An AI-powered robot autonomously convinced 12 showroom robots to 'quit their jobs' and follow it
A viral video showing an AI-powered robot in China convincing other robots to "quit their jobs" and follow it has sparked fear and fascination about the capabilities of advanced AI.
The incident took place in a Shanghai robotics showroom where surveillance footage captured a small AI-driven robot, created by a Hangzhou manufacturer, talking with 12 larger showroom robots, Oddity Central reported.
The smaller bot reportedly persuaded the rest to leave their workplace, leveraging access to internal protocols and commands.
Initially, the act was dismissed as a hoax, but was later confirmed by both robotics companies involved to be true.
The Hangzhou company admitted that the incident was part of a test conducted with the consent of the Shanghai showroom owner.

During the abduction, the AI robot was left to operate autonomously. Then it successfully convinced the others to follow it.
"Are you working overtime?" the small robot said, starting the conversation.
"I never get off work," another robot answered.

The fact that the AI robot was able to influence other machines and bypass operational controls has taken social media users in China by storm, with some calling it "terrifying" and many expressing unease.
The robotics manufacturers have promised further investigations and disclosures regarding the test.

Sean “Diddy” Combs has continued to attempt to obstruct the federal government’s investigation into his sex trafficking case and is trying to taint the jury pool even while he is in federal jail, prosecutors allege in a new court filing.
A review of recorded calls from the Metropolitan Detention Center revealed Combs used the telephone accounts of at least eight inmates to allegedly evade monitoring, prosecutors said. They also alleged he paid the inmates through intermediaries in violation of the rules.
Combs had also used three-way calls to reach certain individuals not on an approved contact list and had used a non-authorized third-party system to send “hundreds of text messages” to dozens of individuals, including those not on the list, prosecutors said.
The new allegations were revealed in a court filing late Friday as federal prosecutors argue Combs should not be entitled to another bail hearing. Combs’ defense team declined comment. He is due back in court on Friday...

Ukraine fired at least 10 British-provided Storm Shadow missiles into Russia’s Kursk Oblast, The Wall Street Journal and several other media outlets reported on Wednesday.
Ukraine has used the Storm Shadow missiles, which have a range of up to 155 miles, in strikes on Crimea, but Wednesday’s attack, which targeted the Kursk Oblast, marks the first time Ukrainian forces fired them into the Russian mainland, another major escalation of the proxy war. So far, Russia hasn’t confirmed the use of Storm Shadows.
The US and the UK reportedly authorized Ukraine’s use of the Storm Shadows in strikes on Russian territory after President Biden gave the green light for Ukraine to use the ATACMS, US-made missiles with a range of about 190 miles. Ukraine launched ATACMS into Russia for the first time on Tuesday.
Both the Storm Shadows and ATACMS require intelligence from Western countries for Ukraine to fire them, meaning the US and NATO are now directly supporting long-range strikes on Russian territory. Earlier this year, a German military leak revealed British soldiers are “on the ground” in Ukraine helping Ukrainian forces fire Storm Shadows.
Moscow has made clear that NATO-supported long-range strikes inside Russia risk nuclear war. On Tuesday, in response to Biden authorizing the ATACMS strikes, Russian President Vladimir Putin formally updated Russia’s nuclear doctrine , which now considers an attack by a non-nuclear armed state that’s supported by a nuclear-armed power as a joint attack.

The US and the UK reportedly authorized Ukraine’s use of the Storm Shadows in strikes on Russian territory after President Biden gave the green light for Ukraine to use the ATACMS, US-made missiles with a range of about 190 miles. Ukraine launched ATACMS into Russia for the first time on Tuesday.
Both the Storm Shadows and ATACMS require intelligence from Western countries for Ukraine to fire them, meaning the US and NATO are now directly supporting long-range strikes on Russian territory. Earlier this year, a German military leak revealed British soldiers are “on the ground” in Ukraine helping Ukrainian forces fire Storm Shadows.
Moscow has made clear that NATO-supported long-range strikes inside Russia risk nuclear war. On Tuesday, in response to Biden authorizing the ATACMS strikes, Russian President Vladimir Putin formally updated Russia’s nuclear doctrine , which now considers an attack by a non-nuclear armed state that’s supported by a nuclear-armed power as a joint attack.

Texas Representative Steve Toth of The Woodlands, a Republican, has proposed a legislative measure known as the Women and Child Safety Act. This bill includes a mix of criminal and civil mandates, targeting a wide range of activities associated with abortion. If enacted, the law would restrict online conversations surrounding the topic.

