❗️Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir banned the Islamic call to prayer throughout the 1948 territories on Sunday describing it as "noise" and stated: "As they do in Europe, as they do in every civilized country in the world, as they do in Arab countries, we also need to address the issue of noise from mosques."
Ben Gvir's new policy not only allows the Israeli police to enter mosques and confiscate loudspeaker equipment, but also allows the government to fine mosques.
It is not the first time that Ben Gvir has taken aim at the call to prayer. In 2013, well before he was a minister, him and a group of other far-right activist blasted the call of prayer during the early morning hours of Tel Aviv to supposedly display how loud the prayer is to people who never experienced it before.

China Bans Export of Critical Minerals to US as Trade Tensions Escalate
China on Tuesday banned exports to the United States of the critical minerals gallium, germanium and antimony that have widespread military applications, escalating trade tensions the day after Washington's latest crackdown on China's chip sector.
The curbs strengthen enforcement of existing limits on critical minerals exports that Beijing began rolling out last year, but apply only to the U.S. market, in the latest escalation of trade tensions between the world's two largest economies ahead of President-elect Donald Trump taking office next month.
A Chinese Commerce Ministry directive on dual-use items with both military and civilian applications cited national security concerns. The order, which takes immediate effect, also requires stricter review of end-usage for graphite items shipped to the U.S.
"In principle, the export of gallium, germanium, antimony, and superhard materials to the United States shall not be permitted," the ministry said.
Gallium and germanium are used in semiconductors, while germanium is also used in infrared technology, fibre optic cables and solar cells. Antimony is used in bullets and other weaponry, while graphite is the largest component by volume of electric vehicle batteries.
The move has sparked fresh concern that Beijing could next target other critical minerals, including those with even broader usage such as nickel or cobalt.
"China has been signalling for some time that it's willing to take these steps, so when is the U.S. going to learn its lesson?" said Todd Malan of Talon Metals (TLO.TO), opens new tab, which is trying to develop a nickel mine in Minnesota and is exploring for the metal in Michigan. The only U.S. nickel mine will be depleted by 2028.
The United States was assessing the new restrictions, but will take "necessary steps" in response, a White House spokesperson said, without giving details.
"These new controls only underscore the importance of strengthening our efforts with other countries to de-risk and diversify critical supply chains away from PRC (China)," the spokesperson said.
Representatives for Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Chinese customs data show there have been no shipments of wrought and unwrought germanium or gallium to the U.S. this year through October, although it was the fourth and fifth-largest market for the minerals, respectively, a year earlier.

China accounted for 70% of world mine production of rare earths in 2022 and is home to at least 85% of global processing capacity. This year, it imposed export restrictions on gallium and germanium for use in computer chips and other components - a move widely seen as retaliation for U.S. curbs on technology sales to China and which raised concerns over more restrictions.
7/27/23 — Could Supply Chain Security Take U.S. Firms To Africa? .
Beginning in August, China will levy export controls on two critical minerals: gallium and geranium. These metals are essential to semiconductor technology and restricting access to them marks Beijing’s latest volley in its strategic power competition with Washington and will significantly disrupt U.S. and Taiwanese chip manufacturers.
The global mineral supply chain is already narrow and China has an overwhelming lead with respect to rare earth metal extraction and processing. This market dominance enables Beijing to manipulate access seemingly at-will. Beyond minerals, China’s status as the world’s top manufacturer also makes raw material building blocks like plastics, chemicals, and agriculture products vulnerable to Beijing’s geopolitical ambitions.

US-Backed Kurdish Militia Withdraws From Aleppo In Agreement With HTS — 12/2
The YPG, the backbone of the US-backed SDF, withdrew from the Kurdish-majority Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods
The Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) began withdrawing from Kurdish-majority neighborhoods in Aleppo on 2 December under an agreement with Turkish-backed extremist factions that recently seized control of the city and its surrounding countryside from the Syrian army.
The YPG had dispatched fighters to protect Kurdish neighborhoods in Aleppo in response to the attack by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and the Syrian National Army (SNA).
However, the YPG began withdrawing its forces Monday morning, with its fighters evacuating in equipped buses toward Manbij and Raqqa in northern and eastern Syria, a military source told Al-Hurra TV channel.
“The agreement allows Kurdish residents of the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods to remain if they choose,” the source added.
The YPG forms the backbone of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which occupies north and east Syria in partnership with the US military.
SDF Commander Mazloum Abdi described the developments in northwestern Syria as “rapid and unexpected.”
“We intervened to open a humanitarian corridor between our eastern territories, Aleppo, and Tal Rifaat after the collapse of Syrian government forces and their allies.”
The SDF, which is an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), issued a general mobilization call on Sunday, claiming that the Turkish-backed extremist offensive will target areas under SDF control and governed by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
...The SDF partnered with US forces starting in 2015 to occupy large swathes of northeast Syria, including areas with Kurdish and Arab majorities east of the Euphrates River. The areas under US and SDF occupation are home to much of Syria’s oil and wheat production regions.
SDF and US forces regularly loot Syrian oil. Convoys of trucks transport Syrian oil to the neighboring Iraqi Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq. The oil is then transported to Turkiye for sale to Israel.
