured or unaccompanied.

(NOTE: The study was carried out back in June, so it likely understates the accumulated psychological impact on the children.)

Qatar To Reopen Embassy In Syria, Looking To 'Strengthen Ties' With HTS-Led Regime

From the start of the US-backed war in Syria, Doha remained one of the main backers of extremist armed groups that overthrew the government in Damascus

The Qatari foreign ministry announced on 11 December that the Gulf monarchy would soon reopen its embassy in the Syrian capital, Damascus, more than 13 years after shutting it down.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson ... al-Ansari told the Qatari News Agency (QNA) that Doha “aims to strengthen..."

During the early days of the US-backed war in Syria, Qatar became one of the first players to bankroll extremist armed factions in coordination with the CIA, including the Nusra Front, which is an Al-Qaeda affiliate and precursor to current kingmakers Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

Doha’s role was even acknowledged by the US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), which stated in 2016 that the Nusra Front “probably received logistical, financial and material assistance from the elements of the Turkish and Qatari governments.”

..The whole '“We have to be in Syria to fight ISIS” (and that is why we are plundering the country’s exhaustible natural resources as the people live in poverty the US has largely contributed to, and still does through sanctions) is a bit convenient given that a 2012 intelligence report from the DOD reveals that the US *checks notes* predicted that funding the US funding the opposition to Assad, whom the report acknowledged was largely composed of *checks notes* Jihadi extremists including Al-Qaeda, would likely lead to an Islamic state, which “the supporting powers to the opposition”, identifed as the US, Turkey, and the Gulf nations, WANT…. “isolate the Assad regime”… You can’t make this shit up.

And of course, the US funding these “moderate rebels” and flooding them with weapons would later lead to ISIS....

RFK Jr. goes on to remind us that “Secret cables and reports by the U.S., Saudi and Israeli intelligence agencies indicate that the moment Assad rejected the Qatari pipeline, military and intelligence planners quickly arrived at the consensus that fomenting a Sunni uprising in Syria to overthrow the uncooperative Bashar Assad was a feasible path to achieving the shared objective of completing the Qatar/Turkey gas link. In 2009, according to WikiLeaks, soon after Bashar Assad rejected the Qatar pipeline, the CIA began funding opposition groups in Syria. It is important to note that this was well before the Arab Spring-engendered uprising against Assad.”....

Qatar certainly did not spend 3 billion dollars training and arming insurgents at a US base in their country for humanitarian reasons, given the context of their proposed pipeline. The CIA weapon shipment routes to the “moderate rebels” were financed by Turkey, Qatar, and the Saudis. A pentagon funded Rand report from 2008 titled “Unfolding the future of the long war” suggested that “The United States and its local allies could use the nationalist jihadists to launch a proxy campaign” and “U.S. leaders could also choose to capitalize on the sustained Shia-Sunni conflict trajectory by taking the side of the conservative Sunni regimes against Shiite empowerment movements in the Muslim world … possibly supporting authoritative Sunni governments” being that Persian oil- and gas deposits would remain a “strategic priority.”

'You Have Nothing To Say?': HTS Tightlipped On Israeli Airstrikes, Occupation Of Syria

Hundreds of Israeli airstrikes have wiped out the majority of Syria’s military capabilities in the last few days

Obeida Arnaout, a spokesman for the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) extremist group that just took over Syria after a joint assault with Turkish-backed fighters, refused to address Israel’s airstrikes across the country in an interview aired by British news outlet Channel 4 on 11 December.

During the interview, Arnaout avoided answering the question twice.

When asked about his reaction to the over 300 Israeli airstrikes on Syria since 8 December, Arnaout said: “Our priority is to restore security and services, to revive civilian life and institutions, and care for newly liberated cities. There are many urgent parts of day-to-day life to restore, bakeries, electricity, water, communications, so our priority is to provide those services to the people.”

“I understand it's not your priority, but are you honestly telling me that you have nothing to say about Israel striking 300 sites in this country?” Channel 4’s interviewer asked a second time, to which Arnaout responded: “Have no doubt, we want everyone to respect the sovereignty of the new Syria. This point is very important to us.”
