Israel is drawing up plans to expand its ground offensive in southern Lebanon, the country’s top general said, as its warplanes intensified their air campaign against targets in the country.

Herzi Halevi, chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces, said on Wednesday that Israel was “formulating . . . plans for the continuation of the fighting in Lebanon, including the expansion and deepening of the [ground] manoeuvre”. This would come alongside diplomatic efforts to end the war between Israel and the Lebanon-based Hizbollah militant group, he said.

Israel Signs $5.2 Billion Contract With Boeing To Purchase F-15s With US Aid

Israel will receive 25 F-15 fighter jets with delivery starting in 2031

Israel’s Defense Ministry said Thursday that it signed a $5.2 billion contract with Boeing to purchase 25 F-15 fighter jets using US military aid amid global calls for an arms embargo on Israel over the slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza.

The contract is part of an arms sale the Biden administration approved for Israel back in August that’s worth $18.8 billion . The deal gives Israel the option for another 25 F-15 fighter jets and includes upgrades for its existing fleet of F-15s and other related equipment.

Under the contract for the first batch of 25 jets, Israel will start taking deliveries of Boeing’s new F-15IA in 2031, and it’s expected to receive four to six of the aircraft annually.

Earlier this year, Israel signed a $3 billion contract to acquire 25 Lockheed Martin-made F-35 jets, which was also financed by US military aid.

Brown University’s Costs of War project said in a report last month that US support for Israel over the past year had cost US taxpayers at least $22.76. The total includes $17.9 billion in direct military aid and $4.8 billion in spending on US military operations in support of Israel, including the bombing campaign against the Houthis in Yemen.

Haaretz: With Trump in and Gallant Out, Netanyahu Is Left With Few Constraints

Trump's record on Israel is more mixed than people tend to recall. This means praise and flattery are somewhat premature. Trump will put his own interests first, and they won't necessarily always be aligned with the expectations of Netanyahu's coalition

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu estimated, hoped and believed that this would be the outcome – a sweeping victory for Donald Trump in the U.S. presidential election. The consequences are likely to be complex, even partly contradictory. Trump has always been a riddle wrapped in an enigma: capricious, self-driven and unpredictable. His second administration will probably be a more extreme version of his first term as president. Unlike eight years ago, this time, there are no checks and balances – and almost without being surrounded by retired generals with a vain belief in their ability to control him.

There's no point in betting on the foreign policy of the next president. It's too soon. Many of those close to him, such as former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, are supporters of Israel and fans of Netanyahu in particular. But during Trump's first term, there was a mix of contradictory foundations in the administration's foreign policy.

He signaled a message of isolationism, sharp reservations about American investment in defending allies and an unwillingness to get involved in more unnecessary wars. On the other hand, Trump bought Netanyahu's arguments and withdrew from the nuclear agreement with Iran in a way that brought the regime in Tehran to its closest point toward creating a bomb ever.

...Trump has often publicly expressed solidarity with Israel over the years and, for the most part, personal empathy for Netanyahu.

...Another obstacle that was removed from Netanyahu's path on Tuesday is Gallant. His previous dismissal in March was Netanyahu's response to the defense minister's warnings about the damage being caused by the judicial overhaul to the operational fitness of the military. The prime minister was forced to change his mind when confronted by a massive public protest. That's not the case this time. Although there were large demonstrations again, it's clear that there's not enough wind in the sails of the protest movement...

There is no risk that Yisrael Katz, in his role as Gallant's replacement, will disrupt Netanyahu's far-reaching plans. Katz won't lend support to Chief of Staff Lt. Herzi Halevi, senior Israel Defense Force officers or the head of the Shin Bet security service, Ronen Bar when Netanyahu continues in his efforts to devolve full responsibility for the failure to prevent the October 7 massacre on them.

A United Nations (UN) committee has adopted two resolutions, one of them aimed at the World Organization’s Department of Global Communications establishing and strengthening “partnerships with new and traditional media to address hate speech narratives.”

Saudi Arabian Desert Receives Snowfall For The First Time

The unforeseen weather events have drawn the attention of meteorologists even as heavy rain and thunderstorm warnings have been issued by the authorities.

For the first time in recorded history, the Al-Jawf region of Saudi Arabia witnessed snowfall. In almost a mythical display of events, the desert saw snowfall, followed by torrential rainfall and hail, and waterfalls appearing in the region.

Much to their surprise, Al-Jawf residents woke up to their desert land looking like a winter wonderland with a white pall of snow covering the landscape around them.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the snowfall was the result of the development of a weather pattern that brought along heavy rains, revitalising the arid valleys.

The unforeseen weather events have drawn the attention of meteorologists even as heavy rain and thunderstorm warnings have been issued by the authorities. The UAE's National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has said that a low-pressure system has formed over the Arabian Sea and extended to Oman. This has carried with it moist air, leading to the drastic change in weather conditions.

New York Times columnist Tom Friedman tells Israeli army radio that one must remember that Miriam Adelson gave millions of dollars to Donald Trump's campaign, so there should be no expectation that Trump will promote a two-state solution:
