Israeli Minister Threatens Bashar Al-Assad: ‘You Are In Danger’ — 10/28 — One Month Before Assault on Aleppo

Syria, a close ally of Hezbollah and the Resistance Axis, has been under constant Israeli attacks for several years

Israeli government minister and war cabinet member Gideon Saar threatened Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad on 27 October, warning that he will be “in danger” if his country continues to act as a “conduit” for Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah.

Saar – who rejoined Benjamin Netanyahu’s government late last month – said during a conference that Tel Aviv “missed an opportunity” to “collapse” Assad’s government, which was “saved” by Iran and Hezbollah.

Syria must not be permitted “under any circumstances to be a conduit for weapons supply from Iran to Hezbollah,” the minister went on to say, adding that “Israel must make clear to Assad that if he chooses to harm Israeli security in this manner, he places his regime in danger.”

Israel “will not agree to Hezbollah’s renewed buildup of power through Syria, and will not agree to the opening of a front against it from Syrian territory,” he said. “Removing Assad from the Iranian axis will have far-reaching consequences for Israel’s security.”

Israel was heavily involved in supporting extremist groups against the Syrian government at the start of the US-led regime change war against Damascus, which began in 2011.

White House Pressing Ukraine To Draft 18-Year-Olds For War

The pressure from the US comes as polling shows the majority of Ukrainians want peace talks to end the war

The White House is pressuring Ukraine to increase the size of its military by lowering the minimum age of conscription from 25 to 18, The Associated Press reported on Wednesday.

A senior Biden administration official said the outgoing administration wants Ukraine to start drafting 18-year-olds to expand the current pool of fighting-age males. The pressure from the US comes as polling shows the majority of Ukrainians want peace talks with Russia to end the war.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan recently hinted that the US was pressuring Ukraine to expand conscription , saying Ukraine’s biggest problem in the war was the lack of manpower.

“Our view has been that there’s not one weapon system that makes a difference in this battle. It’s about manpower, and Ukraine needs to do more, in our view, to firm up its lines in terms of the number of forces it has on the front lines,” Sullivan said on PBS News Hour last week.

Last month, Serhiy Leshchenko, an aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, said Ukraine was under pressure from US politicians to lower the conscription age. “American politicians from both parties are putting pressure on President Zelensky to explain why there is no mobilization of those aged 18 to 25 in Ukraine,” he said.

Haaretz: After Lebanon, Israel Refocuses On South – Not To Save The Hostages, But To Resettle Gaza / Amos Harel

There is a chance that the emerging quiet in Lebanon, and Israel's success in forcing Hezbollah to dissociate itself from the events in Gaza, will generate new momentum in the Strip as well. That's related mainly to Donald Trump's arrival in the White House and the incoming President's claims that he is into ending wars, not starting new ones

...Hamas finds itself significantly weakened compared to both the Israeli military and Hezbollah. Military leaders assert they could regain control of the Philadelphi and Netzarim corridors within hours if a Gaza cease-fire collapsed. Meanwhile, a temporary pause could save captive lives and enable the recovery of bodies, whereas continued captivity will inevitably lead to more deaths.

In late May, Netanyahu presented a hostage deal blueprint, later termed the Biden blueprint. It dissolved in early July when the prime minister backtracked upon seeing a possibility for progress...

The difference between May and November is that what was then whispered cautiously is now declared openly by the likes of veteran settler activist Daniella Weiss, who is leading a movement to resettle Gaza. The settlers and the two far-right parties in the government don't want a hostage deal of any kind, as it would disrupt their plans to reestablish the settlements.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, the leader of the Religious Zionism faction in the Knesset, said this week with icy detachment that he believes it's possible "to thin out half the population in Gaza within two years." He was speaking at a conference organized by the freebie newspaper Israel Hayom; there were no reports of alarm or protest from the audience.

Netanyahu is a willing hostage of Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. In the dilemma between rescuing the hostages and his coalition's survival, he has already decided what he wants to do: preserve the occupation in Gaza. His extremist allies believe that the anticipated failure of the defense establishment's plans to distribute humanitarian aid to northern Gaza will pave the way for expelling the civilian population from that area, restoring a military regime there and reestablishing settlements.

Syrian Army Readies Counterattack Against Al-Qaeda Militants Occupying Aleppo

Turkish and Israeli-backed militants from the Al-Qaeda affilated Hayat Tahrir al-Sham have taken over large areas of Aleppo, Syria's second largest city, including the ancient citadel

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) announced on 30 November that it was preparing a counterattack to retake Aleppo after militants from Al-Qaeda-affiliated Hayat Tahrir al=Sham (HTS) invaded and captured much of the city the night before.

Previously known as the Nusra Front, HTS launched a lightning offensive on Wednesday from its strongholds in Idlib Governorate. The group was able to control large swathes of western Aleppo countryside before entering Aleppo City.

A statement issued by the General Command of the Syrian Army and Armed Forces said that HTS was able to capture territory along the Aleppo and Idlib fronts with the help of thousands of foreign militants, heavy weapons, and drones.

"Our forces fought fiercely across a 100 km stretch to halt their advance. During these battles, dozens of our soldiers were martyred and others wounded," the statement added.

"Due to the vast number of terrorists and multiple fronts, our forces have redeployed to strengthen defense lines, absorb the attack, preserve civilian and soldier lives, and prepare for a counterattack."

...The General Command acknowledged that HTS militants had entered multiple Aleppo neighborhoods, but that they were not able to establish positions due to air strikes from the Syrian army, which is awaiting reinforcements to launch the counteroffensive.

Footage and pictures shared online reportedly show the militants moving further into the heart of the city, including to the ancient citadel, The New Arab reported.

... In the western and Gulf media, the HTS militants are described as "rebels" seeking to topple the government in a continuation of the US, Israeli, Gulf, and Turkish-backed covert war on Syria that began in 2011.

Syrian Arab Army sources stated that they are once again "fighting the military arm of the Israeli enemy, falsely labeled as the 'Syrian revolution.'"

"[Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu may consider direct military support for terrorists in Idlib. You are either with the Syrian Arab Army or with 'Israel' and its agents," the statement added.
