ISIS Steps Up Attacks To 'Destabilize' Syria, Russian Envoy Warns

Alexander Lavrentiev issued the warning ahead of a new round of negotiations in Astana to reach an end to the Syria war

The Russian President's Special Envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, stated on 11 November that ISIS is becoming more active and launching increasing numbers of attacks against Syrian government forces.

“The situation in Syria is very complicated. Extremist groups have become more active, both in the West and in the East. ISIS has become very active recently and has begun to carry out more and more attacks against government forces and pro-Iranian formations,” Lavrentiev told reporters ahead of a new round of talks on Syria in the Kazakh city of Astana.

There are “forces that want to destabilize“ the situation in Syria, Lavrentiev added.

The Astana talks seek to reach a lasting settlement to the US-backed war on Syria that began in 2011.

The talks include representatives from Russia, Turkey, and Iran, and representatives of the Syrian government and the opposition, as well as observers from the UN, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq.

🚨Pentagon Fails 7th Audit in a Row but Says Progress Made

The Pentagon on Friday failed its seventh audit in a row, with the nation’s largest government agency still unable to fully account for its more than $824 billion budget, though officials stress they are making good progress toward a clean audit in 2028.

The Department of Defense technically earned a disclaimer of opinion, meaning it failed to provide sufficient information to auditors to form an accurate opinion.

The goal is to earn an unmodified audit opinion, or a clean audit that says the financial statements are accurate. A qualified opinion says there are omissions and concerns but the finances are generally reliable.

Under Secretary of Defense Comptroller and Chief Financial Officer Michael McCord said that despite the disclaimer of opinion, which he expected, the Defense Department “has turned a corner in its understanding of the depth and breadth of its challenges.”

“Momentum is on our side, and throughout the Department there is strong commitment—and belief in our ability—to achieve an unmodified audit opinion,” he said in a statement.

The Defense Department’s report card as a whole is made up of 28 entities operating under the Pentagon that conducted independent audits.

Of those, nine received an unmodified audit opinion, one received a qualified opinion, 15 received disclaimers and three opinions remain pending. The Pentagon expects the final number of clean or qualified audits to be roughly around what it was last year.

The Pentagon has never passed an audit since the agency became legally obligated to carry them out in 2018. A major challenge in auditing remains a full accounting of the sheer number of systems the Defense Department employs.😭😭

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has tried to reach out to prospective witnesses and influence public opinion from jail in a bid to affect potential jurors for his upcoming sex trafficking trial, prosecutors claimed in a court filing urging a judge to reject his latest bail request.

The government accusations were made in a Manhattan federal court filing late Friday that opposes the music mogul’s latest $50 million bail proposal. A bail hearing is scheduled for next week.

Prosecutors wrote that a review of recorded jail calls made by Combs shows he has asked family members to reach out to potential victims and witnesses and has urged them to create “narratives” to influence the jury pool. They say he also has encouraged marketing strategies to sway public opinion.

“The defendant has shown repeatedly — even while in custody — that he will flagrantly and repeatedly flout rules in order to improperly impact the outcome of his case. The defendant has shown, in other words, that he cannot be trusted to abide by rules or conditions,” prosecutors wrote in a submission that contained redactions.

Top Israeli Court Rejects Netanyahu's Request To Delay Criminal Trial

The prime minister has been repeatedly accused of prolonging the Gaza war to avoid prosecution on charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust

The Jerusalem District Court rejected on 13 November a request made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to delay his testimony in his corruption trial by 10 weeks.

The court said the premier has already had five months to prepare for his testimony, which is scheduled for 2 December.

“We were not convinced that a substantial change in circumstances has occurred which would justify a change to the date we set in our [original] decision.” As a result, Netanyahu will be forced to take the stand.

Hours prior to the court ruling, a representative of the Israeli State Attorney’s Office, Yehudit Tirosh, said the “prime minister can’t dictate the schedule for his trial and testimony.”

...Netanyahu’s legal team filed the request for delay at the Jerusalem District Court earlier this week, arguing that certain security incidents occurred during the time in which the premier was supposed to prepare, making the testimony impossible.

After the start of the war in October last year, Netanyahu’s trial was put on hold before resuming in early December 2023.

The Israeli prime minister has been accused of and charged with fraud, bribery, and breach of trust in three separate cases filed in 2019. He faces a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years.

Many, including Israelis opposed to the premier and his policies, have accused Netanyahu of seeking to prolong the war in Gaza in order to avoid trial and potential imprisonment.

Short On Troops, Israel Turns To Mercenaries — 11/12

Protracted and unprecedented Arab resistance has depleted Israeli troop and reservist forces and forced Tel Aviv to seek out unconventional methods – including the recruitment of foreign mercenaries – to sustain Israel's weary military and escalatory war goals.

Facing increasing domestic pressure to reveal the true extent of their military losses in Gaza and Lebanon, Israeli officials have released figures that are likely to only reveal minimal numbers. The data claims that since the beginning of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on 7 October 2023, around 12,000 soldiers and officers have been injured or forced into rehabilitation under the occupation state’s Ministry of Defense.

This includes 910 wounded during what Israel calls a "limited ground maneuver" launched by Tel Aviv on the Lebanese border, in addition to the deaths of over 760 officers and soldiers and 140 left completely disabled. These admissions, although selective, have stirred growing skepticism within Israeli society, already at its most politically divided since the inception of the state in 1948.

