To understand the situation better, one should be aware of a formerly classified DOD intelligence report written in 2012 that acknowledges the support of the opposition by western powers.

The redacted report starts off outlining “the general situation” in a lettered format:

1. Internally, events are taking a clear sectarian turn
2. The Salafists, the Muslim Brotherhood, and AQI(Al-Qaeda in Iraq) are the major forces driving the insurgency in Syria.
3. The West, Gulf Countries, and Turkey support the opposition; while Russia, China, and Iran support the Regime.”

Right off the bat, the document highlights the fact that the main groups driving the insurgency are Islamic extremists.

It goes on to acknowledge the US's support for these extremists. Why would the US be supporting groups of terrorists that include Al-Qaeda, the very enemy that had the US still occupying Afghanistan to dismantle?!

The document gives a partial answer, stating in a later page that,

“If the situation unravels there is the possibility of establishing a declared or undeclared salafist principality in eastern Syria, and this is exactly what the supporting powers to the opposition want, in order to isolate the Assad regime, which is considered the strategic depth is Shia expansion(Iraq and Iran),” going on to say “The deterioration of the situation has dire consequences on the Iraqi situation and are as follows: This creates the ideal atmosphere for AQI(Al-Qaeda in Iraq) to return to its old pockets in Mosul and Ramadi, and will provide a renewed momentum under the presumption of unifying among Sunni Iraq and Syria, and the rest of the Sunnis in the Arab world against what it considers one common enemy, the dissenters. Isi could declare an Islamic state through a union with other terrorist organizations in Iraq and Syria.”

The document shows not only that the US and allied powers helped create ISIS by knowingly supporting various terrorists groups, not only that they predicted an Islamic state would form as a consequence of their support, but that “that’s exactly what the supporting powers of the opposition want”— we were never funding “moderate rebels.” That was propaganda. It really is that simple.

So on one hand we are fighting a “global war on terror,” while on the other we are supporting literal terror groups in order to stop “shia expansion?” We were funding jihadis from the start, as was Saudi Arabia and Qatar and other powers. Why?

Netanyahu No Longer Conceals His War Against 'The Eighth Front' – the Home Front

On Wednesday, the spokesman for the IDF, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, said some harsh things that needed to be said about achieving a hostage deal... at a press conference to discuss the deaths of six hostages...

Hagari said that given the failure to return these hostages alive, the authorities were obligated to return the remaining captives. This angered the governing coalition, but the deluge followed another statement he made. Hagari said something in public that the army has so far only said unofficially (and the intelligence agencies believe it as well).

He said that the so-called Feldstein bill, which permits the transfer of documents by military personnel directly to the prime minister without any authorization, is dangerous for the IDF. This would create a situation in which any soldier would be able to steal classified documents with impunity.

The passing of this bill in a preliminary vote this week was meant to signal to the detained prime minister's spokesman, Eli Feldstein, that the prime minister and the coalition are backing him so that he doesn't, God forbid, spill his guts....

But more is at play here. ... his desire to purge the top of the defense establishment and the judiciary. This will allow him to deflect any blame for the failures of October 7 and try to undermine his corruption trial.

With all due respect to Hagari, the Bibi-ists have bigger fish to fry, mainly Halevi and the head of the Shin Bet security service, Ronen Bar. A caption on Channel 14 on Wednesday claimed that Bar was trying "to wage a coup" and impose a "Shin Bet state" on Israel.

...It's patently obvious that the ruler finds it extremely urgent to remove Bar. A former Shin Bet chief, Yoram Cohen, wondered in an interview on Army Radio: "In what country would it be reasonable for the prime minister to directly assail the military chief of staff? This doesn't even happen in dictatorships."

...the assaults on them by Netanyahu and his mouthpieces, as well as the intent to replace Bar with a Shin Bet chief more loyal to the prime minister than to the democratic regime, raise grave concerns. Netanyahu no longer bothers to conceal his plans, which are clearly understood by his subordinates.

The vicious assault on the state's watchdogs reflects the growing stress among the prime minister's aides ahead of the beginning of his testimony at his trial Tuesday.

Israel Expands Occupation Of Golan Heights As Assad's Government Falls

Foreign-backed extremists took control of the Syrian capital of Damascus overnight

Israel deployed tanks and troops to occupy the buffer zone in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights on 8 December following the fall of the Syrian government to foreign-backed extremist groups overnight.

The Israeli army announced its forces occupy "several points necessary for defense" in the buffer zone, citing the possibility of "armed men" entering the zone.

The buffer zone was established in 1974 as part of the ceasefire that ended the Yom Kippur War between Israel and Syria.

Foreign-backed extremist militants from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) entered Damascus overnight after a lightning advance on the capital that began less than two weeks ago from their strongholds in Idlib Governorate.

Militants from HTS, formerly known as the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front, quickly occupied the Aleppo countryside and city before moving south to capture Hama, Homs, and finally, Damascus.

❗️Footage obtained by Al Jazeera shows Israeli forces directly targeting citizens while they were trying to rescue an injured person at the gate of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip.

Reports say that the injured person who appeared in the video was later killed, and it was impossible to retrieve any of the bodies due to the hospital being surrounded and the lack of ambulances in the northern areas.

Netanyahu Takes Credit For Assad’s Overthrow, Israel Seizes Golan Heights ‘Buffer Zone’

Israel has taken control of a strip of land in Syria that separated the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights from the rest of Syria

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday celebrated the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad by al-Qaeda-linked militants and confirmed that Israel has seized a buffer zone inside Syria that separates the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights from the rest of Syria’s territory.

“This is a historic day in the history of the Middle East,” Netanyahu said during a visit to the Golan Heights. “The Assad regime is a central link in Iran’s axis of evil — this regime has fallen.”

Netanyahu credited Israel with setting off the process that led to the downfall of Assad. In the months leading up to the offensive launched by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), Israel was waging a war against Hezbollah and ramped up airstrikes in Syria.

“This is a direct result of the blows we have inflicted on Iran and Hezbollah, the main supporters of the Assad regime,” Netanyahu said. “This has created a chain reaction throughout the Middle East of all those who want to be free from this oppressive and tyrannical regime.”

The Israeli leader also said he directed the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to capture the buffer zone in Syria . “Together with the Defense Minister, and with full backing from the Cabinet, I directed the IDF yesterday to take control of the buffer zone and the dominant positions near it,” he said. “We will not allow any hostile force to establish itself on our border.”
