Irish Justice Minister To Police Sweeping Powers To Intercept Private Conversations on Social Media Sites Under New Legislation
New levels of censorship and surveillance.
The Irish police (Garda) is about to get new, wide-ranging powers to spy on people’s private online conversations happening via chat apps – in order to “crack down on crime” after last week’s events in Dublin.
But the events the Irish legislators are talking about are not the stabbing of 5 and 6-year-old children and their caregivers, but rather the reaction to the heinous crime, namely, the protests and riots that followed.
The Irish government is, overall, making a huge effort to redirect focus from the original event (committed by an Algerian man who had apparently been granted Irish citizenship) to preventing it from increasing the anti-migrant sentiment, that is already present in many European countries as a result of the controversial migrant policies over these last years.
In the words of opposition Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald – who was referring to the authorities’ relentless maneuvering around the real issue, including by calling protesters “extremists” – she has never witnessed such “brazen ass covering (by the government).”

Israel Planning for Gaza War To Last Over a Year
One source said, “This will be a very long war . . . We’re currently not near halfway to achieving our objectives.”
The Financial Times reported speaking with sources who said that Israel plans to wage war on Gaza for over a year. In a little less than two months, Israel has killed at least 15,000 people, damaged 100,000 buildings, displaced 1.7 million Palestinians, and destroyed most of Gaza’s medical facilities.
On Friday, FT reported sources said Israel was preparing for a multi-phase conflict in Gaza that will last at least a year. “This will be a very long war…We’re currently not near halfway to achieving our objectives,” said one person familiar with the Israeli war plans.
According to the sources, Israel’s goals include “killing the three top Hamas leaders — Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Deif, and Marwan Issa — while securing a decisive military victory against the group’s 24 battalions and underground tunnel network and destroying its governing capability in Gaza.”
Israel does not appear close to achieving these goals. US sources have said that Israel’s military operations in Gaza have failed to impact high or even mid-level Hamas members. On Sunday, the Guardian reported that Israeli officials estimated that 1,000 – 2,000 Hamas members had been killed. However, FT spoke with an Israeli military source who gave an estimate of 5,000 dead Hamas members. It is unclear why there is such a large discrepancy in the numbers, as both were given during the week-long pause in fighting.

Trump Prosecutor Jack Smith’s Overreaching Warrant Seeks Data on People Who Liked, Retweeted Trump Tweets
The Department of Justice may have extensively gathered data from individuals who interacted with former President Donald Trump’s Twitter account. This data collection includes actions such as liking, following, or retweeting Trump’s posts that occurred in the period leading up to January 6.
Special Counsel Jack Smith, overseeing the investigation into Trump’s potential interference in the 2020 presidential election and the Capitol events, issued a search warrant against the social media company X, previously known as Twitter. This action was part of his broader inquiry into these matters.
Media entities, after filing a lawsuit for access, unveiled that the warrant, released on Monday, authorized the collection of substantial user data from those engaging with Trump’s Twitter account from October 2020 to January 2021. The warrant specified the acquisition of information from the Connect or Notifications tab of the account, including lists of users who favorited or retweeted Trump’s tweets, as well as all tweets mentioning or replying to the account.

Israel Says it Called Off Truce Talks in Qatar, Destruction Resumes
‘Resumption of fighting in Gaza intense’: Red Cross
The director general of the Red Cross has made comments at the COP28 UN summit in Dubai, as Israel continues to bombard the besieged coastal enclave a day after a week-long humanitarian pause.
“It’s a new layer of destruction coming on top of massive, unparalleled destruction of critical infrastructure, of civilian houses and neighbourhoods,” said ICRC Director General Robert Mardini, warning the violence would make it difficult to get humanitarian aid into Gaza.
Mardini described Gaza as being in “shambles and rubble”. The ICRC had 130 staff working there, he said.
Mardini said people in Gaza were “living in constant fear of violent death” and struggling to survive amid shortages of food and water caused by the fighting, while hospitals were working with limited resources.
“Everything in Gaza is at the breaking point,” he said.

France Interfering In Lebanon’s Internal Affairs: Report
The French special envoy to Lebanon has been pushing for an extension of the Lebanese army chief’s term on behalf of the ‘five-nation group’ on Lebanon
The leader of Lebanon’s Free Patriotic Movement (FPM), Gebran Bassil, held a heated conversation on 30 November with France’s special envoy to the country, Jean-Yves Le Drian, who is currently visiting the Lebanese capital.
“The French envoy was swift in moving from the discussion of the presidential file, which is supposed to be the core of his mission, to the issue of extending the term of General (Joseph) Aoun,” Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar reported on 1 December.
“Le Drian stressed that vacuum in the army command would harm Lebanon’s security and the security of France and Europe,” it added.
According to the report, Bassil was surprised by “France’s interference in the appointment of an army chief in Lebanon, asking the French guest about the logic behind his call for violating the law and the constitution.”
The term of army chief Joseph Aoun is set to expire this coming January, and extending it would require an amendment of the constitution.
Aoun is also a close friend of the US embassy and Washington’s preferred candidate for the Lebanese presidency. However, a period of six months must pass following the expiry of his term in order for him to be eligible to become president, according to Lebanese law.

🚨BREAKING: Border Surveillance Footage From 7 October 'Disappears': Israeli Officers
Israeli reserve officers say surveillance video and audio recordings from the Gaza border during the Hamas attack have been deleted, potentially to prevent an investigation into what happened that day
Israeli military surveillance video from the Gaza border from 7 October, the day of Hamas’ surprise attack, has disappeared, Israeli news site Walla reported on 3 December.
During a visit by a senior female officer from the Israeli army general staff to the various division headquarters, senior officers in the reserves commented that "an invisible hand" had deleted videos from the various military surveillance cameras showing the events of that day, the Hebrew language outlet stated.
The videos were deleted from the military network known as “ZeeTube,” potentially to prevent their use in an in-depth investigation of how thousands of Hamas fighters managed to breach the border fence and infiltrate Israel to carry out the attack.
"We sat down with one of the generals and were going to show him a video about one of the events, and we found out that someone had deleted the videos," said a senior reserve officer from one of the divisions, adding, "It was very embarrassing. Then suspicion arose as to why someone would do that. And at the end the excuses started that it was decided to give special privileges to certain officers to view the footage. Do officers in our ranks need privileges? It looks like a war between generals and officials. There is a feeling that everyone is now trying to take care of themselves for the day after," when an investigation into events of that day takes place.
Israeli officials, including top generals and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have acknowledged the Hamas attack, in which 1,200 Israeli soldiers and civilians were killed, resulted from an intelligence failure. However, they insist the events of that day cannot be investigated until after the war in Gaza, in which some 20,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli bombing, ends.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Saturday that the alliance must be prepared for bad news about Ukraine and urged support for continuing the proxy war against Russia.

Stoltenberg acknowledged Ukraine has been unable to “move the front line” but claimed Ukrainian forces were still achieving “big victories.” He previously argued that Ukraine was having some success because it was inflicting heavy losses on Russia, although Kyiv is currently facing a serious manpower shortage.
Stoltenberg’s comments came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged to The Associated Press that the counteroffensive was a failure. “We wanted faster results. From that perspective, unfortunately, we did not achieve the desired results. And this is a fact,” he said.