The struggle to maintain power

Following the sacking of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, questions are mounting: how does Israel plan to sustain its fighting force amidst the Lebanese resistance's deadly daily attacks on them?

Opposition against compulsory military service from religious groups, particularly the Haredim, has compounded the army's challenges – so has the removal of Gallant, an army dropout rate soaring above 17 percent, a wave of reverse immigration that has reached one million people in a single year, the highest since 1948, and increasing reluctance among shell-shocked reservists to return to the horror of battlefields in Gaza and the Lebanese border.

❗️Israel Hayom cites anonymous, ‘high-level’ Israeli sources as saying that Trump’s team is working on plans to target and ‘topple’ the Iranian government. The sources claim “Israeli-American strategic cooperation would focus specifically on challenging Iran's current leadership structure.”

Yesterday, Israeli Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he should consider dismissing National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir from his position due to his “intervention into operational police matters and his politicization of police promotions.”

In response, Ben Gvir says he “told Prime Minister Netanyahu that the attorney general must leave her position. We are approaching the moment when I will have no choice but to issue Netanyahu an ultimatum. Either she or I, only one of us will be able to remain in office. She should have left her position and gone home a long time ago.”

❗️ According to Israel's Channel 12, reports show that one in five Israeli hotels have stopped operating since 7 October, 2023. So far, 90 hotels have closed down, with 20% of the remaining hotels being inactive. These figures also coincide with the depression of the Israeli tourism sector, with a decline of more than 85% in inbound tourism to Israel.

Report: Biden Allows Ukraine To Strike Russia With Long-Range US Missiles

Putin has made clear that US-supported long-range strikes in Russia would risk nuclear war

The New York Times reported on Sunday that President Biden had authorized Ukraine’s use of long-range US-provided missiles in strikes on Russian territory, an escalation Moscow has made clear risks nuclear w ar.

US officials told the paper that Ukraine can now use Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), which have a range of up to 190 miles, to strike Russian territory. The ATACMS are fired by US-made multiple rocket launch systems, including the HIMARS. Ukraine can only fire the HIMARS with coordinates provided by or confirmed by the US and its allies , meaning the US will now directly support strikes deep inside Russia.

The US officials said the ATACMS will likely initially be used to hit Russian troops fighting against Ukrainian forces in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. Ukraine and the US have also said North Korean troops are deployed in Kursk. The US has said the North Korean troops are engaged in combat, but that hasn’t been confirmed by Moscow .

Earlier this year, President Biden gave Ukraine the greenlight to strike Russian border regions with US-provided weapons, including shorter-range rockets fired by the HIMARS. A few months later, Ukraine launched its invasion of Kursk, and Ukrainian officials began pushing hard for the US to support longer-range strikes inside Russia.

In response to those calls and comments from Western officials supporting the idea, Russian President Vladimir Putin said if NATO supported long-range strikes in Russia , it would put the Western military alliance “at war with Russia.”

No Palestinians, no West Bank, no occupation: Pastor, former governor and incoming U.S. ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee has trenchant Bible-based ideas about Israel and Palestine. Here is a round-up of his more belligerent statements over the years

In announcing Mike Huckabee as his pick for U.S. ambassador to Israel, President-elect Donald Trump wrote that Huckabee "loves Israel, and the people of Israel, and likewise, the people of Israel love him. Mike will work tirelessly to bring about Peace in the Middle East."

Huckabee, a devout Evangelical Christian who was formerly Governor of Arkansas and ran twice for the Republican nomination for the U.S. presidency, says he's visited Israel and the West Bank "dozens and dozens of times," and describes his connection as "not so much political as it is visceral, personal."

As a staunch proponent of annexation, with close relations over decades with Israeli settlers and the Yesha Council, the umbrella organization of West Bank Jewish settlements, he has been explicit about what that "visceral" connection to Greater Israel means, as well as his skepticism about the national aspirations of what he habitually refers to as the "so-called Palestinians."

Huckabee, a frequent guest on a podcast produced by the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews organization called "Nourish Your Biblical Roots," called for using "biblical language" when speaking about Israel in an episode recorded in February.

"When people use the term 'occupy,'" Huckabee said, "I say, yeah, Israel is occupying the land, but it is an occupation of land that God gave them 3,500 years ago. It is their land." — Feb 2024

"In Genesis, when we're told that God will bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse Israel," he continued, "I'm simple-minded enough to say, 'There it is. What am I gonna do? I'm gonna believe that."

"This is a biblical mandate, and we need to stand on it from that perspective," Huckabee declared.

In 2019, Huckabee railed against Congressman Rashida Tlaib for a photo that was released of a world map in her office on which Israel had been covered up by a sticky note reading "Palestine."

"Disturbing. Antisemitic," then-Governor Huckabee tweeted. "'Palestinian' Rashida Tlaib (there has NEVER been a nation called Palestine) erases Israel from map in her office... Do Dems support this bigotry and hate?"

Huckabee has publicly repeated his refusal to recognize Palestine many times, dating at least back to 2008, and reiterated in 2015 and in April 2024. In a video from 2008 that has now resurfaced on social media, Huckabee can be seen talking to two Orthodox Jews during a campaign stop in Massachusetts.
"Basically, there really is no such thing as – I need to be careful about saying this, because people will really get upset – there's really no such thing as a Palestinian," he told them.