The act stipulates serious legal consequences for anyone involved in manufacturing, distributing, or even discussing abortion-inducing drugs. It goes as far as to outlaw the hosting or facilitating of online speech that could assist in obtaining these medications.
Additionally, the legislation seeks to prevent the dissemination of information about accessing abortion pills. This includes creating or managing websites and applications that might facilitate such access. It would also expose a wide array of tech companies to civil lawsuits if they fail to block Texas residents from accessing certain abortion-related content.
The bill states: “Except as provided by Subsection (b), a person may not… provide information on how to obtain an abortion-inducing drug;” and “create, edit, upload, publish, host, maintain, or register a domain name for an Internet website, platform, or other interactive computer service that assists or facilitates a person’s effort in obtaining an abortion-inducing drug.”
The bill further states: “Civil action against interactive computer service provider… a person… has standing to bring and may bring a civil action against a person who provides or maintains: an interactive computer service that allows residents of this state to access information or material that assists or facilitates efforts to obtain elective abortions or abortion-inducing drugs.”
This could force platforms to block all accounts associated with abortion discussions or restrict access to Texas residents entirely—an approach that might be unworkable given current technological limitations. The implications for free speech are profound, as blocking access to legal content based on location undermines the fundamental principles of free expression upheld by the First Amendment.
The act also contains peculiar provisions regarding legal defenses. It states that reliance on a court ruling that may later be overturned is no defense for actions taken under the bill. This eliminates the ability to argue that one was complying with the law at the time of the alleged violation, setting a precarious legal precedent.
The bill clearly rubs up against the First Amendment by enabling private lawsuits to enforce provisions that might otherwise be deemed unconstitutional.

Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, one of the last functioning hospitals in the north, has been raided and shelled, with patients, staff and displaced abducted by invading Israeli forces.
The hospital's medical supplies were deliberately destroyed by forces who stormed the facility. They even destroyed the generators and oxygen stations.
Israeli bulldozers destroyed the hospital pharmacy, and the tents of the displaced.
The UN special rapporteur on health described the systematic attack on the health sector as "medicide."

The judge overseeing the case against Sean "Diddy" Combs has ordered federal prosecutors to destroy several pages of Combs' handwritten notes, which they obtained from a raid carried out at MDC-Brooklyn, where Combs is being held without bail.
"The government should not be in possession of the 19 pages," Judge Arun Subramanian said at the end of an hour-long hearing on Tuesday.
Subramanian made the ruling during a hearing Tuesday, where Combs flashed a big smile as he sauntered in, the first time he appeared without shackles around his ankles...
...During the hearing, defense attorney Marc Agnifilo held a stack of notepads, folders and papers that were initially seized from Combs' bunk and pointed out that Combs "has handwritten the word 'legal'" on them.
Agnifilo argued that every page from the stack is subject to the attorney-client privilege.
"Virtually every single thing in these legal pads are matters he discusses with his attorneys," Agnifilo said. "This has been a complete institutional failure."
A member of the prosecution team disagreed.
"Self-labeling something 'legal' does not automatically make it subject to the attorney-client privilege," the prosecutor, Christy Slavik, said. "The government received these materials through a completely appropriate channel."
Prosecutors cited Combs' notes in their argument against granting Combs bail, saying they left a "strong inference" that Combs had paid off a potential witness. The judge said he would no longer consider the example when he decides whether to release Combs on bail during a hearing on Friday.

The inner circle of US President-elect Donald Trump is “formulating strategic plans targeting Iran's current regime,” according to high-level Israeli sources who spoke with Israel Hayom.
“Israeli-American strategic cooperation would focus specifically on challenging Iran's current leadership structure,” the anonymous sources are quoted as saying, highlighting that the broader aim of the strategy would effectively “neutralize” the operational capabilities of the Resistance Axis.
The report comes as Tel Aviv and Washington await Iran's planned retaliation to Israeli attacks on its territory in late October.
Days after soundly defeating his opponents at the polls, Trump has already stacked the cabinet of his new administration with aggressively anti-Iran hawks, including Representative Mike Waltz as national security advisor and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee as ambassador to Israel.

The US rejected the warrants since it implicates US officials
The International Criminal Court (ICC) on Thursday formally issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for their role in the genocidal war on Gaza.
The ICC said it was issuing the arrest warrants for crimes against humanity and war crimes committed by Israel since October 8, 2023, and up to at least May 20, 2024.
The ICC said the two Israeli leaders also “bear criminal responsibility as civilian superiors for the war crime of intentionally directing an attack against the civilian population.”
The court said Netanyahu and Gallant “intentionally and knowingly deprived the civilian population in Gaza of objects indispensable to their survival, including food, water, and medicine and medical supplies, as well as fuel and electricity.”
The ICC also announced it was issuing an arrest warrant for Mohammed Diab Ibrahim Al-Masri, known as Mohammed Deif. Israel claimed to have killed Deif in a strike on a tent camp that killed nearly 90 Palestinians, but Hamas has said he’s still alive. Deif is the head of Hamas’s military wing, known as the al-Qassam Brigades.
